The Eldest Daughter Returns with Power

Chapter 20 The Mystery of My Origins 2

Upon hearing the Crown Prince's words, Yuwen Mo's heart skipped a beat, as if gripped tightly by an invisible hand, making it almost impossible for him to breathe. He instinctively straightened up, a hint of wariness and doubt flashing in his eyes, secretly wondering: Could it be that the Crown Prince has discovered some important clue? He couldn't help but doubt his previous judgment.

Yuwen Mo took a deep breath, trying to keep his voice calm: "Your Highness, please wait a moment, I will go and call my junior sister over." After saying that, he turned and left the study, his steps appearing somewhat hurried.

Yuwen Mo strode quickly towards his junior sister Su Yunruo's residence, each step carrying a sense of urgency. He was thinking about how to tell Su Yunruo the news, while also considering what might happen next. When he finally reached Su Yunruo's door, he gently knocked, his tone somewhat anxious: "Junior sister, open the door quickly, I have something important to tell you."

The door slowly opened, revealing Su Yunruo's delicate yet slightly pale face. Yuwen Mo said impatiently, "Junior Sister, His Highness the Crown Prince wants to see us. It may be related to your background. Let's hurry to the study." Su Yunruo's expression changed slightly, as if struck by lightning. A complex emotion instantly welled up in her originally clear eyes.

She pursed her lips, gave Yuwen Mo a deep look, and then nodded to indicate that she understood. She seemed to have anticipated this moment, but she hadn't expected it to come so soon. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself, and said softly, "Okay, let's go then."

Looking at Su Yunruo, Yuwen Mo felt a pang of guilt. He knew that for Su Yunruo, her origins had always been a mystery, a heavy burden. And now, they might be about to unravel this mystery and confront the truth hidden deep within. He gently patted Su Yunruo's shoulder, encouraging her, "Don't be afraid, everything will be alright."

The two entered the study together. The Crown Prince was sitting at his desk, looking serious. Upon seeing them enter, the Crown Prince stood up, his gaze falling on Su Yunruo. He said in a solemn tone, "Brother Yuwen, Miss Su, I have recently discovered some old stories about the Grand Princess's residence. These stories may be related to Miss Su's background."

Yuwen Mo and Su Yunruo exchanged a glance, both seeing the anticipation and nervousness in each other's eyes, like two burning flames. They knew that this conversation might change their fate.

The Crown Prince paused for a moment before continuing, "According to my investigation, the First Princess did indeed have another child back then, but due to some special circumstances, there's no trace of this child's existence. Only a very few elders in the Princess's household know about it." Hearing this, Su Yunruo felt a ripple in her heart, as if a pebble had been thrown into a calm lake. She gripped Yuwen Mo's hand tightly, as if seeking comfort and strength. Yuwen Mo sensed her tension and gently patted the back of her hand, offering support and encouragement.

The Crown Prince looked at Su Yunruo with concern in his eyes and said gently, "Miss Su, I know this may be a bit sudden for you, but please believe me, I will do my best to help you uncover the truth." Su Yunruo nodded slightly, looking at the Crown Prince with gratitude, her eyes shining with determination. She knew she had to bravely face reality and find her own answer.

Yuwen Mo looked at Su Yunruo, his heart filled with worry and heartache for her. He held her hand tightly and said softly, "No matter what happens, Master and I will always be by your side, protecting you." Su Yunruo smiled slightly, her eyes filled with warmth and emotion. She knew she was not alone; her Master and fellow disciples were always by her side, giving her endless courage and strength.

Seeing that both of them were ready, the Crown Prince took a deep breath and slowly said, "Miss Su, I have found some clues about the past of the First Princess's residence. Back then, the First Princess's residence experienced a great upheaval, and you were a victim of this upheaval, that is, another child of the First Princess." Su Yunruo's eyes widened, and she asked incredulously, "Me? Am I really the First Princess's daughter?" The Crown Prince was silent for a moment, then continued, "The specific reasons are still unclear, but what is certain is that you have royal blood flowing through your veins; you are my cousin. I intend to inform Father about this matter. Yunruo, what are your thoughts? Would you like to come to the palace to see Father?"

"After the eldest princess passed away, Father Emperor was heartbroken for a long time. She was his own sister, and he always loved her dearly." The Crown Prince looked at Su Yunruo.

Su Yunruo bit her lip, her teeth gently biting her lower lip, a hint of hesitation flashing in her eyes, as if she were struggling in the abyss of her heart. She lowered her head and pondered for a moment, seemingly trying to find clues to the answer, then raised her head and said with a firm gaze, "I want to see the Emperor." Her voice carried a resolute quality, as if she had already made an important decision.

Yuwen Mo and the Crown Prince exchanged a glance, a hint of surprise flashing in their eyes. They hadn't expected Su Yunruo to make such a decisive request. Yuwen Mo asked softly, "Junior Sister, are you sure? This is no small matter." His tone carried a trace of worry, concerned about whether Su Yunruo was truly prepared to face anything.

Su Yunruo nodded, her eyes firm and bright, like a star shining in the night sky, radiating a persistent light. "Yes, Senior Brother. I need to find out exactly what happened back then. And if I really am the eldest princess's daughter, then I should also take responsibility for myself." Her words revealed a firm determination that moved everyone present.

The Crown Prince smiled slightly, his smile revealing his appreciation and support for Su Yunruo. "Alright, since you've made your decision, I'll arrange for you to meet as soon as possible." His voice was gentle yet firm, giving off a sense of reliability.

A few days later, accompanied by Yuwen Mo, Su Yunruo stepped into the palace gates. Her heart was like a vast, turbulent sea, filled with trepidation and unease. She walked cautiously, each step showing extreme care. In her previous life, after returning to the General's Mansion, she had only visited the palace twice, for banquets. At that time, due to the suppression from her mother and cousin, she had always been timid and submissive.

After passing through the long Yongxiang alley and then the Imperial Garden, the Crown Prince led her to the Emperor's study. Su Yunruo took a deep breath, straightened her clothes, and stood outside the hall, awaiting her summons. Her heart was pounding so hard it felt like it was about to leap out of her throat.

In the imperial study, the emperor sat on his dragon throne, his expression solemn and dignified, like a towering mountain that inspired awe and reverence. Eunuch Li reported, "Your Majesty, the Crown Prince is waiting outside the hall with Miss Su." The emperor glanced up and said to Eunuch Li, "Have the Crown Prince take her to the side hall. I'll be there after I've dealt with these matters."

Eunuch Li turned and withdrew, walking out of the hall. After exiting the hall, he bowed to the Crown Prince and said, "Your Highness, the Emperor has instructed you to take Miss Su to the side hall to wait. Please take the girl to the side hall first, and this old servant will arrange for tea and refreshments to be served."

“Alright, Eunuch Li, let’s go to the side hall first.” After saying that, the Crown Prince turned around and led Su Yunruo towards the side hall. After entering the side hall, the Crown Prince asked Su Yunruo to sit down and wait. As soon as the two sat down, a maidservant brought in tea and snacks. The Crown Prince said to Su Yunruo, “Don’t be too nervous. Have a cup of tea and try some snacks from the imperial kitchen.”

"Your Highness, I..."

"Yun Ruo, you still call me Your Highness? You should call me Brother Crown Prince."

“Your Highness, my origins have not yet been confirmed. If I address you as ‘Brother Crown Prince’ now, people will say I am overstepping my bounds.”

"Who dares to say that I gave you permission to call them that? Let them..."

"The Emperor has arrived!" came Eunuch Li's voice from outside.

The door was pushed open, and a middle-aged man in his fifties, dressed in a bright yellow dragon robe, appeared before her. Su Yunruo stood up from her chair and knelt down to pay her respects to the Emperor. "This commoner, Su Yunruo, greets Your Majesty. Long live the Emperor!" Su Yunruo knelt on the ground, not daring to raise her head, her heart pounding with anxiety, as if a deer were running wildly inside her.
