Genshin Impact: Demon God of Shura
Chapter 189 The Importance of Logistics Support
"Everyone! Clean up the battlefield! Hurry, hurry, hurry!"
Let's go back to half an hour before the tsunami hit the seawall.
At the Tianheng Mountain defense line, after confirming repeatedly that the enemy's attack had been repelled, Luo Xue, somewhat exhausted, stood up, put down her heavy shield, and, slightly out of breath, gave the order.
After three hours of non-stop fighting, the slope in front of Tianheng Mountain, less than 20 meters wide, was piled with countless corpses of monsters and cavalrymen.
Despite the fact that there wasn't much blood left on the ground due to the heavy rain, the fact that most of the water at the foot of the mountain was stained red with blood made it easy to guess how fierce the battle was!
With the slope almost entirely covered by the corpses of monsters and humans, the exhausted Spartans had no choice but to push some of the monster corpses off the left cliff.
"Mi Lai?"
Luo Xue spent some time retrieving the spear she had thrown from a demon, looked up at the still overcast sky, picked up the token at her waist, and called out to Mi Lai.
"The enemy has not made any unusual moves so you can safely clean up the battlefield."
Miley's calm voice rang out.
"Understood. Have the logistics team soldiers arrived?"
As Luo Xue spoke, she kicked the remains of a demon, which consisted only of its lower body, off the cliff.
"According to the report from the secret guards, they will arrive in about half an hour."
Mi Lai spoke briefly with one of her bodyguards before replying.
"Alright, it's time to let the soldiers who fought in the battle get a good rest and reward them."
Luo Xue turned her head to look at the Spartans behind her, who looked slightly tired, and then looked at the large camp made up of tents on the beach in the distance.
Even though they were separated by a rain curtain several hundred meters apart, Luo Xue still keenly sensed that the atmosphere in the distant camp was very tense.
Is it due to logistical problems?
This is the most plausible reason Luo Xue can think of for the other party's current situation: logistical issues.
After all, no matter how powerful an army is, it cannot escape the problem of logistics. If logistics are not guaranteed, an army that is not well-fed and well-clothed will have its combat effectiveness greatly reduced, its morale will be low, and it may even cause internal strife.
"Luo Xue, are you alright?"
The voice of Mi Lai, coming from the token in her hand, interrupted Luo Xue's thoughts.
"Yes, I'm fine. What's wrong?"
Luo Xuenuo's pretty face beneath her mask showed a look of confusion.
"Nothing, it's just that I noticed you've been staring in the direction of the enemy's headquarters without saying anything. Did you sense something?"
Miley's voice carried a hint of concern.
"I wouldn't say I noticed, but I did discover something."
Luo Xue raised her hand and removed the Nuo mask, the bloodstains of which had been washed away by the torrential rain, and asked:
"Milai, do you remember that large cargo ship that the enemy had before the war was capsized by the waves?"
"I remember that many of the supply boxes being transported were thrown off and broken, at least 60% of them were damaged, and we couldn't see what was inside."
Mi Lai recalled her findings and truthfully reported them to Luo Xue, then became puzzled again:
Why did you suddenly think of this?
Upon hearing this, Luo Xue's lips curled into a smug smile, and she said:
"Milai, do you think it's possible that the cargo ship that was capsized by the waves was actually a supply ship fully loaded with logistical supplies?"
Upon hearing this, Mi Lai was first taken aback, then exclaimed with surprise and delight:
"According to what you're saying, Luo Xue, doesn't that mean our opponents are currently facing a critical shortage of supplies? Hahaha!"
Mi Lai couldn't help but burst out laughing, her laughter filled with schadenfreude.
"This is truly a stroke of luck! Fighting away from home already places high demands on logistics, and now we're in the awkward situation of logistics not being able to keep up. I reckon they'll start fighting amongst themselves even before our Returning Machines fire on them, haha!"
The thought of the other party's current predicament of running out of logistical supplies kept Mi Lai smiling non-stop.
"Hehe, as the saying goes, 'An army marches on its stomach,' it seems things should be quiet for the next few days."
Luo Xue chuckled a few times, casually brushed a strand of rain-soaked bangs from her forehead, turned around with a smile, and joined the soldiers in cleaning up the battlefield.
"Sister Luo Xue, won't you rest a little longer?"
Seeing that Luo Xue only paused for a moment before joining the cleanup, Mi Lai couldn't help but ask with concern.
"Compared to the two Spartan Legion trials I underwent recently, this level of combat is not enough to exhaust me."
Luo Xue shook her head, her smile fading. She looked up at the summit of Tianheng Mountain and winked at the patch of grass where Mi Lai was, saying:
"You're the one who should rest more than me, aren't you? After all, since the eve of the battle, you've been crawling in the grass in the rain, constantly providing intelligence support."
War is far more than just the hard work of frontline combat departments or logistics departments; the intelligence departments behind the entire combat system are just as demanding.
After all, apart from strong logistical support, without real-time intelligence support from the enemy, how can the soldiers on the front line make targeted adjustments to their combat deployment to defend against the enemy?
"Hmm... I understand. I'll go rest right away. You too, don't overwork yourself, Sister Luo Xue."
Knowing that Luo Xue was worried about her health, Mi Lai felt a warmth in her heart.
After severing her connection with Luo Xue, Milai, supported by two knights, staggered to her feet from the human-shaped puddle formed by her prolonged crawling.
"General Milei, are you alright?"
The female knight commander who was supporting her saw that Miley's legs were trembling and couldn't help but speak up with concern.
"I'm fine. It's just that my legs are numb due to insufficient blood supply from lying in a prone position for a long time without moving."
Despite the discomfort in her legs, Mi Lai shook her head and said.
"Let's not talk about that now. You two help me back to the tunnel to rest. We can't let our deputy hall master worry about me."
"My subordinate understands."
The female knight commander responded and nodded to the knight commander who was supporting Milai's other arm:
"One, two, three, let's go!"
The two men, one on each side, simultaneously lifted Milai's thighs, raising her into a seated position.
"Huh? Huh! What are you all doing here...?"
Mi Lai gasped in surprise, her hands instinctively resting on the two men's outer shoulders as she asked in confusion.
"This will make you feel better, General Milei."
This time, it was a young male voice that spoke, belonging to another knight commander beside Milai.
"Thank you..."
Miley patted the two of them on the shoulder with some gratitude.
The two knights simply smiled and cooperated in carrying Milai toward the cave.
Meanwhile, at the foot of Tianheng Mountain.
"Knight Commander, report on the cleanup of the battlefield."
Luo Xue stretched her slightly sore arms and beckoned to a nearby knight commander to ask him a question.
"Reporting to General Luo Xue, in this battle, we annihilated 4,867 enemy light cavalrymen and 4,943 mounted demons. 133 cavalrymen were more or less injured and had to leave the battlefield, of whom 57 were still riding their mounts."
After a pause, the knight commander looked up at Luo Xue, who seemed to be deep in thought.
"A probe with 5,000 light cavalry? It seems their next offensive will be even more intense... What about the casualties of the soldiers?"
Luo Xue muttered a few words to herself and pressed for an answer.
"Report! Of our thousand Spartan guards who participated in the battle, five are seriously wounded, dozens are slightly wounded to varying degrees, and no one has been killed in action."
The knight commander reported in a measured and formal manner.
"Five people seriously injured? Tell me in detail how they were seriously injured?"
Upon hearing this, Luo Xue raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms.
"Reporting to the General, three of them were hit in the arm by the fierce impact of the enemy cavalry charge while resisting the charge, resulting in dislocated shoulders or broken arms; one was scratched in the chest by an enemy monster, and the long wound caused blood loss anemia; and another took a head-on cavalry charge to cover his comrades returning to the formation, breaking several ribs."
The knight commander explained in detail.
After listening, Luo Xue nodded and sighed softly:
"Once the logistics and medical teams arrive, prioritize the treatment of the seriously wounded and ensure their speedy recovery. Don't neglect the lightly wounded either; arrange their rest and treatment properly."
"Yes, General!"
The knight commander bowed and left to receive his orders.
Luo Xue looked up at the sky. The rain gradually subsided as dusk fell, but the sky was still covered with dark clouds.
Luo Xue knew that the enemy would not give up because of the failure of this probing attack and the lack of logistical support; the battles to come would only be more difficult.
"General Luo Xue!"
A Spartan came running.
"Don't panic, what has happened, soldiers?"
Luo Xue reached out and helped the Spartan up, offering a few words of patient comfort.
"The secret service has just received news that a new enemy force is assembling, with equipment and size far exceeding any enemy we have encountered before!"
Upon hearing this, Luo Xue frowned, realizing that she was about to face the regular army of the Ocean Alliance.
"They arrived quickly... It seems logistical issues forced them to put the operation plan on the agenda... When will they arrive at Tianheng Mountain?"
"According to information overheard by the secret guards, due to two consecutive defeats, most of the people in the camp are demoralized, so they have decided to rest and recuperate for two days before attacking Tianheng Mountain!"
The Spartan reported the facts truthfully.
"It seems a new and fierce battle is about to begin... Notify everyone, except for the thousand Asura archers, all Spartan guards, prepare for battle. A more formidable enemy awaits us!"
"Yes! I understand!"
