The Beast King's Little Wife

Chapter 012: Improvement

Just as Lin Dujuan was lost in thought, Tiger Mom came in at some point and suddenly said these words while staring at her.

"I think you should improve yourself, otherwise it will be troublesome to keep encountering such things."

"Ah, self-improvement?" Lin Dujuan asked, puzzled.

"That's right, it's about improving yourself. In our village, many females learn defensive techniques to avoid being harassed by males from other villages. For example, I learned how to take advantage of a man's momentary lapse in concentration to make my move."

As she spoke, Tiger Mom waved her hand triumphantly and gave her a flirtatious wink. This sudden change immediately made Lin Dujuan realize that Tiger Mom was definitely using her looks to seduce her opponent before striking ruthlessly when she was off guard.

"I understand, I will study hard from now on."

"Alright, have you come up with any results from your research over there? Let's go take a look."

Lin Dujuan's research is nothing more than matters related to planting.

I first visited several elderly people who had farmed in the village and learned about their experiences of failure in farming from them.

Then find those few things that are supposedly edible.

"Hey, isn't this millet? And this, if I remember correctly, this should be foxtail millet. Foxtail millet is a tree, so the villagers can find mature trees, dig them up, and plant them. Then the whole mountain will be full of foxtail millet trees, which can fill our stomachs."

Lin Dujuan was quite pleased to discover such good things as millet and sorghum. However, what troubled her was that besides these two staple foods, there were no other vegetables.

After learning how she could grow millet, the woman who had some millet at home gave her a leather sack full of it. She had collected it last year to eat as a hobby, but said she was tired of it and wanted to throw it away, but it seemed a waste. So, seeing that Lin Dujuan liked it, she simply gave it to her.

Lin Dujuan was very grateful for this, as she wasn't used to eating meat every day. She was tired of it after eating meat for the past few days. The millet was a welcome change. However, millet alone wasn't enough; it needed something else to make it taste good.

"Wild vegetables? We rarely eat vegetables. Occasionally, we'll pick some herbs to cook and eat." Tiger Mom said this with certainty, then looked at Lin Dujuan with pity, as if she were pitying her for being so poor that she had to eat wild vegetables!

Lin Dujuan thought it was terrifying; the people in this village only ate wild fruits and meat.

When it came time to cook the millet porridge, Lin Dujuan was dismayed to discover that there wasn't even a pot or stove for cooking soup.

Therefore, the stove had to be built by themselves.

"Why are you still playing in the mud at your age!"

Tiger Mom, Tiger Sister, and Tiger Cub sat in a row, watching her curiously as she played with mud and stones.

Lin Dujuan paused, feeling frustrated. There was no stove, and these guys couldn't help at all; in fact, it would have been more work for them. Therefore, she had to do all the building work on the stove by herself.

“I’m not playing with mud, I’m building a stove. Once this is up and running, we can find a place to put things and cook. Then we can stew some things that smell really delicious.”

"You need to cook something? I understand. It's like a witch doctor brewing medicine. You need a stone pot. I'll go find the stonemason in the village and get one."

To get new tools, you need to trade some of the meat from the animals in your household.

After saying this, Tiger Mom excitedly took the meat from her house to the village to exchange for stone jars.

When Lin Dujuan's stove was finished, the jar was also replaced.

Lin Dujuan examined it and discovered that the jar was definitely made of that kind of hard stone.

In other words, it can withstand ordinary fire.

Moreover, the inside is as smooth as a mirror, so even if it's a stone pot, there will be absolutely no sand or mud mixed into the food when cooking.

"Alright, I'll cook you a corn and vegetable porridge today."

Originally, Lin Dujuan didn't want to add meat, but considering that these animals all love meat, she added a small piece of meat for this first time making porridge.

The meat was chopped into small pieces with a stone knife. When the porridge started to smell fragrant, the meat was added first. When it was ready to serve, the edible wild vegetables and salt were sprinkled in.

"Alright, we can start now."

While she clapped her hands happily, Tiger Cub and Tiger Sister had already obediently gathered to the side, drooling.

Seeing his greedy expression made Lin Dujuan very happy.

However, an awkward thing happened when it was time to eat.

There were only two wooden bowls, and chopsticks... were not available.

"Use this to eat it."

Lin Dujuan quickly used a stone knife to chop a few small tree branches, then peeled off the bark and polished them smooth, making four pairs of chopsticks.

First, serve the two younger ones, and Tiger Cub eagerly takes the bowl and pours it out.

"You have to use chopsticks, or you won't get any food."

Seeing that he was about to use his claws, Lin Dujuan quickly corrected him.

The little tiger boy tilted his head and glanced at her, but in the end, he tentatively used chopsticks.

At this moment, Tiger Cub is sitting there upright, holding a bowl in one paw and holding two long chopsticks in the other.

He took a bite, his eyes lit up, and without thinking, he threw down his chopsticks and poured the contents into his mouth.

He drank it, but it was scalding hot. He hissed and grimaced for a while, then looked at me longingly and leaned closer, saying, "I want more..."

"Wow, my Tiger Cub can talk now. It seems that when there's something delicious to eat, kids start talking faster."

Tiger Mom looked at her youngest son with great joy and pride. She hadn't expected her little tiger cub to start talking so quickly.

Tiger Cub seemed surprised that he could speak.

After a moment of surprise, she tilted her head and looked at Lin Dujuan shyly, "Eat...eat..."

Lin Dujuan reached out and patted Huwa's head. "Hmm, eat. I cooked a big pot. But you can't eat it all by yourself. Mom hasn't eaten yet, and neither have I. Good things should be shared, okay?"

After hearing this, Tiger Cub looked at Tiger Mom with his big, watery eyes, then at Lin Dujuan, and finally nodded his head shyly.

"Good boy, Tiger Cub did a good job. Although the food is delicious, a family should share happiness and hardship together. Now, get a bowl for Tiger Mom."

Tiger Mom sat there somewhat dazed until Tiger Cub handed her a bowl of porridge. She took it and then looked at Lin Dujuan with gratitude.

Although she loved the children, she never taught them proper manners.

Lin Dujuan, in her daily life, teaches her children manners and etiquette. She's very satisfied with this daughter-in-law!

Tiger Mom and the other kids loved their first meal of millet porridge. For the next few days, Tiger Cub and Tiger Sister gave up their usual favorite meat.

They switched to eating various kinds of millet porridge and similar foods.

On the fifth day, while strolling around with Tiger Mom and the others, Lin Dujuan unexpectedly discovered some delightful surprises: yams and a type of wild, edible thorny fruit.

Just as she finished digging and harvesting these things, a piercing horn suddenly sounded in the village...
