Chapter 71 Ruthless Attack

Zhoujia Village is not large, with only about ten households and a total population of less than one hundred.

Compared to the three thousand soldiers, these numbers made the army seem like a behemoth.

Lieutenant Li roughly observed the situation inside and concluded that it wasn't too serious. He ordered the main force to remain in place, while he led a few people and Wutong and the others inside.

"Wutong..."

"You're back……"

"It's been a long time, Wutong..."

Many villagers greeted her, their smiles not exactly warm, but none of them mentioned anything about gender.

It seems Ruolan really managed to win them over. Wutong doesn't know how she did it, and it's not important right now.

She breathed a sigh of relief, her heart slowly calming down, but when she saw a certain face, her anxiety suddenly rose even higher.

"Wutong, do you still remember your great-aunt?"

The woman had a smile on her rough face. Her skin was brown and as rough as iron. When she smiled, her teeth were uneven and yellow.

There was something else on it that Wutong had never seen before—a scar.

The scar ran from her right eyebrow to the left corner of her mouth, almost completely disfiguring her already unattractive face.

"I remember, how could I not remember? She almost wanted to kill her back then, but she just didn't have the courage to do it, so she burned down their granary instead," Flash Dance said.

Wutong still harbored hatred for her, but when she saw the injury on her face, she couldn't help but gasp.

Zhou Shan happened to be nearby, so she bent down and asked in a low voice, "What happened to your mother's face?"

Zhou Shan glanced at his mother fearfully: "She went to ask the landlord for grain and was slashed by Zhou Pan'an with a knife."

Wutong immediately understood.

When she left, she burned down her aunt's granary. They must have guessed it was her, so they went to settle accounts with Ruolan.

Ruolan has already married Zhou Pan'an, making her a member of the Zhou family. Although Zhou Pan'an is well-educated, he is not a refined person, so it's not surprising that he resorts to violence.

What was surprising was how ruthless he was.

Despite her shock, Wutong had no interest in talking to her aunt. She nodded indifferently and walked towards the tent.

Hearing the noise outside, the maid lifted the curtain of the sheepskin tent, and Ruolan stepped out gracefully, smiling slightly at her: "You've come."

Wutong felt reassured and immediately stepped forward to introduce Li Duwei, Zhao Sanyang, and others to her.

Ruolan was a very sensible person, and immediately invited Li Duwei and the others into the tent for tea.

Li Duwei knew that her relationship with Wutong was special, so he did not refuse and followed her inside.

Everyone sat around the table chatting. During this time, Ruolan's mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Zhou, and Zhou Pan'an came in. It was unclear whether they were just passing by or came on purpose.

Mr. and Mrs. Zhou were honest country folk with some savings. They both respected and feared the soldiers, so they gave them a polite greeting and left.

Only Zhou Pan'an chatted with everyone with a smile for a few minutes, but his eyes kept glancing at Wu Tong with a sinister look.

Wutong didn't like him and wouldn't stay there for long, so she simply ignored him.

Towards the end of the conversation, Ruolan asked, "What are your plans next? Will you continue on your journey?"

Lieutenant Li nodded, the purple clay teacup appearing exquisite in his large, rough hands: "We don't know when the flood will subside. We must head north to rescue the villages and towns along the way, and then meet with the Prince."

Ruolan said regretfully, "Really? I wanted to stay a little longer. Wutong and I haven't seen each other for so long. It's a miracle we survived the flood. I'm really worried that we'll never have the chance to meet again."

Li Duwei took a sip of water, put down his cup, and said, "Actually, it's not entirely impossible to keep the parasol tree."

Ruolan asked with interest, "Really? What method?"

Lieutenant Li said, "The disaster situation is temporarily under control, but we don't know when it will be completely resolved. We won't be returning to Yuemen Pass anytime soon. Wutong can stay here until we receive our orders to return to the pass, and then we'll set off together."

Ruolan smiled happily, her face fair and rosy, as delicate as a peach petal: "This is very good, Wutong, what do you think?"

When Wutong saw her, his longing for her intensified, and he really wanted to stay a couple more days to have a private chat with her.

The two women came from the modern world at the same time, and to this world, they are outsiders.

She pursed her lips and nodded. Ruolan smiled, grabbed her hand, and then let go.

"Lieutenant Li, please don't leave later. We still have some wine at home that's not very presentable. Why don't you stay for a simple meal?"

Ruolan ordered her maid to start a fire and cook, so everyone stayed and ate some.

Throughout the meal, Nanxing kept his head down and remained silent, listlessly picking at the rice in his bowl without eating.

Wutong thought he was not feeling well, so she hooked her right arm around his neck and reached out with the back of her left hand to check his temperature.

Unexpectedly, Nanxing turned around and grabbed her wrist, staring intently into her eyes: "I have something to tell you."

Wutong then made an excuse to leave with him. The two avoided the villagers and stood under a big tree.

"what's up?"

Wutong looked down at the other person and felt that he seemed to have grown taller and his facial features had changed, but she couldn't quite put her finger on what the changes were.

When I rescued him, I just felt sorry for this beggar and wanted to hug him.

Now he has a more gloomy air about him, with thick eyebrows and eyes, like a schemer harboring secrets.

"You and she aren't biological sisters, right?" Nanxing asked.

Wutong's heart sank: "Why would you ask that?"

“It doesn’t look like it,” he said truthfully.

Wutong never treated him like an outsider. She reached out and touched his hair, a faint smile on her lips: "We're not blood sisters, but we're closer than blood sisters."

They were each other's only support and held each other's biggest secret.

No matter what happened here, only Ruolan remembered that she was once such a sycamore tree.

Nanxing's face grew even uglier after receiving the answer, and he grabbed her hem hard: "Then what am I to you?"

Faced with his stern questioning, Wutong was first taken aback, then laughed even more blatantly.

That bastard got jealous because he saw her getting along well with Ruolan.

“She’s my sister, so of course you’re my brother,” she laughed.

Nan Xing's expression softened slightly, but not by much; his two sword-like eyebrows furrowed in a troubled look: "I don't believe it."

Wutong withdrew her hand, crossed her arms leisurely, and raised her chin at him: "Then tell me, what exactly are you to me?"

who?

He was, of course, her everything! Her one and only!

Nanxing had a thousand possessive words he wanted to say, but he knew that if he said them, Wutong would either think he was crazy or leave him.

She's usually all smiles, but if someone crosses her line, she's fearless.

How can I make her my own?
