Chapter 5: Flattered

Their performance yesterday was remarkable, and the city guards admired her greatly. Every now and then, someone would rush up to her, telling her to take a break and take over the work.

Wutong declined again and again, but in the end she could only give an order that no one was allowed to take her job, or else they would be dragged out and beaten.

Now that no one was trying to steal the bucket anymore, she carried the empty bucket back to the well with Nanxing. When she turned around, she found him watching her with a hint of admiration in his eyes.

The strange feeling was as if he had raised a sheep, and everyone was praising how fat and fluffy it was.

Wutong touched her face: "What are you looking at?"

Nanxing didn't answer, but lowered her head to fetch water, her smile undiminished.

The two swept along the street until they reached the end, right in front of the city gate.

From afar, Wutong saw something hanging at the city gate, swaying in the wind.

She asked Nanxing in confusion, "What is that?"

Nanxing looked up, then lowered his head and continued splashing water, saying calmly, "Captain Wu."

Commandant Wu? Big-headed Wu!

Wutong was shocked: "What? How did he end up hanging on the city wall?"

Nanxing said, "The general found out about his desertion yesterday. He ordered his men to hang him on the city wall as a warning, and he will be executed in two days."

Wutong was even more surprised: "Does this mean he'll be executed?"

Nanxing said coldly, "For this kind of person, it would be too lenient not to exterminate his entire family."

Wutong was still in a daze for a long time.

She knew that ancient punishments were severe, but she was not prepared to witness them with her own eyes.

Abuduo always gave her the impression of being a general who was unconventional and treated his subordinates like brothers, while Wu Datou had always been his right-hand man.

Is someone like that someone you can just kill without warning?

She rubbed her arms, her hands covered in goosebumps, and thought to herself that she couldn't be willful and reckless in the future, otherwise she might break some rule and be dragged out and chopped up.

After a long day at work, Abdo came to knock on the door early the next day, beaming with joy, as if he had some good news.

"Wutong, come out."

Wutong rolled out of bed, put on a coat, and went to open the door.

Abdo shoved what he was holding forward: "Look, I brought you a good treasure."

Wutong looked down and saw that the thing was long and curved, brownish-red all over, with a taut string on it; it was actually a bow.

Moreover, judging from its texture, it is a well-preserved bow of top quality.

She held it happily in her hands: "Is this for me?"

Abdo said, "That's right. Yesterday, I led a group of Dongqi cavalrymen out on patrol. They tried to test us again, but I beat them so badly that they ran away and left behind this bow."

Wutong touched the bow again and again, feeling a little uneasy: "Is it not appropriate to give it to me? Why don't you keep it for yourself?"

Abudo was so kind to her that she was truly flattered.

The other person waved his hand impatiently: "What are you babbling about? What's yours is yours. Hurry up and get dressed. Come out and I'll teach you how to use a bow."

Wutong looked at him gratefully and nodded.

Fifteen minutes later, they returned to the courtyard where they had practiced their swordsmanship the day before, but this time there was one more person present—Nanxing.

He wasn't even fully awake, but insisted on coming along. He was leaning against the wall, yawning and looking at the two of them with a blank expression.

Abudo grabbed a table as a target, with the tabletop facing them, and then taught Wutong how to use a bow, hand in hand.

This bow also came with a quiver containing about twenty arrows, all made of fine materials such as yew wood and ox horn.

It was the first time Wutong had ever touched something like this, and she was very nervous.

That day, Abdo ordered his men to use bows to shoot down three or four hundred Dongqi people, none of whom survived, demonstrating the power of the arrows.

Arrows don't have eyes; if they miss during battle, they can kill your own people.

Abdo taught her how to pose, saying, "That's about right. Let me demonstrate for you."

He was usually carefree, but when he taught these things, he was quite professional. After speaking, he took an arrow from his quiver, nocked it on the string, held the bow in his left hand, spread his legs, and pulled the string back with his right hand.

His body was very strong; his muscles bulged noticeably when he exerted himself, his muscles were taut and powerful, exuding a masculine aura.

Wutong stared, not daring to blink.

The bowstring was released, and the arrow flew out.

when!

It shot right through the table.

Abudo was very satisfied with his results. He drew out the second arrow and ordered Wutong, "Pull out that arrow."

"okay."

Wutong ran over. The table was placed on the wall, a bit high, and she had to stand on tiptoe to reach the arrows.

But the arrow had penetrated too deep, and no matter how hard they tried, they couldn't pull it out.

Abdo couldn't stand it, so he went over and pushed her aside, easily pulling out the arrow with one hand and tapping her head with the fletched end.

"You don't even have this much strength? Did you eat for nothing? Watch me."

No sooner had he finished speaking than a cold snort came from the corner.

The two looked over and saw Nanxing standing with his arms crossed, exuding a powerful aura.

Abudo smirked and walked towards him: "You brat, you're not happy about it?"

Nanxing said expressionlessly, "I didn't say that."

"Then what are you humming about? Want to get beaten up?"

Nanxing said, "Just because you shot badly doesn't mean others can complain."

"I shot badly?" Abdo pointed incredulously at his nose, thinking he had misheard.

Wutong was stunned and ran over to cover Nanxing's mouth, saying to Abuduo, "Don't mind him, he's just talking nonsense, don't take it to heart."

"Bullshit, your balls are as big as oranges." Abuduo waved away the wutong tree and stared at Nanxing, saying, "You think I shoot badly? Then you try it. I'll give you a chance to show off."

Nanxing glanced at him and actually took the bow and arrow.

Wutong gasped in fright and grabbed him, saying, "Don't go crazy!"

Nanxing pulled her hand away, gave her a no-questions-asked look, and walked to the spot where Abuduo had just shot the arrow. After checking the distance, she took more than ten steps back before standing still.

Tolerable or unbearable!

Abdo originally intended to humiliate him, but he turned the tables and despised him instead, immediately becoming serious and cracking his knuckles.

He had never lost to anyone in his life, let alone a kid who hadn't even grown up yet.

Wutong clutched her clothes, feeling nervous and uneasy.

Under the watchful eyes of the two men, Nanxing nocked an arrow and slowly drew back the bow.

He was short and had short arms, but he was much stronger than Abu. He had a lot of difficulty drawing the bow, and he could only draw it about halfway before he couldn't draw it any further.

A mocking smile curled at the corner of Abudo's mouth.

Nanxing stared intently ahead, took a slight step, and then decisively let go.

whoosh-

The arrow made a whooshing sound as it slashed through the air, shooting towards the table like lightning, and then... it vanished!

Wutong looked completely bewildered, ran to the table, patted it, and asked, "Where's the arrow?"
