Chapter 9 Your Relationship

After a vigorous workout at the training ground, the two felt exhilarated. Upon returning, Abdo hosted a banquet, inviting all the soldiers to come and drink together until late at night.

Wutong wasn't a big drinker, and since she was just keeping someone company, no one forced her to drink. She sat alone in a corner, happily eating meat.

But I always felt uneasy, as if I had forgotten something.

what is it then……

Nanxing's lonely figure appeared, startling her so much that she dropped her chopsticks.

"My God, how could I forget about him..."

She quickly made an excuse to say goodbye to Abudo. Before leaving, she packed a few pieces of meat and a few pieces of bread onto a large plate, put them in her bosom, and hurried to the study.

It was pitch black outside the study. I pushed the door open and saw no one there.

She immediately turned around and went to her room.

Reaching the backyard, I finally breathed a sigh of relief.

A quiet firelight shone through the paper window, and a thin figure sat motionless by the window.

Wutong slowly walked over, pushed open the door and said, "I'm so sorry, I was practicing martial arts and lost track of time. Nanxing, have you eaten yet?"

The room was quiet; if it weren't for the lights being on, it would have been completely lifeless.

Nanxing sat at the table, but there was nothing on the table, and it was unclear what he was doing.

After Wutong walked in, he turned his head to look at her. Her clean and handsome features were delicate and beautiful, and her eyebrows and eyes even had a touch of nobility.

He didn't answer for a long time, and Wutong felt uneasy under his gaze, so she couldn't help but ask again.

Nanxing turned her head away, looked down at the table, and remained silent.

"Are you upset that I forgot about you? I really didn't mean to..."

Wutong walked over, put down the plate, and patted his head.

Seven or eight-year-old children are neither too old nor too young, but they are precisely the kind of children who cause headaches.

Nanxing's lips moved, and she suddenly asked, "What is your relationship with him?"

Wutong let out a blank "Ah."

Nanxing said, "Abudo."

"Nonsense." Wutong lightly slapped his head, feigning anger, and said, "He's a general, how can you call him by his first name?"

Nanxing remained silent, looking at her with utmost seriousness.

Wutong withdrew her hand and said awkwardly, "He is a general, and I am a guard. That's all there is to our relationship."

Nanxing's eyes shone brightly, like a star in the night: "Are you guys asleep?"

"What?" Wutong almost choked on her own saliva.

Nanxing asked stubbornly, "You slept with him, didn't you? Like those prostitutes."

Wutong was utterly shocked and said incredulously, "Don't talk nonsense, I'm a guard, I'm a man..."

She sounded somewhat guilty as she said the last half of her sentence.

Nanxing didn't refute her, but instead took something out of the drawer under the table and held it up in her hand: "If you were a man, what would this be?"

When Wutong saw what it was, her mind went blank.

That was her... breast wrap.

She had been living alone for a while and was used to being carefree. After washing the bra, she simply stuffed it into the closet without hiding it separately.

Who would have thought that Nanxing would discover it?

Will he tell others that she is a girl?

In a moment of panic, Wutong snatched it away and stuffed it under the bed.

Then she walked back and looked at him sternly, saying, "I saved you, you can't frame me, do you understand?"

Nanxing said, "I didn't mean to frame you."

"Then why did you bring this thing out?"

"I just want to know about your relationship with him, whether you actually slept with him or not."

Wutong was both anxious and annoyed, and her tone became out of control: "What does this have to do with you?"

This kid is meddling way too much!

"Of course!" Nanxing's brows furrowed deeply, his handsome face contorted into a ferocious expression. "If you've slept with them, then you're no different from those other women outside."

"Those women outside? What women?"

Nanxing remained silent again, staring intently at the table.

Wutong looked at him for a while, and the anger surging in her chest subsided.

She took a deep breath and asked him in a low voice, "Do you really think this is an important question?"

Nanxing nodded vigorously.

"Alright, I'll tell you then. Apart from our professional relationship, I have no other connection with General Abdo. In fact, apart from you, no one here knows that I'm a woman."

Wutong paused for a moment, then said, "General Abdo is a good man. He took me in, which gave me the opportunity to save you. You don't need to be hostile towards him, understand?"

Nanxing remained frozen for a long time before finally nodding.

Wutong breathed a sigh of relief, pushed the plate over, and said, "Are you hungry? I brought this back especially for you. Eat slowly, then go to sleep. Don't practice calligraphy tomorrow."

Nanxing stiffly took the plate, grabbed a pancake, and took a bite.

Wutong rubbed her forehead, walked back to the bedside, and leaned against the headboard to look at him.

In the candlelight, Nanxing's body looked even thinner, untouched by the world, as if she would be carried away by the wind at any moment.

He and Zhao Sanyang met after Wutong came to Dagua Town, but they were completely different people.

Zhao Sanyang smiled broadly, his thoughts and actions clearly written all over his face.

Nanxing is like someone wearing a mask.

Even though Wutong was closest to him, she still couldn't see through his mask to his true face.

After Nanxing finished eating, he took the plates out to wash them.

Afterwards, I went into the room and consciously slept on the floor.

Wutong was indeed a little angry with him tonight, but she didn't argue and just went to bed.

This is the second night the two of them have been in the same room, but it's even more awkward than last night.

The night passed.

In the morning, Wutong woke up and as soon as she opened her eyes, she saw Nanxing kneeling in front of her bed.

She was startled and quickly sat up, asking, "What are you doing?"

Nanxing knelt down earnestly, bowed his head and said, "I was wrong about what happened last night. I apologize to you now and hope you can forgive me and let me stay here."

Wutong said in surprise, "I didn't say you could leave."

Nanxing suddenly looked up, asking incredulously, "Really?"

"Of course, did I say that?"

Nanxing said, "But you clearly told me last night... not to practice calligraphy today..."

Wutong laughed and said, "What I mean is that your handwriting is already very good, there is no need to practice anymore. Just copy official documents with me."

Nanxing blinked, still somewhat incredulous.

Wutong roughly guessed what he was thinking.

He thought she was trying to get rid of him, so he probably didn't sleep well all night.

At such an old age, it's truly pitiful.

She got up, put on her shoes, and patted his shoulder: "Don't overthink it. Hurry up and wash up and eat, but there's one thing you have to promise me."

Nanxing looked at her.

Wutong said, "I need to make a living by serving in the army, so please don't reveal my gender, okay?"

Nanxing said seriously, "I will absolutely not tell anyone!"

"Good, hurry up and get dressed, I'll go fetch water to wash my face..."

Wutong put on her coat and was about to leave when Nanxing ran over and stopped her, pressing her back down onto the bed.

"I come."

Before the words were even finished, the person had already walked outside the door.

Wutong looked at his stubborn back, which left no room for refusal, and smiled helplessly.
