Chapter 7 Plan Before You Act

He cautiously stepped inside, and when he looked up, the face of the Southern King under the moonlight was as flawless as solidified jade, unlike that of an ordinary person.

"Your Highness..." His knees buckled and he knelt on the ground.

Duan Fufeng parted his thin lips slightly and spoke lazily.

"Should I apologize for taking up your time?"

Steward Duan was so frightened that he kept kowtowing, his head banging loudly, and he even pulled Zhiwu to beg for mercy.

"Spare me, Your Highness! It's not what you think. He's completely loyal to you and would never have intended to harm you!"

Duan Fufeng glanced at him with disgust and said coldly, "Get out!"

Without saying a word, Steward Duan scrambled out.

The study returned to silence, a gentle breeze carrying the fragrance of night-blooming jasmine.

Duan Fufeng sat behind his desk without lighting a lamp, a strand of his long, black hair falling onto the Xuan paper, creating a striking contrast between black and white.

He knew what those people were hiding, and he was fully capable of making them regret their actions.

But now is not the time.

War broke out everywhere, and floods raged.

He led his men to investigate around the Dingjiang River and realized that the situation was far more serious than he had imagined.

Plan carefully before you act, and be patient.

The moonlight illuminated the things around him, and he picked up the wooden ball again, his gaze deep.

As dawn broke, Wutong finally returned to Abudo's mansion in Wuxing City.

At this time, the soldiers were still asleep, including Lieutenant Li, and no one noticed her.

She tied up the horse herself in the stable, and with her weary legs, she returned to her room. The soldiers in her room were fast asleep, their snores rising and falling, creating a strange concert.

Wutong pulled back the covers, snuggled into bed, and silently hugged herself, covering her mouth with the blanket to keep herself from crying out loud.

No matter how she tried to escape, the terrifying scene would reappear the moment she closed her eyes.

It hurt so much, it felt like my body was being split in two, the pain went right to my heart.

She was like a wounded animal, licking her wounds in a corner.

As she cried, Wutong realized something was wrong.

The man's breathing, body temperature, and subsequent strange behavior did not resemble those of an ordinary rapist.

Could he have been drugged?

This tactic is frequently seen in movies and TV dramas. Wutong and Ruolan once had an enthusiastic discussion about whether such a thing actually exists in the world.

I never imagined I would actually encounter it myself one day.

Even if he was drugged, it doesn't change the fact that he was a beast!

Forget it all, forget everything!

When dawn breaks, she will still be Wutong, Abuduo's bodyguard!

An hour later, it was broad daylight.

When Lieutenant Li was on his routine morning patrol, he heard that Wutong had returned alone in the early hours of the morning, so he immediately went to her room to check on her.

Wutong had been walking all night and was exhausted. She was half asleep when he was woken up and questioned.

"What happened to you? Where is the general?"

"I...I'm not feeling well..."

Wutong covered her forehead, feeling so uncomfortable that she felt like she was about to explode.

"Why did you become someone's bodyguard?"

Li Duwei glared angrily and pulled her up to scold her, but after seeing Wutong's face clearly, his anger subsided.

A pale face was visible, with two large dark circles under its eyes and red marks on its cheeks, whether from being beaten or falling, it was unclear. The arm it was holding was so thin it looked as if it could break with the slightest force.

"How did you get yourself into this state? Never mind, you should rest. I'll send someone to fetch the general."

He released the paulownia tree and prepared to walk out when a soldier hurried over to report.

"Lieutenant Li! The general is back!"

You're back already?

Not only was Li Duwei surprised, but Wutong also became much more awake.

Last night when she left, Abdo and his group were enjoying watching the dancers perform, eating and drinking well. They were probably having a great time until dawn.

She threw off the covers, put on her shoes, and went out with Lieutenant Li and the others.

When she came back last night, she had changed into clean clothes. Apart from walking with a limp, there was basically no other sign of anything wrong with her body.

Abdo stood outside the gate, waiting for someone to come and lead his horse, muttering curses under his breath.

"Hurry up! Haven't you guys eaten enough? You're such a spoilsport!"

Lieutenant Li went to greet him, ordered someone to take the reins, and asked, "General, why have you returned so early? I was just about to send someone to fetch you."

Abdo raised an eyebrow and asked with displeasure, "Catch? Am I a three-year-old child?"

Li Duwei remained indifferent.

Abdo angrily shoved him away: "Get out of my way! I'm already annoyed, and seeing you makes me even more annoyed!"

Lieutenant Li asked, "General, did you not enjoy your meal at the Prince's residence last night?"

Abdo cursed, "It's not just unhappiness, I'm practically..."

He saw Wutong standing at the back of the crowd, and instantly became enraged, grabbing her and pulling her over.

"You little brat, you dared to stand me up last night! The general hadn't even left yet, and you, a mere guard, had already gone ahead? Is that even acceptable? Huh?"

Wutong was already dizzy, and with such a violent tug, she almost fainted.

Lieutenant Li came over and advised, "General, Wutong is unwell."

"Are you unwell?" Abdo released her, frowning as he asked, "What happened?"

Wutong steadied herself, swaying slightly, and said in a low voice, "I might have caught a bit of a cold..."

She would never tell you what really happened, even if you killed her.

Abudo said disdainfully, "You're so skinny, if you don't catch a cold, who will? I'll teach you to learn from me more often."

What to study?

Should we learn from him to drink alcohol, eat meat, and resort to violence at the slightest disagreement?

Wutong was both amused and exasperated.

Lieutenant Li waved for the crowd to disperse and asked in a low voice, "General, has something happened at the Prince's residence?"

Abdo said with a sour expression, "It's been stolen."

"Stolen?"

Li Duwei was puzzled, but Wutong's heart was filled with alarm bells as she listened intently.

Abudo said, "Halfway through our drinking session, the dancers were called away. Not long after they left, someone rushed in and searched us, saying that a treasure had been stolen from the palace. Can you believe it?"

Lieutenant Li asked calmly, "Has the treasure been found?"

"Who knows? They searched us without saying a word and then sent us out, even through the guards. The prince and Steward Duan didn't even show their faces. This meal was truly humiliating."

Abdo still felt a burning anger inside him when he thought about that incident, and he couldn't hold back his rage. He raised his hand and shouted, "Bring me my big knife!"

The attendant was about to take it when Li Duwei stopped him, advising, "General, we must not go to the drill ground today."

"how?"

"Have you forgotten? We should head to Moon Gate Pass."

Abdo suddenly remembered this matter and had no choice but to give up, walking sullenly into his room.

There were still many things to prepare before setting off, but Abuduo was in no mood to care. After Lieutenant Li persuaded him, he went off to do his own thing.

Wutong didn't want to lie in bed alone, and since she couldn't find anything to do, she followed closely behind Abudo.

Once inside the room, Abudo poured himself a drink and drank it with a more hearty manner than others did when drinking water.
