The Strongest Magician of Gods
Chapter 27: Joining the Soul-Stealing Hall
The old sorcerer at the desk had a pair of cloudy eyes that stretched out and shone with boundless light, which vanished in a flash. His messy silver hair flew about on his forehead, and there was a palm-sized scar between his eyebrows, pale yet carrying an evil aura.
The old mage before them was the Enforcer of the Hall of Souls in Austin City's Registration Department, and one of the most respected figures in the Magic Guild.
From the memories in his mind, Mo Bei knew how terrifying this person was; he was one of the most powerful enforcers in the Magic Guild.
"Oh, it's Master Mo! We're all magicians of the same rank, no need for formalities."
The old man's deep voice rang out as he slowly rose to his feet. His powerful eyes narrowed, and a surge of immense magical power erupted from his body, causing his magic robes to flutter wildly.
"Damn, this old man is the epitome of hypocrisy. He talks so easily, but what's with that magic he's releasing? Isn't it just a show of force?"
Mo Bei swallowed hard and deliberately shuddered.
"You flatter me, sir. With your esteemed status, how could you possibly be on equal footing with me? Besides, I came here precisely because of your reputation, which is why I decided to try my luck at the Soul-Seizing Hall. I hope you will encourage me."
Mo Bei bowed slightly, having learned a bit about the old man's temperament from his past memories, so he lowered himself to test the waters.
"oh!"
The old man was taken aback; Mo Bei's intentions were too obvious, catching him off guard.
"Master Mo means he wishes to become a disciple of my Soul-Seizing Hall."
The old man was surprised. He had lived in Austin for more than ten years, but no one had ever been so determined to join the Soul Stealing Hall. Wasn't he afraid of death? Moreover, this kid was once a disciple of the Angel Gate. If it were an ordinary force, even if they liked him, they wouldn't dare to take him in.
"Could it be that this kid offended the Angelic Gate, and seeing that other forces dared not take him in, he came to my Soul-Seizing Hall to try his luck?"
The old man pondered for a moment, his sharp eyes constantly scrutinizing Mo Bei as he pondered his next move.
Mo Bei's heart leaped with joy upon seeing the hesitant old man. Hesitation represented a glimmer of hope. Besides, the Soul-Seizing Hall was extremely strict in accepting disciples; almost no one but a high-level mage could pass the old mage's test. But high-level mages were all geniuses; why would they join the Soul-Seizing Hall to die? In just a few years, the Soul-Seizing Hall had only accepted three to five nominal disciples, and after several missions, there would probably be even fewer.
Mo Bei chuckled inwardly. With his business experience from his previous life navigating the crowds, he was able to guess the old man's thoughts pretty accurately.
"This old man must be under some kind of pressure right now. Sects are somewhat similar to companies, and what companies value most are performance and character. This old man doesn't seem to have much character, and his business skills are even worse. But now there's a performance opportunity delivered to his doorstep. No matter how the old man considers it, he shouldn't turn it down! Besides, he hesitated for so long; it's not just about my intentions. There might be other factors involved. I just don't know what he's worried about."
Mo Bei lowered his head deeply, his mind racing and his tone filled with resentment.
"It's a difficult situation. Although I am a high-level mage, I have been suppressed and hidden by the Angel Gate for the past few years. Therefore, I caused a scene at the Magic Guild today to completely sever ties with the Angel Gate."
Mo Bei sighed, looking utterly hopeless.
"Oh, I really thought so?"
The old man frowned slightly, recalling that the young man hadn't really come to the Magic Guild many times in the past few years. For more than a decade, he had been keeping an eye on the movements of high-level mages throughout Austin City. After thinking about it carefully, he also felt that it was possible. After all, given the young man's stubbornness in the past, it wouldn't be surprising if he offended one or two people.
"This is rather troublesome."
The old man sighed, rose from his desk, and frowned, lost in thought.
"You! You've made the adults put in such a difficult position for no reason."
Seeing the old man's troubled expression, Luo Xiu assumed that the old man was afraid of offending the deacon of the Angel Gate by accepting Mo Bei, so he walked to Mo Bei's side and whispered his criticism.
"Mind your own business. That's just how I am, always meddling in other people's business, hmph."
Mo Bei rolled his eyes at Luo Xiu, almost making him faint from anger.
"Kid, you wait. Don't think that just because you're an instructor at Austin Magic Academy, I, Luo Xiu, won't dare touch you. Even if you're a disciple of the Angel Gate, I, Luo Xiu, am still not afraid. Killing you is just a matter of snapping my fingers; it won't take much effort. What's the Angel Gate? I'm from the Soul-Seizing Hall!"
Luo Xiu looked furious and pointed at Mo Bei, cursing him in a low voice.
But when these words reached Mo Bei's ears, they made him suddenly fall silent.
"Uh, what's wrong with this guy now? He seemed fine when he was cursing, but listening to him again, it seems like he wasn't even saying it to me! Does this kid like gay men? At a crucial moment, he's subtly helping me. I really suspect he has some ulterior motive. Maybe I'm just overthinking it."
Mo Bei was stunned. Suddenly, he found Luo Xiu quite adorable. Although he thought this kind of provocation was childish, it was the best thing to do in the moment.
The atmosphere in the space was extremely eerie. The cursing and swearing quickly subsided, and the space returned to silence, with only the old man lost in thought.
"This is really troublesome. The Soul-Seizing Hall has been quite turbulent lately, with many deaths. Although Mo Bei's identity is clean, something still feels off. If this kid's identity is unusual, and he manages to get through the sect's external mission again, I'll be in trouble when it's discovered that there's a problem. Could it be that he's really being suppressed by the Angel Gate, or is he hiding some other identity? But if not, wouldn't we have missed another spot?"
The old man pondered for a long time, then gradually moved, turning around to stare intently at her with piercing eyes.
"Very well, since Master Mo is so eager to join my Soul-Seizing Hall, how could I refuse him?"
The old man laughed, then laid out a magic register. A white quill pen automatically and quickly recorded Mo Bei's simple information in the register without any wind.
"Is that alright?" After registering, the old man showed the information on the form and smiled at Mo Bei.
"Thank you, Lord Yuanlong."
Mo Bei bowed slightly and thanked him.
"It's alright. My job is to select talents for the sect. A young and talented magician like Master Mo is a blessing to our Soul-Seizing Hall. If Master Mo were to be fortunate enough to peek into the outer sect, I'm afraid this old man would have to give him a few words of advice," the old man said.
How dare I? How dare I?
After completing the registration, Mo Bei slowly stepped out the door amidst the farewells.
With a "thud"
The door to the registration department of the Soul-Capturing Hall closed, and Mo Bei's playful expression gradually calmed down.
"Although it wasn't easy, we ultimately achieved our goal. From some of Zhuge Yu's words, we can glean some clues. The Soul-Seizing Hall has already purged a portion of the Blood Fiend Hall's people, so I'm not entirely safe yet. However, considering my own identity, there shouldn't be any problems. It would be best to use my physical ailments as leverage. It seems I need to make contact with the fat monk."
"It's a task I can't refuse. Although Zhuge Yu didn't say it, his eyes told me everything. I can't refuse. My identity is a huge threat; if it's leaked even slightly, I'll die a horrible death. I can't afford to gamble. Perhaps the fat monk has a way, but I can't harm him. Right now, the most important thing is to solve my physical ailment."
Mo Bei was uneasy. The excitement was accompanied by a sense of crisis, and thinking about Yuan Long's hesitation earlier made him feel extremely scared.
Mo Bei sped down from the fifth floor, and in just a few breaths he flew out of the Magic Guild building. In a flash, he dashed onto the bustling street and gradually blended into the crowd.
