The Strongest Magician of Gods
Chapter 20: Playing Tricks
Mo Bei changed into a magic robe and entered the castle. The emblem of Austin Magic Academy was too eye-catching. As he moved forward, several corridors appeared in front of him. Those corridors seemed to have no end, like avenues to the sky, stretching to the horizon.
At this moment, recalling the memories in his mind, he took deep, steady steps, weaving through a corridor and running.
As we went deeper, a noisy, chaotic sound gradually came into view.
Soon, dozens of magicians, dressed in robes of various colors, lined up neatly in the hall, waiting to be greeted by the receptionist.
This hall serves as the reception area for the Magic Guild. The crystal-clear walls on both sides flicker with blue light from time to time, resembling a giant LCD screen.
Mo Bei carefully examined the lights in the hall and the screens on the walls.
The LCD screen was over ten feet tall, with many lights flashing within it, and upon closer inspection, rows of text were displayed on the screen.
It turns out that this LCD screen displays various external missions issued by different factions in Austin City. Whenever the Magic Guild issues missions to various factions, they are displayed on the screen.
Many mages of lower skill levels have been waiting here for a long time, hoping to find a suitable mission so as not to miss the opportunity.
In the hall, all sorts of mages gathered. Some of them were old and had a full head of silver hair, just to take on more missions. If they were lucky, they could join a small faction and live out their old age in peace.
"The previous owner hasn't come for three years. I wonder if he'll be given a hard time!"
Mo Bei pondered, ever since he came to the magical world, his luck had been rather bad. Although it had improved somewhat, the core problem remained unresolved.
"Da da"
Mo Bei took a step forward, her magic robes fluttering, and carefully entered the hall.
However, to his surprise, the magicians in the hall were all rather old.
At that moment, a young magician suddenly appeared, and everyone's eyes naturally fell on him.
"Swish"
Pairs of eyes turned to look at him, and Mo Bei felt a chill run down his spine from their stares. What kind of gazes were those? They were filled with confusion and surprise.
Mo Bei weaved through the crowd, grinning and grimacing, though clearly embarrassed.
"Excuse me, I'm a junior mage who has only recently advanced to the beginner level. I hope you senior mages will take good care of me."
Mo Bei, feeling incredibly awkward, weaved through the chaotic crowd, looking utterly disheveled.
"This little guy is so young, yet he's quite the smooth talker." Some of the older men were amused by Mo Bei's appearance and teased him.
"It's been a long time since I've encountered such an interesting new magician. Judging from his age, he should have good potential. Who knows, when he joins the company, magicians from other factions might come to invite him."
Another mage sighed. After all, Mo Bei was too young. His face was still immature. He had entered the realm of a beginner mage at such a young age. It was reasonable to assume that his talent might not be the best, but it was definitely in the second tier. He was much better than them, these old guys who were about to die.
"Kid, think this through carefully before you start, or you'll regret it later."
Among the people queuing, a middle-aged man whispered something to Mo Bei, who was stunned.
"Thank you very much"
Mo Bei smiled broadly, his youthful appearance revealing a hint of naivety.
"Da da"
After a long while, Mo Bei grew tired of waiting in line. Suddenly, a series of magical vibrations came from the noisy hall.
"Swish"
One after another, figures used their lightness techniques to rush down the corridor, and the sounds coming from within were occasionally mixed with the soft laughter of children.
"broken."
Some elderly magicians felt a jolt in their hearts, their cloudy eyes gazing into the deep corridor.
Looking into the hall from afar, the numerous figures were all startled by the vibrations coming from the corridor. Only Mo Bei stood in line with a relaxed expression, thankfully it was his turn.
"My name is Mo Bei, and this is my guild badge. Excuse me, I'm here to report for duty."
Mo Bei took a step forward, his youthful face still beaming with a smile. He took out the jade badge that Green had given him from his pocket, completely ignoring the sounds of air being torn apart around him. For a high-level mage, such a small scene was not worth disturbing.
At this moment, all he wanted was to finish his report as soon as possible and return to the academy to continue his cultivation. He had no interest in anything else.
"Swish"
The female magician at the front desk glanced at him, then casually looked at the jade badge in Mo Bei's hand before quickly looking away, completely ignoring him as if she hadn't heard him.
"Uh"
Mo Bei was embarrassed. The hall suddenly fell silent, and even the previous noisy commotion was abruptly suppressed. Everyone stared wide-eyed at the corridor.
"Whether in this life or the next, the service industry is all the same. Oh well, I guess I'll just consider myself unlucky."
Mo Bei was angry for a moment, but quickly calmed down and smiled again.
"Excuse me for bothering you, I'm here for a performance review. My name is Mo Bei, and I am an angel..."
Mo Bei smiled again, his tone even more peaceful, but he was very pleased with himself. "As the saying goes, a person who doesn't smile much is a good person. With my years of experience in flattery, I don't believe I can't handle a receptionist magician."
However, Mo Bei was hit with another blow the next moment. He only managed to say half a sentence before being unexpectedly interrupted.
"That's enough, keep queuing. We can't serve you right now, or come back this afternoon!"
The receptionist's voice was mechanical and extremely stiff; just from the tone of her voice, you could tell this wasn't the first time.
The long queue was occasionally filled with soft sighs, and some elderly people could only shake their heads helplessly without complaining.
"Nani"
Mo Bei's eyes were vacant, and his throat felt like it was on fire from the irritation.
"What kind of attitude is this? I'm speaking to you nicely, and you think I'm some kind of chamber pot that you can just throw away without even using me. Damn it, I'm not using my status to intimidate you, I'm just spoiling you, and you've only made things worse."
Mo Bei flipped through the silver, feeling resentful.
"Snapped"
Immediately, Mo Bei raised his hand and slammed it onto the countertop.
“I’m here to report on my work, not some lackey you can just assign. Listen up, I don’t care who those people in the corridor are, I’m going to report before them, otherwise nobody can get here.”
Mo Bei was furious. As one of the few high-level mages in Austin City, when had he ever been looked down upon like this? Perhaps the Magic Guild was something else, but in Austin City, high-level mages were the gods.
"This is outrageous! I just fought a great mage, do you think I'd be afraid of you little brats? You must be joking."
Mo Bei glared angrily, his mindset slowly shifting. This attitude would inevitably alarm some higher-ups. Once he revealed his identity, everyone would be on good terms, and face would be saved.
"We can use some tricks and make a fuss about it."
Hehe! We'll just get straight to the point and use the Angel's Gate as our starting point to force them to back down. After that, we can manipulate things out of thin air. Haha, what a genius idea! These little guys are still too green.
