Adorable Kids in Space: Lucky Wife is So Carefree

Chapter 76, Parts 3 and 4: Upon their return, the Jiang family encountered a ghost.

“General, based on what you said, we first found Jiang’s maternal family. Twenty-six years ago, there was only one member of the Jiang family who was working in another place. That was Jiang’s eldest brother, Jiang Yuan. Back then, he was a cook in the Zhou family of Shanghang County.”

"However, after extensive investigation, including checking the records of missing persons in the mansion and the government's missing persons files, it was found that no children as young as two or three years old went missing in the Zhou family during those years. This included not only Zhou family relatives or maternal relatives, but also those who frequently visited the mansion."

"But 26 years ago, Jiang Yuan quit his job for some unknown reason and returned to his hometown, Jiang Village in Fengcheng Town. According to the village elders, when Jiang Yuan returned, he did bring back a child who was said to be from a wealthy family. The child was about two or three years old and often cried at night, so he left a particularly deep impression on them."

"The child disappeared later. It was assumed that the family had taken him back, so the villagers didn't think much of it. Now, however, there's no way to find out." Thirteen and Fourteen sounded a bit disheartened as they spoke.

"Jiang Yuan lived a very good life in the village afterward. He built a two-courtyard house, bought seventy or eighty acres of land, which is not something a small cook could afford. He also took a concubine and hired many farmhands. However, Jiang Yuan passed away six years ago." Thirteen and Fourteen also learned indirectly that Jiang Yuan's descendants were unaware of this, which is a great pity.

Upon hearing the reports from Thirteen and Fourteen, Tang Ershi fell into deep thought. If he had been more alert earlier, perhaps he wouldn't be in such a passive position.

Tang Ershi only heard about it from an old woman, whom he called "Grandma," who was a clan elder. She said that when she first came to Tang Laoqi's house as a child, she was dressed in fine clothes and had a jade pendant around her neck. She also mentioned some scattered information about his uncle, but it was not complete.

Tang Ershi was too young to pay much attention, and at that time the old woman was already a bit confused and would occasionally talk nonsense, so Tang Ershi didn't take it seriously. It wasn't until after the old woman died that Tang Ershi occasionally thought about it and thought it was just a delusional thought that he had gone crazy from poverty.

Thirteen and fourteen, based on clues from Jiang's maternal family, investigated and found that the matter was indeed true. However, the clues were lost, but it also confirmed that they were not from the Tang family.

It would be very difficult to investigate further, but Tang Ershi did not intend to let Tang Laoqi's family off so easily.

In the dead of night, the villagers of Tangjia Village went to bed early as usual. The quiet village was first disturbed by a few barks of dogs, and then fell silent again, without disturbing anyone.

Three dark figures flashed into Tang Laoqi's courtyard. First, one of them sprayed sleeping powder into the window of the east room where Zhang Shi and Tang Xin lived. Then, another dark figure went to the main room and chopped Tang Laoqi in the neck, knocking him unconscious. He then carried him out.

Suddenly, a loud bang came from the doorway, and a howling wind rushed in, sounding like a ghost's cry. It woke Jiang Shi up instantly. She was just about to curse: "That damned devil didn't even close the door properly when he went to the outhouse!"

A red candle swayed and moved forward, illuminating a man in a white coat with a bloody hole in his chest and a sinister face who was closing in. Who else could it be but Tang Ershi?

Jiang reached out tremblingly to push Tang Laoqi, but her hand missed. She panicked even more and became flustered. The bed was covered with wet and sticky stuff, and when she raised her hand, she saw that it was covered in blood.

She was so frightened she almost fainted, and screamed, "A ghost!"

"Give me back my life! Give me back my life!" The two palms projected on the wall grew larger and larger, feeling like they were about to strangle him. This was the real voice of Tang Ershi; it would be strange if it didn't scare people to death.

Jiang staggered as she tried to get out of bed and run to the east room, where at least Zhang and Tang Xin were. However, Jiang's feet were tangled together, and she couldn't escape no matter what she did.

"Ershi, don't come any closer. I didn't hurt you. I raised you with all my heart. I'm your mother. Don't come any closer."

"Are you my mother? You kidnapped me when I was two or three years old, leaving me unable to return home. I will die with my eyes open in disgrace. You are the culprit."

"No, no, no, don't come any closer. It's not that I want to hurt you. It's my older brother. No, it's not my older brother. My older brother was entrusted by someone. They originally wanted my older brother to kill you, but later he couldn't bear it and entrusted you to me to raise. That's why he gave me fifty taels of silver."

"Where are my parents? Where are they? I'm going to find them, I'm going to find them. If I can't find them, I'll make you die." The low, emotionless words were chillingly cold.

“We don’t know your father or mother either. Your older brother said that the Zhou family ordered you to be brought out and killed. He didn’t say who your parents were, but said that they were brought back from the capital.”

"Where are the clothes I was wearing and the jade pendant?"

"Your clothes, your clothes, so many years ago. I didn't dare keep them back then, I threw them away long ago. I only remember that the clothes were light blue, with golden bamboo leaves embroidered on them. Da Shi wanted to snatch that jade pendant, but you cried and made a fuss and wouldn't give it to me. In the end, Da Shi threw it on the threshold, and it broke in half, so I couldn't sell it for money. I put it at the bottom of the chest." Madam Jiang was about to collapse, not daring to lift her head.

"Give me back my jade pendant! Give me back my jade pendant! Or I'll make you pay with your life." The voice grew colder and colder.

"You wait, you wait, I'll give it to you, I'll give it to you. Please don't blame me, I was soft-hearted and didn't strangle you as the Zhou family said, I've raised you for a while, please let me go, I beg you, I know I was wrong."

"You know you're wrong, but how dare you poison my wife and children? I've been watching everything you've done from down there," Tang Ershi said sternly, his tone shifting to a more aggressive one.

"I'll never do it again, I'll never do it again, please let me go, I'm begging you. I'll kowtow and burn incense for you every festival from now on. Please forgive me, don't look for me anymore, I beg you."

"That depends on your future performance. Otherwise, I will make sure you die a horrible death."

Upon receiving the jade pendant and seeing that there were still over a hundred taels of silver in the chest, Tang Ershi immediately accepted it.

Jiang kept kowtowing, admitting her mistakes, and making promises until her head bled. Finally, she fainted and didn't know when Tang Ershi left.

Tang Laoqi was found at the foot of the mountain the next day and carried back. It was said that he had been possessed by an evil spirit and had been chilled to the bone, and his mouth was crooked and he kept drooling when he spoke.

After Jiang woke up, she was somewhat delirious and became disheveled, unable to explain what had happened.

Zhang and Tang Xin were naturally unaware of the situation; on the contrary, they were quite happy, thinking that they would no longer suffer at Jiang's hands.

Tang Dashi was very upset when he returned and saw the situation. He found a traveling doctor to examine the two men. Tang Laoqi was a little better, but his mouth was completely crooked, and his legs were also not very good after catching a cold, so he could hardly do farm work.

Jiang was alright; he could cook and feed the pigs during the day, but he would become delirious at night and only dared to sleep if he lit an oil lamp.

Tang Dashi wanted to report it to the authorities, but none of his family members could provide any clues, so he gave up.

They wanted to rent out all of their dozen or so acres of land, but rumors in the village said their family had been cursed and it was considered too unlucky, so no one dared to farm their land. Later, three households from a neighboring village who didn't own land came together, but they only paid half the normal rent.

As a result, after paying rent, there's not much income left, and without being frugal, it's not enough for the family to live on.

A few days later, rumors spread that Jiang's family home was inexplicably burned down, and the house was completely destroyed. This truly proved that their family had done too many bad things and had been punished by heaven.
