Chapter Ninety-Five
I recognized the voice above me and instinctively looked up to see Gu Jinhuai standing next to me, taking another cup of milk tea from the shop assistant.
When he noticed my gaze, Gu Jinhuai glanced at me, his eyes gentle and a faint smile playing on his lips. Just as he was about to speak, we turned and left with our milk tea.
I never expected to run into him while buying milk tea. The footsteps behind me grew closer and closer, and I tightened my grip on the milk tea bag and quickened my pace.
The next moment, my wrist was grabbed by the man. I glanced at him indifferently, my dark eyes were calm and still, my face was expressionless, and I stared at him silently without saying a word.
"Zhizhi, I..."
I didn't say anything, just stared at him and let him explain.
Looking at my expression, Gu Jinhuai felt a sudden pang of pain in his heart. He loosened his grip on my wrist slightly, and after a long while, he uttered three words: "I'm sorry."
I smiled at him, raised my hand and slapped him across the face, my expression cold: "Gu Jinhuai, this slap is what you owe me. Now, we're even."
I shook off his hand and turned to leave.
I stayed in Beijing for three days and bought a ticket to return to Lincheng the next day. Fu Yiran left early because of family matters, and Su Qi also returned to school early because of school matters.
I was gazing at the night view outside the window, my arms crossed, when I received a phone call.
"Nanzhi, save me...dududu."
It was Zhao Fang's voice, urgent and sharp.
Then came a busy signal. I frowned and dialed back, but no one answered.
After much hesitation, I finally called the police, but they said they would only file a case after 24 hours.
Finally, I provided my phone number, and at my request, the police cooperated in locating me.
I felt uneasy. My right eyelid kept twitching. We hadn't been in touch for so long, and Zhao Fang suddenly called me from an unknown number. Had Zhou Yong found out?
As I was lost in thought, Zhou Yong's cursing voice came from the corridor.
"Where's your mom? Why would she contact you? Have you two been doing something behind my back?"
Looking at his fierce and menacing appearance, a fear that seemed to emanate from my very soul made me shrink back in terror.
Fortunately, we were at the police station, and Zhou Yong was relatively restrained. When he came over, he grabbed my arm and tightened his grip. I groaned in pain and subconsciously shook off his hold.
"I do not know."
My expression was indifferent.
Seeing this, the policewoman next to me blocked my way and said in a cold voice, "Calm down."
Zhou Yong glared at me, then looked at the policewoman, his attitude still relatively polite: "Police officers, you must help me find my wife, please."
Looking at the ruthlessness in Zhou Yong's eyes, I felt a chill run through me.
"Don't worry, we will do our best to find them as soon as possible."
After leaving the police station, I was about to leave when Zhou Yong strode up behind me and blocked my way: "Where are you going? Is your mother's escape related to you? You're getting bolder and bolder. Now you actually dare to challenge me. What? You think you can rest easy just because you have Gu Jinhuai? Let me tell you, even if you're just a skeleton, I, Zhou Yong, will still call the shots."
Listening to his shouting, I just thought he was a madman.
I waited quietly for him to roar. Anyway, I've lost my studies and my job, so I'll never be threatened by him again.
I watched as he kept poking my forehead with his index finger, looking displeased, and I raised my hand to slap his hand away.
With a snap, Zhou Yong looked at the back of his hand, his face filled with anger, and glared at me fiercely.
"What? Zhou Yong, I've had enough of being suppressed by you for so many years. You used Grandma to threaten me before, and now that she's passed away, you're using her will to threaten me. Let me tell you, I have nothing now, so I'm not afraid of anything. I'll just fight you head-on!"
I stared at him fiercely, my voice rising involuntarily, my eyes bloodshot and filled with endless hatred.
When Zhou Yong saw me like this for the first time, he was stunned for a moment. I remembered what Zhao Fang had said to me, so I reached out and grabbed his hair, gave it a hard tug, and spoke with anger in my voice.
“Zhou Yong, I hate you. It's one thing for you to bully Mom, but now that she's gone, you still bully me. How have you treated us all these years? Just you wait, when you're old and can't walk anymore, I'll see how I torment you.”
As I spoke, I took advantage of his wailing to easily pull out his hair.
"Hey, Zhou Nanzhi, you've gone too far! I'll beat you to death!"
I watched as he became enraged, then swiftly withdrew my hand, carefully preserving the hair in my palm. I stared at him calmly, my tone cold, but my voice rose a few notches: "This is in front of the police station. If you're not afraid of going to jail, then go ahead and do it."
Zhou Yong paused, his gaze sweeping across the police station entrance. He muttered a curse under his breath, his eyes fixed on me with a sinister look. I instinctively took a step back, keeping a safe distance from him.
"You brat, just you wait! Without Gu Jinhuai protecting you, let's see how long you can stay arrogant!"
Zhou Yong left cursing, and I felt completely deflated, my legs went weak, and I was about to sit down on the ground when a hand with distinct bones supported my arm and gently pulled me back to my feet.
"Little Zhizhi, you haven't rested well, and you still want to kneel down to me. Although I am your savior, you don't need to perform such a grand ceremony."
Looking into Song Yuzhou's smiling eyes, and recalling my experience of being stranded on the island, I pulled my hand away from his and tightly clutched the strand of hair in my palm, my voice icy: "What do you want to do?"
"The way you pull your hair out is so fierce, it's scary to watch."
Song Yuzhou feigned fear, but my gaze turned cold. I walked up to him, staring intently at him, and said in a sinister tone, "You saw everything."
Song Yuzhou completely ignored the expression on my face, pretending to be afraid and vaguely covering his mouth with his hand, saying in a terrified tone, "Do you want to kill me to silence me?"
When he said the last four words, his tone slowed down and his voice became extremely soft.
"Yes, to silence them."
I watched his exaggerated acting, sneered, and slowly moved closer to him. I saw the fleeting suspicion on his face, and finally raised my other hand, jumped up, and slapped him on the back of the head.
"Ow..."
Song Yuzhou seemed not to have expected me to make a move directly. He subconsciously covered the back of his head, glaring at me with a resentful look and a hint of grievance in his eyes.
"Zhou Nanzhi, how dare you hit me!"
He glared at me through gritted teeth.
"So what if I hit you? I'll hit you!"
"When I see you, I think of that month I spent on the island, with no one around. I was so bored, and you even drove me to jump into the sea. Shouldn't you hit me?"
I raised my foot to kick Song Yuzhou, but he dodged it with lightning speed, staring at me with a grin: "Hehe, you can't hit me, you can't hit me!"
"Song Yuzhou, look at your feet!"
I gritted my teeth, smiled, and raised my foot to kick him. Seeing him retreat, a sly glint flashed in my eyes. I raised my hand, ready to hit him on the head.
Just then, Gu Jinhuai's voice came from not far away: "What are you doing?"
I was stunned for a moment, and Song Yuzhou's gaze swept over me. I didn't stop moving and took the opportunity to wave my hand. I heard a snap and felt a sharp pain in my palm.
Lifting his eyelids, he saw several red finger marks on Song Yuzhou's cheek, followed by the man's voice gritting his teeth: "Zhou—Nan—Zhi!"
Seeing his clenched teeth, I subconsciously shrank back. I didn't expect to hit him directly in the face, but I didn't know who I had offended. I was so used to being lice that I wasn't afraid of itching anymore.
"So what if I hit you? Who told you to—"
Before I could say anything more, Gu Jinhuai pulled me into his arms.
"So what if I hit you? My wife beats up whoever she doesn't like. You have a problem with that?"
Gu Jinhuai placed his large hand on my waist, gently stroking it, which sent a shiver down my spine.
I struggled several times, but couldn't break free.
Song Yuzhou, who was standing next to me, grabbed my hand and tried to pull me aside.
"let go."
Gu Jinhuai narrowed his eyes, a fierce glint in them, and stared intently at Song Yuzhou's obstructive hand, his voice carrying a warning.
“You’re the one who should let go. While you were taking care of other women, Xiaozhi was always with me.”
As I looked at the smile on Song Yuzhou's lips and listened to his words, my eyelids twitched.
"What did you say?"
Gu Jinhuai's face darkened instantly, and he tightened his grip on my waist.
