Chapter 65
"What do you mean?"
I frowned and questioned him coldly. Just as I was about to drag him out, my phone rang.
I glanced at the incoming call; it was from Fu Yiran.
"Hey."
I glanced at Gu Jinhuai, pushed him aside, and went straight inside.
"Nanzhi, I forgot to tell you, my friend said that a new roommate will be moving in with you today. You should be home by now, right?"
As I listened to Fu Yiran's words, my gaze fell on Gu Jinhuai, who had followed me in, and I gave a soft "hmm".
Immediately afterwards, Fu Yiran's slightly apologetic voice came through the receiver: "I was busy with student council matters just now and forgot. I'm sorry."
"It's okay. I thought my house had been burgled. It turns out it's just my new roommate."
I said this with a hint of sarcasm, and looked at Gu Jinhuai. The latter was expressionless, but he moved closer to me and sat down next to me.
I instinctively reached for the phone and stood up, but the man pressed my shoulder down and made me sit back down.
I watched him open his mouth and immediately reached out and covered it with my hand.
Between breaths, I felt the man's warm breath on my palm, tickling me. I instinctively wanted to let go, but afraid he would make a sound, I endured the tickling sensation and tightly covered his mouth, not letting him utter a single syllable.
Fearing he might resist, I gave him a warning look.
"Feel sorry."
Fu Yiran apologized.
"It's okay, it's not your fault. It's normal for you to be busy with the New Year and the start of school."
"If you're not comfortable having other people around, you can move to the pet store. There's a small bedroom there where you can stay."
Fu Yiran's voice was exceptionally clear in the empty living room, and Gu Jinhuai heard it perfectly.
Right after Fu Yiran finished speaking, I noticed Gu Jinhuai's chilling gaze. I glanced at him, and the little thoughts that had risen in my heart were suppressed.
"No need, this place is fine."
I politely declined Fu Yiran's offer and hurriedly hung up the phone. I realized that my left hand was still covering his mouth. I instinctively tried to pull it back, but the man grabbed my wrist, pulled it off, and placed it on his lap.
"You're quite clever. Are you afraid I'll cause trouble and embarrass you, or are you afraid I'll bully Fu Yiran? You choose to protect him?"
Gu Jinhuai spoke softly, yet he subtly put pressure on me.
As I listened to his words, I pulled my hand away from his grip, looked up to meet his gaze, and patiently replied, "It's close to the school here."
I saw the surprise in her eyes and gave her an answer that surprised her, but I wasn't lying. Compared to the pet shop, this place was much closer to the school.
"It's only a five-minute walk, you've calculated it really well."
I listened to Gu Jinhuai's words, my gaze blank, and retorted, "Aren't you the same?"
"Let me go right now, or else..."
My words contained a threat. Looking at my hand being gripped tightly, my gaze instinctively fell on his hand, but in the struggle, I noticed a string of English words carved on the web of his thumb.
Gu Jinhuai noticed my gaze, subconsciously clenched his thumb, looked at me with a smile, and said in a nonchalant tone: "Still trying to bite me? You're like a dog."
Hearing the sarcasm in his tone, I retorted directly, "You're the one who's like a dog... um..."
As soon as I finished speaking, Gu Jinhuai leaned closer, grabbed the back of my head with one hand, controlled my hands with the other, and kissed my lips.
Her lips were soft and yielding, and with each breath, a faint minty scent wafted over me, quickly enveloping me.
After a brief taste, a torrential downpour began, slowly engulfing me.
My heart started racing for no reason, and my eyes gradually filled with tears as I stared at him without blinking.
Even though she didn't like it, her heart would still be stirred the moment he touched her.
This is what it means to have a crush on someone when you're young!
After a long pause, Gu Jinhuai reluctantly let go, his eyes filled with tenderness, his voice hoarse and restrained: "Yes, I was born in the Year of the Dog."
I didn't know what to say for a moment, and finally I angrily pushed him away and ran back to my bedroom.
He slammed the door shut with a bang. For several days in a row, I avoided him. I really didn't know how to face him.
I woke up early this morning and had just opened the bedroom door, ready to go out, when I found Gu Jinhuai leaning lazily against the wall, glancing at me sideways, his voice low and tinged with displeasure: "How long are you planning to hide?"
I was startled and instinctively tried to close the door, but the man was quick; he stretched out his arm and blocked the door from the crack, slowly pushing it open.
I glared at him angrily, my tone unfriendly: "What exactly do you want?"
Gu Jinhuai opened the door, his back still pressed against the door panel, one leg slightly bent, arms crossed, chin raised towards my back, his gaze falling on the black coat discarded on the chair behind me.
When will you return my clothes?
Then I remembered that I hadn't washed the clothes from a while ago.
My face fell, and I said awkwardly, "You're so poor, you don't even have a change of clothes."
"What, you're reluctant to give it to me? That's fine too, then you can..."
Seeing his malicious look, I interrupted him directly: "You're overthinking it. I'll wash it right away and give it back to you as soon as I'm done."
My promise to Su Qi fell through again. I called Su Qi and it took me almost half an hour to calm her down.
Half an hour later, I picked up the clothes and threw them directly into the automatic washing machine in front of him.
Noticing his gaze, she smiled and explained, "I went to the store and asked. This is just ordinary cashmere. The washing machine won't damage it."
Do you still want me to hand wash it without paying a labor fee?
To my surprise, he stared at me for a long time before finally uttering only, "Whatever you like."
I glanced at him blankly, then went straight back to my bedroom. I'll go back when the time comes. That's the convenience of an automatic washing machine—you don't have to keep watching it.
Forty-five minutes later, I came out of the bedroom and found Gu Jinhuai still sitting on the sofa in the same position, motionless.
I only glanced at it before going to get the clothes. But when I took them out, I found that they were all wrinkled and covered in fine white lint, which took a lot of effort to clean.
My mind went completely blank for a moment, my face turned ashen, my brows furrowed tightly, and I muttered to myself, "How could this happen?"
I hesitated for a long time, and after mentally preparing myself, I walked over to Gu Jinhuai. I looked at the various data on his computer screen, but I didn't understand them.
I stood there awkwardly, like a child who had made a mistake.
Feeling frustrated, I cursed the store clerk I had asked about yesterday, but ultimately it was my own fault.
I never expected that putting a piece of clothing in the washing machine would turn out like this. I thought Gu Jinhuai was playing a trick on me, but I didn't expect that I really had to wash it by hand.
I looked at the clothes in my hand and got worried. How much did they cost?
After paying back what I owed him and deducting my daily expenses, I only have one million left. I don't know if that's enough.
Just as I was lost in thought, Gu Jinhuai looked up from the screen, glanced at me, and said softly, "Throw it away."
Hearing his nonchalant tone, I quickly said, "How much did this dress cost? I... I'll pay for it."
When I said that last sentence, I felt particularly unsure of myself.
Gu Jinhuai gave me a deep look, then looked back at the screen, his tone becoming much colder: "Sure, this is Mi Lai Zhi Jia's prized possession. You can check the price on their official website."
Upon hearing this, I quickly pulled out my phone, my fingertips trembling involuntarily. I tapped the screen rapidly, and soon the image popped up on the screen. It was exactly the same as this coat, with a logo on the inner collar.
I quickly flipped through the clothes to make sure they were from Mi Lai Zhi Jia before checking the price.
When I saw the price of this dress, my vision went black and I almost fainted.
Ten million? I could never earn that much money in my entire life. How am I supposed to pay it back?
I felt guilty for being so careless; couldn't I have washed his clothes more often?
Finally, he gently licked his dry lips, took a deep breath, and said, "Okay, I'll think of something."
I turned and left, clutching the clothes, muttering to myself, "It's just ten million. I'll pay you back once I've saved enough."
My heart is weeping.
Suddenly, I heard a man's soft laughter behind me. A blush crept up my ears, and I clutched the clothes in my arms tighter, quickening my pace.
