Chapter 31 Provocation

Ito Sawa hurriedly left the dormitory, when suddenly it struck him that he had forgotten to ask Kanzaki and Ichinose for their room numbers.

He knew that if he asked the dormitory manager, he might be able to find out Kanzaki's room number, but there was absolutely no way he could find out Ichinose's.

Moreover, he suspected that Sakagami-sensei would be monitoring this crucial information, and that if he inquired, Sakagami would quickly receive the information, rendering the time difference he had created meaningless.

Now that he was out, Ito Sawa decided not to go back. He thought he might as well go for a walk outside and, if Sakagami's surveillance hadn't been lifted yet, his behavior would appear more natural.

He strolled down the dormitory stairs, intending to buy a drink, but at that moment, his superpower activated automatically, making him realize something was wrong.

Ito Sawa's gaze sharpened, his eyes fixed on a girl with a ponytail in the shadows of the vending machine.

He paused, instinctively stepping into the shadows, and began to recall the plot of the original story. He remembered that the confrontation between the Horikita siblings and Ayanokouji would take place half a month later; this was only the first day, so it shouldn't be their turn yet.

However, when he looked over again, he found that the girl seemed to have noticed him as well and was preparing to leave.

Ito Sawa's mind raced as he stepped to stop her, considering all the possibilities. Finally, upon seeing her blue hair, he confirmed his guess—Sakayanagi's right arm, Yamamura Miki.

He quickly and decisively stood in front of her and said softly, "Mountain Village, would you like to talk?"

His appearance made Miki Yamamura stop in her tracks. A hint of surprise flashed in her eyes; she clearly hadn't expected to be stopped.

Miki Yamamura's gaze swept over Ito Sawa's face, her eyes filled with a mixture of wariness and curiosity. She was clearly considering Ito Sawa's intentions and assessing his strength.

Ito Sawa stood quietly in front of her, exuding confidence and composure.

Seeing her reaction, Ito Sawa knew he had guessed correctly. However, he did not relax. After all, the only thing he knew more about her than she did was her name. He was not even sure if she had already made contact with Sakayanagi. He could only rely on her reactions to continue the conversation.

Miki Yamamura frowned slightly, a hint of surprise flashing in her eyes.

She really didn't expect to be discovered, especially in the state of concealment that she was most skilled at.

Her name is not well known. From elementary school onwards, she was like a transparent person in the class. Even in a crowd, few people would notice her.

Her gaze was fixed on Ito Sawa, trying to find the answer in his face.

Her special ability, "color-changing existence," allows her to blend into her surroundings, almost as if she were invisible.

But now, this strange boy not only noticed her, but also called out her name accurately.

"Who are you?" Miki Yamamura's voice held a hint of wariness, her body tensing slightly, ready to respond to any potential threat. "How do you know my name is Miki Yamamura?"

Seeing Yamamura Miki's wary expression, Ito Sawa knew he had to be careful. He knew that every action and every word he uttered could affect the conversation that followed.

“I am Ito Sawa from Class B.” His voice was calm and friendly, without the slightest hostility. “I know your name because I know something about you.”

A flicker of doubt crossed Miki Yamamura's eyes; she didn't recall ever having any interaction with Ito Sawa. Her voice grew even colder: "I don't remember ever having any contact with you. Why do you know anything about me?"

Ito Sawa smiled slightly, knowing he had to give a reasonable explanation. A hint of sincerity flickered in his eyes: "My understanding of you comes from my observation of everyone at the school. I know you're not simple; your abilities and your background have piqued my interest."

Miki Yamamura's brow furrowed even more; she didn't believe Ito Sawa's words. Her body tensed further, as if ready to flee at any moment. Ito Sawa knew he had to act, or Miki Yamamura might disappear into the shadows.

Seeing the skeptical look in Yamamura Miki's eyes, Ito Sawa knew she wouldn't easily believe him. He decided to give a more specific explanation to dispel her doubts.

"Actually, it was Sakayanagi who told me." Ito Sawa's voice was calm, and his eyes revealed a hint of honesty.

As for why he said that, it was because he felt that since the process of Sakayanagi subduing his subordinates was inevitable, he might even become a driving force in it.

Why not let him control the process, allowing her subjugation to leave a natural rift between them, leaving his mark?

Upon hearing this explanation, Miki Yamamura's brows relaxed slightly, but she still harbored a hint of doubt.

She recalled the scene earlier that day when Sakayanagi set a trap for Kamuro at her seat, and the last glance Sakayanagi gave her, whether intentionally or unintentionally.

Sakayanagi noticed that it wasn't difficult for her to do it herself. Similarly, investigating her classmates wasn't difficult for her either.

But she couldn't understand why Sakayanagi would tell this boy from Class B about it, and why he would be the one to call her out.

Was she trying to scare herself? Or was there some deeper consideration? Miki Yamamura couldn't figure it out, but she was too lazy to delve into it.

“Fine, even if Sakayanagi told you,” Yamamura Miki’s voice held a hint of helplessness. “But why are you here, and why are you stopping me?”

Ito Sawa smiled slightly. He knew this was an opportunity, a chance to gain Yamamura Miki's trust. He decided to be honest: "I'm here because I believe we can have more exchanges, and perhaps we can help each other."

Miki Yamamura looked at Ito Sawa, a complex emotion flashing in her eyes. She wasn't sure if Ito Sawa was telling the truth, but she didn't want to judge anymore.

She decided not to linger there any longer; she planned to go further and actively hide herself away from the place.

“Ito Sawa, I don’t know what your purpose is, but I don’t want to have any more conversations with you right now.” Yamamura Miki’s voice carried a hint of determination. “If you really want to help me, then don’t come looking for me again.”

After saying that, Miki Yamamura turned to leave. Her figure slowly blended into the surrounding shadows, her existence becoming increasingly blurred.

Ito Sawa knew he couldn't force her to stay any longer; he had to give her some space.

“Yamamura-kun, I understand your concerns,” Ito Sawa’s voice carried a hint of respect. “But if you change your mind, you are welcome to come to me anytime.”

Miki Yamamura did not answer; her figure had completely disappeared into the shadows.
