Cultivation Kill

Chapter 20 Another Fork in the Road

The five people walked to a fork in the passageway.

"What's in that side road?" Shen Zige asked.

He has forgotten what happened before. People should always look forward and try to think more positively.

“I don’t know. I walked a distance there and heard a monster roar,” Zhang Kun said. “When I heard the roar, my legs went weak and I quickly retreated before it noticed me.”

Shen Zige and Long Aotian exchanged glances. Back on Earth, they both loved reading novels, and in those novels, places guarded by monsters usually contained treasures.

"The four of you stay here at the fork in the road. I'll go check out the situation first." Long Aotian had already condensed his spiritual energy and still had some confidence.

If the monsters inside were only ordinary-level and hadn't yet grown into demonic beasts, he could easily crush them. Long Aotian had read a book on basic knowledge of the cultivation world and knew that demonic beasts were equivalent to the Spirit Condensation stage, great demons were equivalent to the Foundation Establishment stage, and demonic beast kings were equivalent to the Core Formation stage.

Long Aotian, holding a torch, entered the fork in the road.

Shen Zige and the other three had no choice but to patiently wait for Long Aotian.

After a while, a beast's roar came, but the source of the sound seemed to be quite far away. By the time it reached Shen Zige, it had weakened considerably, as if the volume had been turned down.

Shen Zige continued to wait.

The sound of hurried footsteps approached...

Shen Zige raised the torch and saw Long Aotian, wounded and dressed in tattered clothes, fleeing in a disheveled state.

"Run!" Long Aotian shouted.

Without hesitation, the five people ran out of the passageway—

The people in front ran out of their torches and groped their way along, only to crash into the wall and scream in agony.

Shen Zige covered the rear, carefully protecting the torch and preventing it from going out.

A huge black shadow appeared behind Shen Zige and lunged at her!

Shen Zige was already prepared and dodged to the right.

"Peng!"

Mud and rocks flew everywhere, and Shen Zige felt the entire passageway shaking.

"It turned out to be a wild monkey demon."

Shen Zige glanced at it in the firelight and then took in the general appearance of the monster: a monkey demon that was three meters tall, with extremely long fur and a long scar on its face.

Shen Zige dodged the monkey demon's attack, which enraged the demon even more. The monkey demon bared its teeth and leaped at Shen Zige.

Shen Zige was highly focused. Anticipating the movement, she took a step back, then slid a step to the left, picked up a fallen wooden stick with her left hand, swiftly extinguished the torch with her right, and then leaped into the air—

in the dark.

The monkey demon swept his hands across the spot where Shen Zige had been standing.

Just then, Shen Zige thrust forward with two wooden sticks in his hands, accurately piercing the monkey demon's eyes!

The wooden stick in Shen Zige's left hand was sharper at the tip, and even with some resistance, it was still able to forcefully pierce through; the torch in his right hand had been extinguished, and the tip was just a fragile piece of black charcoal. The moment it pierced the monkey demon's left eye, it slipped to the side. When Shen Zige tried to exert more force, the monkey demon had already closed its eyes and retreated.

The monkey demon roared and went into a frenzy, waving its arms, and in an instant, mud and rocks fell like rain.

Shen Zige retreated hastily, but the opportunity was lost. He could only escape while the monkey demon was in pain. It was impossible to kill it unless he could blind it. In addition, Shen Zige had a sharp sword, so he had a chance.

Although it was dark, Shen Zige still remembered the way he came. He had seen a TV program before where someone walked through a complex maze while blindfolded. He wanted to sign up for that program, but he missed the registration deadline because he was busy playing games.

A few dozen seconds later, Shen Zige caught up with the people who had fled ahead.

Having lost an eye, the monkey demon became more cautious and stopped chasing after them.

"Light the torches," Shen Zige said. "Walk out slowly, and the monkey demon won't chase us anymore."

The sound of an electronic lighter rang out, and a flame appeared in the darkness.

Long Aotian tried to light the torch with his phone for a few seconds but failed. He then snapped his fingers and used a fireball spell to ignite the torch.

It has to be said that Long Aotian's fireball technique is becoming more and more proficient; this time, he did not fail.

"It's just a fireball spell, isn't it?" Shen Zige said. "Why do you have to snap your fingers to show off?"

"You're just envious and jealous," Long Aotian said smugly.

Shen Zige glanced at Long Aotian's tattered clothes and sneered, "Don't you know martial arts? Who gets chased like this by a monkey?"

“Human martial arts are useless against demonic beasts,” Long Aotian said. “Its strength, speed, and reach all exceed mine. How can I win? Moreover, it has thick skin and tough flesh, and its aura is at least at the mid-stage of the Spirit Condensation realm. Even if it stands still and lets me hit it, I can’t even make a scratch!”

Shen Zige thought that although Long Aotian was strong, his fighting strategy was rigid because of his martial arts. He hoped that Long Aotian would understand in the future that life-and-death battles could not be won by relying on fixed moves.

Just like in a game where you get the first kill of a lord, the first person to succeed is rarely someone who actually knows martial arts. It's usually a skilled player who cleverly uses the game rules and the right timing and location to achieve the kill.

After condensing the spirit, most of the previous martial arts skills become useless, and new combat rules need to be reconstructed.

The five of them encountered no further danger and returned to West Wind Valley.

“I plan to rest in West Wind Valley for a few days,” Long Aotian said. “You go to West Wind Lake to find Qin Jie first, and then return to Arena City.”

Long Aotian didn't mention Qin Jing, since he wasn't familiar with her and didn't want to go to the trouble of looking for her. He could help her out if it was a good thing, but anything more would be a burden!

Shen Zige believed that Long Aotian wanted to stay here for a few days because he was eyeing the monkey demon's treasure, but he didn't say anything and turned to leave.

When I arrived at Xifeng Lake, I didn't see Qin Jie.

Shen Zige tried shouting, and soon, a reply came from several hundred meters to her right: "I'm here!"

Shen Zige ran over and saw that Qin Jie had climbed up a big tree. On the tree, a wild boar with red eyes was circling around, seemingly waiting for Qin Jie to fall.

Having gained a great deal of information after his battle with the monkey demon, Shen Zige realized that this wild boar was just an ordinary beast, and he didn't take it seriously at all, charging straight at it—

The wild boar spotted Shen Zige and charged at her with a roar!

The wild boar's movements appeared to be in slow motion to Shen Zige. He easily dodged to the side, reached down, grabbed the boar's two hind hooves, lifted it high, and slammed it against a nearby tree trunk—

"boom!"

The tree trunk split open, accompanied by a tremor, and Qin Jie, who was hiding on it, screamed in surprise.

The wild boar, in pain, struggled desperately.

Shen Zige leaped up and slammed the wild boar's head into a protruding boulder on the ground—

Blood splattered, and the wild boar died instantly!

“I’m a bit hungry, we can roast wild boar.” Shen Zige said, waving at the tree, “What are you waiting for? Come down and help boil water and pluck the hair, there’s a lake nearby.”

Qin Jie slowly climbed down.

"How do we boil water without a pot?" Qin Jie asked.

"If you're wrong, then just drag her to the lakeside, wash her clean, and roast her," Shen Zige said. "Have you found your sister yet?"

"No, I guess she went to the nearby Arena City after she escaped," Qin Jie said. "When we go back later, I'll take the Star Realm Company's teleportation array to check it out."

“The teleportation fee is very expensive, one spirit stone per trip,” Shen Zige said. “That’s two spirit stones for a round trip. Are you willing to spend that? If you don’t find it, it’ll be a complete waste.”

“My sister is more than two precious stones in my heart,” Qin Jie said.

Shen Zige didn't know what to say, so she dragged the wild boar toward the lake.

After all, he was just an outsider.
