Being a passerby in HP female protagonist fanfiction
Chapter 91 Reality
I had Harry settle into a guest room first.
Harry obediently followed my instructions.
I figured he might not have eaten for a while, so I brought him a bowl of hot soup, some bread, and Hedwig's owl food. I was a little relieved after seeing Harry finish eating.
“Okay, everything’s alright now. Can you tell me exactly what happened?” I said, looking Harry into his eyes, in a reassuring tone.
Harry hesitated for a moment before explaining his relationship with the Dursleys. Perhaps because of his urge to confide, I could sense that Harry was particularly eager to speak at this moment, but he seemed to be still worried about something. However, he quickly made up his mind and told me about Dobby. Harry understood that the person in front of him wanted to help him.
"A little fairy who calls himself Dobby?" I pretended to think, my brows gradually furrowing. "I don't know, but I can ask the kitchen fairy when school starts. There are very few places where you can have a fairy, so maybe I can get some useful information."
“And like you said, he mentioned that person…” I glanced at Harry, “the only one who could rival Dumbledore, besides Grindelwald back then, was…”
Harry shivered inexplicably. He had also considered this possibility, and he felt the scar on his forehead begin to ache again.
“And he intercepted your letters and insisted that you not go to Hogwarts. There must be something hidden here, indicating that something dangerous is about to happen at Hogwarts.” I said, one question after another. “But I don’t understand, why was he so sure that you wouldn’t be harmed if you didn’t go to Hogwarts?”
“Hogwarts should be safe, well… better than anywhere else, at least better than where you are at the Dursleys.” I paused, my expression turning serious. “Harry, listen to me, you have to be extra careful next term.”
“I understand, but…” Harry was a little frustrated; he didn’t understand how these things had happened.
“Harry, now that all this has happened, I have to tell you,” I said, picking up where I left off. “You know, my parents are from China, and they lived through the time of that man’s rule. In order to protect themselves during that special period, they had some ways of judging danger and told me that something bad might happen while I was in school.”
“Those who have seen through the nature of fate cannot change it. I cannot leave Hogwarts, and my parents cannot come back to see me…” I slowly recounted all of this, ignoring Harry’s increasingly surprised expression. “When I went to save you, didn’t I use magic? But in fact, at that time I was not using my wand, but my parents’ wand.”
“The magic they cast with their wands won’t be tracked by the Ministry of Magic.” I glanced at Harry again and said solemnly, “Please keep this a secret. Please don’t tell anyone else. These secrets concern the safety of me and my parents.”
“I know, I won’t tell anyone.” Harry was genuinely shocked that his classmate was born into such a family. Was it divination or prophecy? But then he thought about Claire, who was also quite unusual, and it didn’t seem so strange anymore. He readily agreed.
Although Harry had received a full year of systematic magical training, it wasn't enough for him to understand the magical system. As soon as I told him what I was saying, he immediately believed it.
Besides, the magical world is already so wondrous, so what's wrong with having one more small Eastern family with a sense of danger? I think.
"Thank you very much, Harry. In exchange, I won't tell any other unrelated people about this unless absolutely necessary."
I nodded.
“No need to be so serious. My parents not only told me there would be danger, but they also told me there would be a good ending. I just hope everything goes well.” I tried to ease the tension. “You can stay here for a few days and write some letters to your friends. Ron and Hermione must be very worried about you.”
“Let’s observe for a few days and see if that elf named Dobby is still hanging around the Dursleys’ house after you leave,” I offered the current solution. “Or we can try writing to the professors later, like Headmaster Dumbledore and Hagrid, to see what to do in this situation… After all, we are all children and cannot be without guardians.”
After my long explanation and reassurance, Harry seemed much more at ease. When people are confused, what they need most is a rational and systematic plan. He seriously discussed possible solutions with me.
"In short, no matter how it ends, we can't let you be controlled by the Dursleys in that way anymore." My voice softened. "Now relax and get a good night's sleep."
"Yes, thank you, Claire." Harry's eyes sparkled, finally showing some of their gloom.
After talking to Harry, I hesitated and went to the living room, where Barty was waiting for me.
Under the lamplight, the young man seemed lost in thought. When he saw me, the corners of his mouth habitually turned up, revealing a gentle undertone.
"Can you tell me what happened now?" the young man asked.
“Gavin, it’s like this…” I recounted the whole story from beginning to end, including being called away by Hazel, seeing Harry being imprisoned and somewhat abused, and then rescuing him.
After hesitating for a moment, unsure whether Barty had heard me and Harry, I struggled quite a bit before revealing that an elf had appeared near the Dursleys' house and caused Harry to be warned by the Ministry of Magic.
Finally, I shared the solution that Harry and I had discussed.
“I understand…” Little Barty pretended to be thinking seriously. He first praised and comforted me, telling me that these were not big deals.
"On the contrary, I'm glad Claire handled it very well," he said. "But promise me, next time something like this happens, don't go alone, okay? Trying to rescue someone rashly could be dangerous."
"Hmm." I lowered my eyes helplessly, completely in the same state I was in front of my guardian. While admitting my mistake, I couldn't help but make a pretext, "I know... but I was just too angry at the time, seeing my classmate being treated unfairly..."
"..."
The young man squinted slightly.
He seemed to want to say something, and he certainly should have said something to express his opinion and suggestions; that's Gavin's persona.
But that's not the character of Barty Jr.
He just sighed softly.
For some reason, I found his sigh strange.
"Then that's settled. Claire, if there's anything you need me to do, just let me know." He said, then laughed, a different kind of laugh than usual. It wasn't exactly gentle; I even felt that the young man's laugh carried an aggressive edge, an uncomfortable, dark emotion.
However, this is more real than ever before.
In fact, he became easier to approach at this point.
I think.
"I will always support Claire."
The young man said this with a smile that was not gentle.
