Chapter 72 Leaving the Forbidden Forest

Gratitude welled up in the unicorn's eyes. It seemed to realize what had happened before anyone else present. It first turned its head and murmured in one direction, then looked gently at Claire, who had taken a few steps back, to express its thanks.

The creature's vibrant performance was undeniable; the mysterious potion that appeared out of nowhere had successfully saved it.

It swayed slightly and slowly walked back into the depths of the forbidden forest.

Claire finally smiled faintly, no longer looking tense, and became the gentle and resolute classmate that Harry knew.

"I don't know what happened," Claire breathed a sigh of relief, glancing at the unicorn a few more times with a hint of joy, "but for now, everything is alright."

Harry's forehead pain had lessened, but the prolonged pain had left him temporarily exhausted, pale and weak. He glanced at Ferrenze from time to time, then turned his gaze to Claire, a strange premonition making him hope that someone could give him an explanation.

The centaurs were unaware of the specifics of what had happened, but they were relieved that the unicorn had survived, and their hostility towards the humans present lessened somewhat.

“A sign from the planets…” a sorrowful centaur Ronan whispered, “one darkness being swallowed by another darkness.”

"Enough." The impatient centaur Bane interrupted Ronan, looking at Ferenze. "Since they're alright, let's leave quickly. We shouldn't have come in the first place."

"Didn't that just prove even more that we should have come? No matter what you think, I will stand with humanity." Ferenze's tone was very unpleasant.

There were too many people here, and that bright light would definitely attract others. The centaur Ferrenze ignored Bane and Ronan, glanced at Draco who hadn't stood up yet, picked up the still-unresponsive Harry, and ignored the fierce objections of the remaining two centaurs, and took the lead.

The two centaurs, for reasons unknown, clearly had no desire to associate with the remaining humans and simply left. However, Ronan was kinder and told Claire Hagrid that he would be there soon.

“You’ll be alright,” Ronan said, offering a well-intentioned piece of advice in light of the unicorn’s survival.

"What?" Draco was incredulous, utterly bewildered that the centaurs had only carried Harry away. "They just left like that?"

"They even took that stinky scarred guy with them, but left us here..." Draco was furious. In just one night, he had experienced too many terrifying moments, and this emotional outburst gave him a bit of energy back.

Claire, with her keener and more agile senses, thanked him sincerely, went back, and tried to help Draco, who was still sitting on the ground, to his feet.

Now only the two of them are left.

"Malfoy, how's your foot?" Claire asked. The potion she gave Draco was for treating external injuries. She hadn't expected so many unexpected situations before leaving the house. Draco seemed to have twisted a bone and was still sitting on the ground howling in grievance.

"It hurts..." Draco's voice trembled with pain. "We need to get out of here quickly. I need to find Madam Pomfrey. I need to tell my father that this won't end like this!"

"Wait a minute, with that loud commotion, Hagrid and the others are definitely on their way here."

Claire didn't intend to move Draco rashly, but without the centaur's deterrent, and being too close to the depths of the Forbidden Forest, there might be hidden risks. Considering Madam Pomfrey's medical skills and magic, she lowered her body and half-squatted.

"Excuse me, Mr. Malfoy, may I check this?"

In this dark and dangerous place, with only two people present, nothing would make one feel safer than Claire, who had just seemingly resisted the man in black.

Her expression and demeanor exuded an air of competence that commanded trust, naturally making her the leader. Her calm and rational words entered Draco's mind.

Draco's mind was a complete blank, his ability to think temporarily gone. His eyes were red as he watched Claire apologize, then deftly lift up his trouser leg and touch his painful ankle.

He gently ran his hand over his ankle to make sure there were no protruding ridges or gruesome wounds.

"Hmm... there shouldn't be any fractures, no obvious signs of deformity, just a little swelling. But I'm not a doctor, so I can't really tell. We should go see Mrs. Pomfrey as soon as possible. Malfoy, are you able to get up now?" Claire asked, mentally assessing what to do next. "Does Hagrid have any way to contact you?"

Draco finally remembered the spell for the red spark and quickly told Claire the incantation so she could try firing the spark and let Hagrid confirm their exact location.

Although Claire cast many spells, she did not exhaust her magic power, and she easily learned the Red Spark.

The deep night added an eeriness to the Forbidden Forest; Hagrid would probably have to wait a while to find it.

“Please give me your hand.” Claire held out her hand to Draco, lowering her center of gravity further so he could help. “There’s unicorn blood and that black-robed man’s blood here. Many animals in the Forbidden Forest are attracted to blood. To prevent any accidents, we’d better move a little further away.”

Draco hurriedly put his hand on Claire's arm, and Claire supported his hand. Because of his injured foot, Draco had to lean most of his weight on Claire, closing the distance between them.

"Is it done?" Claire asked.

Draco shivered from the lingering fear and the sudden silence around him, and couldn't help but move a little closer before speaking.

"Yes, it's okay."

Claire withstood the pressure and remained calm.

"Please be careful," she said, moving slowly but steadily as if supporting a large mannequin.

"..."

With no other distractions, the night was deep and the temperature was low, Draco's thoughts were hazy, but he instinctively leaned close to the source of warmth he was leaning against and held Claire's arm tightly.

Claire: "..."

He glanced at her without making a sound.

Fine, I'll just accept it since it's shaking like this.

Draco was so frightened that his mind was fogged up, thinking that something seemed wrong, but he couldn't bear to let go of Claire, the only person who could bring him a sense of security.

Damn it... when he gets back, he'll...

A strange, shrill bird call rang out in the distance, and Draco shuddered again, clinging tightly to Claire.

"Cheers! Cheers! Cheers!" The bird cried out suddenly.

"Ah!" Draco couldn't maintain his composure; his voice betrayed his true nature as he struggled to climb like a koala. "What was that sound? Is something else happening again?"

"It's nothing, just birds chirping."

"Hmph." Draco didn't say anything.

"Swish, swish, swish..." The sound of animals rustling through the leaves, sometimes near, sometimes far, and a shadow flashed past behind them.

"Aaaaaah, what is that?" Draco nearly jumped up, ignoring his injured foot.

"It's probably some nocturnal herbivore."

"..."

Draco didn't listen and huddled deeper into Claire's arms.

Claire: "..."

(?_? )

“It’s alright, don’t worry.” Claire’s voice broke the silence. She sighed and, for the sake of the injured, raised her wand again, casting a warming spell on the frightened Draco. “It will be alright soon, don’t be afraid.”

The warmth in his body somewhat dispelled his fear, and Draco wasn't so scared anymore. Claire's comfort reassured him.

Even he himself didn't realize how much he relied on Claire at that moment.

Damn it... wait until he gets back...

A light appeared in the distance; it was the light from the lantern Hagrid was carrying. He looked serious and hurried, anxiously searching in the direction of the spark. Claire, with her sharp eyesight, shouted in time.

"We're here!"

Hermione and Hagrid were taken aback by Claire's appearance, and even more shocked when they saw her supporting Draco.

"Claire?! What happened to you guys? Where's Harry?" Hermione rushed forward.

Claire explained the current situation in very concise terms.

"I picked up Neville's wand from the ghost, explained the situation to Professor Sprout, and then went to find Neville... I encountered Malfoy and Potter, who were attacked by a man in black robes. The centaur saved us, Potter was taken away by the centaur, and Malfoy twisted his ankle and needed to find Madam Pomfrey."

"What? Claire, are you alright?" Hermione asked, looking at Claire with concern after the conversation.

Many things were omitted in this explanation, but that's not the most important thing right now. Hagrid was so frightened that he hurriedly picked up the whimpering Draco and tried to take him to the medical wing, while Hermione nervously held Claire in her arms.

"I'm really fine, just a little tired," Claire said. "I'll tell you the details when we get back. I expect other professors will be coming later."

As Claire stepped out of the Forbidden Forest, she looked up at the sky, and the words that escaped her lips remained unspoken.

"Hmm...a planet?"
