Being a passerby in HP female protagonist fanfiction

Chapter 6 The Badger and the Eight Trigrams

Professor McGonagall paused when she pronounced my name, probably thinking about how to pronounce it properly. Fortunately, I was paying close attention the whole time and managed to tell from her slightly off-key pronunciation that it was my name.

"Lai Ming".

The noise around me grew louder; they must have realized I was a rare foreigner and were a bit curious.

I wasn't surprised at all, because I would be curious too.

I put on the Sorting Hat, and it kept whispering in my head. I remained steadfast, firmly chanting "Hufflepuff," unaffected by the Sorting Hat's influence.

"Alright, then... Hufflepuff!"

As I wished, after some back and forth with the Sorting Hat, I was sorted into Hufflepuff House.

I was so happy I wanted to jump for joy! Hufflepuff used to be my favorite house, so how could I not be excited to be in my dream house now!

I happily walked towards the badger cubs, basking in their friendly welcome.

Great!

As expected, everyone was assigned to their chosen college afterward.

When Willotte Gaunt was called, just like when Harry Potter was called, everyone couldn't help but whisper among themselves.

"There are so many celebrities this year," I heard someone next to me say.

Indeed, not only are there many celebrities, but Hogwarts and you are all about to suffer a lot, first Quirrell and then the Basilisk.

I thought to myself to myself.

As expected, Willotte Gaunt was sorted into Slytherin, and the Slytherin erupted in cheers.

After confirming that I had transmigrated into a female-centric fanfiction of Harry Potter, I decided to give up, a desire that reached its peak when I was assigned to Hufflepuff.

I'm not a very risk-averse person. I don't want to participate in the original storyline or the fanfiction storyline. If possible, I just want to be a passerby and live a normal life until graduation.

In fan fiction, all the potential conflicts have been resolved, so I don't need to worry about saving anyone. Willow will become the third Dark Lord, and her methods are far more sophisticated than Voldemort's. She won't antagonize Dumbledore. In fact, even in fan fiction, Dumbledore can't do anything about Willow because she doesn't have dangerous ideologies, but rather extreme ambitions. Her organization is positive and hasn't caused any panic.

Another important reason is that I'm not sure why I traveled through time. The mysterious letter sender who prepared everything for me, whatever his purpose, must be related to either the main characters or the plot, or to myself.

Staying away from the main characters will save me a lot of trouble, so I've decided to become a complete nobody.

I chatted happily with the little badgers, and of course, I didn't forget the persona I had established on the train. After chatting for a while, I pretended to be bad at talking and had poor English, and listened to the little badgers gossip with a smile.

A little badger said I was cute.

I blushed and said that everyone was truly adorable.

After dinner, everyone in Hufflepuff quickly became familiar with each other, and we were filled with laughter and chatter, occasionally greeting the ghosts.

Dumbledore announced some precautions, especially emphasizing that we should not go to the right-hand corridor on the fourth floor, but he did not explain why, leaving it vague. I sensed that several Gryffindors were getting restless.

It's no wonder that some people think Dumbledore is cunning because of this kind of fishing-style storytelling.

After dinner, we followed our respective house groups to the common room, where the Hufflepuff prefects taught us how to tap the bottom of the second-to-last barrel in the second row of a set of large wooden barrels with a specific rhythm. The prefects also patiently told us that if we tapped the wrong barrel, someone would pour vinegar on us, so we had to be careful, and if we couldn't remember the rhythm, we should wait for other students who knew how to tap to return.

I memorized the tapping rhythm very carefully, since the vinegar smell was really strong.

After entering the warm Hufflepuff lounge, we went to our respective dorm rooms to collect our belongings. After washing up, my roommates all fell asleep, exhausted. I also lay on my bed, staring at a corner of the bed curtains.

My body was exhausted, but my mind was exhilarated. I recalled everything that had happened after I traveled through time, and thought about the days to come. Then I slowly closed my eyes.

No matter what, even if the sky falls, sleeping is the best option.

The next morning, the four of us in the dorm hurriedly got ready, grabbed our textbooks, and went to class.

The first class at Hogwarts starts at nine o'clock, but since it's the beginning of the semester, we have to arrive much earlier because the prefect specifically warned us that it's easy to be late for the first class because we can't find the classroom, so everyone should be careful.

Speaking of being late, we can't help but mention poor Harry Potter. His lateness to Professor McGonagall's Transfiguration class and being targeted in Professor Snape's Potions class have spread to a small extent in Hufflepuff. This is mainly because everyone is still very curious about this rumored savior and can't help but discuss him.

Everyone thought Professor Snape was fierce, and at least in that respect, Harry was a bit pitiful.

Then there's Willow Gaunt, another notable figure. She and Hermione both successfully conjured needles in their first Transfiguration class, earning Slytherin a point. She also performed well in Potions class, even receiving unprecedented praise from Professor Snape, who reportedly gave her extra tutoring in his office for a period of time.

Yeah, not surprising, these are all common plot points in HP fanfiction.

Harry and Draco are still somewhat at odds, but things are probably a bit better than in the original books. In the books, Harry considered Draco even more annoying than Dudley, so it seems Willotte's warning to Draco had some effect.

Nevertheless, Draco still walked with an air of superiority, especially when passing Harry, he would always give him a disdainful snort.

After a serious discussion, the Hufflepuff students all agreed that Draco was a megalomaniac because he had never been friendly to the Hufflepuff students, and I agreed from the side.

As usual, things went wrong during Mrs. Hooch's flying lesson. Draco threw Neville's memory ball, and Harry went to retrieve it, inexplicably becoming the Seeker for the Gryffindor Quidditch team. This dramatic turn of events was completely unexpected, and the news only came out just before Harry was about to go on the field, at which point everyone suddenly realized what had happened.

It's worth mentioning that after they went on stage, everyone discovered that Harry wasn't the only one who had been admitted through special admission; the Slytherin team even had a first-year Chaser—Willow Gaunt.

Clearly, they did a much better job of keeping secrets than Gryffindor. Both Willotte and Harry were exceptionally fast and agile, putting a lot of pressure on the opposing team.

The appearance of these two ignited the entire stadium. The cheers and shouts from their respective colleges almost shook the sky. After the game, some people even threw curses at each other to show respect and friendship, which eventually led to the teachers having to step in to mediate.

The Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw students exclaimed how amazing it was, while I watched the spectacle with great interest.

Of course, this is something.

I'm currently attending classes diligently and practicing magic assiduously.
