Being a passerby in HP female protagonist fanfiction
Chapter 55 Young Dragon
The dragon egg incident was just a small episode in Hogwarts life. After seeing the baby dragon, everyone went back to doing what they were doing. But undeniably, the newborn baby dragon did capture our attention, and whenever we had free time, we would go to find Hagrid as a group.
I privately explained to Hermione why Willow and I had appeared at Hagrid's hut together, and apologized, but Hermione turned around and apologized to me instead.
“I know you love magical creatures, Claire, but this involves Hagrid… I’m afraid too many people will find out and we might accidentally expose ourselves…” Hermione said apologetically, her voice low.
In her view, Willotte could openly tell Claire about the dragon egg, while she couldn't, which made her feel a little sorry for their friendship.
"It's alright, it's alright." I immediately expressed my understanding and told Hermione not to take it to heart. "I only found out by chance. It's better to be cautious in this situation. Hagrid is in too much danger."
Hermione couldn't help but start complaining about Hagrid again when this was mentioned.
“Hagrid can’t keep a secret.” She expressed both concern and dissatisfaction with Hagrid’s casual disclosure of secrets. “He really should be more careful. It’s no joke if something goes wrong. Malfoy almost betrayed us. Who knows what would have happened?”
"It depends on Hagrid," I said, offering no opinion but simply sighing. "He really does like that dragon."
Hermione's headache started again, and she didn't know what to do.
Later, I would occasionally go to see the baby dragons with Hermione and the others. Willow didn't have that much time; she also had Snape's after-school detention to attend, which took up most of her free time.
On the surface, it's confinement, but in reality, it's just working for free.
With a smile, Willotte said that she had mastered the perfect techniques for peeling toad skin, insect skin, and shells.
She asked, "Do you need me to teach you?"
Me: "...If you don't mind, okay."
You can never learn too much skill, and although Willotte was smiling, there was a hint of malice in her smile. I wasn't cowardly; I just genuinely believed that craftsmen were invincible, so I didn't refuse.
Hagrid cared for the adorable and energetic baby dragon, wanting to give it all his love. He neglected his work at the hunting grounds for this, and whenever he had free time, he would read the books he had collected about how to raise Norwegian Ridgebacks. He always had brandy on hand, and he didn't complain at all, even though his little cabin was almost falling apart because of the dragon.
"Hagrid, you really should do something about it. You know it can't stay here forever."
"Let's wait a while. It's still a baby, only a few days old," Hagrid said. He had long considered himself its mother, and as he watched the baby dragon crawl toward him with its mouth wide open, he was moved to tears.
“Look, it recognizes me. Mom is here. Come quick!” Hagrid clapped his large hands.
"..."
Hermione looked at the messy, scorched house and the baby dragon, which was twice as fat as when it was born, and shut her mouth in a mixture of admiration and speechlessness.
After Draco "voluntarily" got involved, he often went to visit the young dragon, saying he disliked it, but he never missed a visit. He would hum as he looked at the dragon. He looked down on Hagrid and thought that if the dragon were in his hands, it would be better taken care of at Malfoy Manor.
“Look at this poor dragon, it just had to end up here, tsk tsk tsk... moving around in such a cramped space, hiding and unable to be seen by anyone, I don’t believe you don’t know it needs more space.”
Draco was sarcastic and cryptic, while Hagrid, with his imposing physique, dared not speak trash directly. He could only resort to indirect methods, subtly insulting the three boys in front of them.
"That's still better than you, you arrogance. You don't actually think your dad would let you raise dragons, do you?" Ron rolled his eyes. Having grown up in the wizarding world himself, and with his father's teachings, he knew that even the Malfoy family wouldn't dare to openly and illegally raise dragons like that.
As soon as Ron spoke up, Draco immediately retorted, and Harry chimed in, and the three of them started arguing again.
I always thought Draco would target Harry more, both in fanfiction and the original books. But I later realized I was wrong—Draco unconditionally targets and hates everyone he doesn't like, unless they are so powerful that he dares not touch them. Of course, such people are very rare, and Harry is just one of the people he dislikes the most.
If you only look at the arguments, he and Ron actually argue more often, especially during Quidditch matches when they're practically ready to punch each other—in fact, they do, fighting during matches. Now, with both old and new grudges combined, if it weren't for Willotte's warning, Draco would definitely have given the three kids a hard time.
"You just wait!" Draco threatened in a low voice, his tone firm and his presence imposing. It was clear that the three little ones didn't take it seriously, since he said this all the time, and there was no need to emphasize it again. They were already very wary of Draco.
When the baby dragon grew a little older, Hagrid planned to name it. Draco seemed eager to get involved and, with a sour face, criticized the name Hagrid had suggested.
"I really don't know what you're thinking. This is a dragon, a noble dragon! And you named it like this?"
Draco tried to take away Hagrid's naming rights, but failed. Hagrid refused to give in, and the young dragon was eventually named Norbert. It had grown quite large, with sharp teeth and increasingly hard spines on its back. Clearly, Hagrid's house was about to become too small for it. In the dead of night, Hagrid would take Norbert for a walk, but this was not a long-term solution.
Just as Hermione said, Hagrid couldn't keep Norbert here forever.
They've now started discussing how to get rid of Norber.
After seeing the baby dragons a few times, I returned to my busy academic life.
Final exams are coming up soon, time to start reviewing.
The plot is exciting, but it only takes up a small part of life. You might feel tense and excited while experiencing it, but life goes on afterward.
well:-(.
I immersed myself in the ocean of learning, trying to fill my brain with knowledge, but unfortunately the results were minimal. The subjects I was good at were okay, but the subjects I was bad at were simply indescribable.
A thick history book on the development of the magical world is piled on the table. The thicker it is, the shorter my life will be. Judging by its thickness, I probably won't live to see the end of the semester.
