Being a passerby in HP female protagonist fanfiction
Chapter 34 Promote
Draco was probably terrified by Willotte.
That's how I judged it in my heart.
Otherwise, how do you explain Draco suddenly stopping me, saying he wanted to be friends with me, and even shaking my hand?
It really looks like a horror story.
I thought to myself for a moment. When Draco first stopped me, I thought it was because I had been discovered to be secretly damaging Slytherin's reputation while also trying to sow discord between Willow and me, and I was trying to figure out how to save myself.
For the sake of a peaceful campus life, I decided to do something. Just as I've repeatedly emphasized before, rushing in directly would be quite ineffective and foolish. I have to start from somewhere else. My status and strength are not yet sufficient to participate directly.
Hogwarts needs someone who can keep the entire Slytherin under control, preventing them from making any big moves or openly bullying them.
This suppression is best maintained from within Slytherin itself to be effective for a long time; teachers and headmasters won't do it, only the students themselves can.
The only student I know who can suppress Slytherin is, without a doubt, Willotte Gaunt.
Please, this is the protagonist of a female-centric fanfiction, a third-generation Dark Lord, and a descendant of Slytherin. Fanfiction usually includes scenes of bullying Slytherin, I just brought that scene forward.
It only takes a little push.
Spreading rumors to deepen Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw's hatred of Slytherin and ruin Slytherin's reputation—it sounds difficult, but it's actually quite simple, because Slytherin's reputation is already so bad that I don't need to ruin it.
I simply told the badgers and eagles to be careful lately and not to go out alone. The situation gradually escalated, creating a dangerous atmosphere.
Danger breeds vigilance.
Willotte has made many friends in all four houses, placed bets everywhere, and has a wide network of connections. Her good reputation is the first step in recruiting subordinates and talents.
Having always cultivated relationships, she would naturally sense the subtle aversion other houses had towards Slytherin immediately. This aversion would definitely affect Willow's own interests. Connections are an invisible resource, and what Willow seeks is power, so—she would step in to resolve it.
In addition, when studying with Willow, I subtly pointed out that some of the Slytherin jokes were inappropriate, which made everyone a little scared, so I tried to put a bad word to Willow.
I don't know if it will work, but when you're acting, you have to go all the way.
In fanfiction, this is roughly the general trend, proceeding step by step without any major errors. The direction is as expected, and most of the Slytherins have indeed become much more obedient after being reprimanded.
Draco must have been reprimanded as well, but his reaction after being reprimanded was really strange.
Perhaps influenced by fan fiction, Draco's manner of speaking really does resemble that of a weasel with its head held high, exuding an inexplicable sense of superiority.
“I knew it. No one could refuse to be Malfoy’s friend.”
"..." I gave a polite but awkward smile.
Yes, yes, everything you said is right.
Otherwise, am I supposed to openly reject you and then wait to end up like Harry, being targeted by you, subjected to your sarcastic remarks, and besieged by your people?
I'm not stupid.
I was genuinely surprised when Draco reached out his hand, and it took me a moment to mentally reciprocate.
I don't know why Draco's expression was a little strange when we shook hands, but we let go after only a few seconds, so I didn't pay much attention. The feeling of handshakes as a form of physical contact is always a bit odd, but Draco seemed to like using it to show goodwill.
"If you ever need anything, you can come to me. Malfoy won't mistreat his friends." Draco squinted, his face serious, probably trying to project an air of authority, but I bet he'd forgotten he was still just a kid. That expression on his face only made me want to laugh.
“Of course, if I have any requests later, you must fulfill them for me.” Draco lowered his voice.
This request finally fits the character's persona, and it also gave me a rough idea of Draco's purpose. He probably thinks that I have a good relationship with Willotte and is using me as a breakthrough point for Willotte, hoping to cause some trouble through me.
If that's really the reason, then he's miscalculated. I'm not important to Willotte, and I haven't been involved in any of Willotte's actions at Hogwarts.
However, given Draco's obvious desire to show friendliness, I certainly won't refuse. As for what happens next, I can only wait and see. If all else fails, I can just tell Willotte and see what she wants me to do.
Only after I finally got rid of Draco did I relax my straight back.
Turns out I was actually quite nervous, I thought to myself with a bitter laugh.
Draco had already left. I waited there for a while, and soon after, several anxious-looking badger cubs came running over.
It happened very quickly; Draco and I didn't actually talk for very long.
"Claire, are you alright?" the little badger asked, its eyes brimming with tears. "Did that Slytherin bully you?"
"It's nothing, don't worry." I quickly explained, "Malfoy didn't do anything to me. He said a few words and left. It's nothing serious."
I quickly comforted the frightened badger. The scare I had given them a while ago had left them feeling uneasy, and they were afraid that something might happen to me too.
I had told the little badger next to me to go first, just in case something happened, so I could find some help, but I specifically told him not to call on the older students.
Thankfully, nothing really happened.
Surrounded by several badger cubs, we arrived at the canteen together, ready to eat something to warm ourselves up.
It was lunchtime, later than usual, but there were quite a few people at the Hufflepuff table. Susan was in the middle, and when she saw me, her eyes lit up. She quickly came over and pulled me to sit down at the table.
"Listen up, everyone! Let's cheer each other on for the Quidditch match!" Susan rallied everyone, then sidled up to me. "Don't worry, Claire, we've already made the banner."
The Gryffindor banner we saw last time inspired us: even if we lose, we can't lose face. We little badgers had already planned to make a beautiful banner for the Hufflepuff Quidditch team.
"I heard that Mr. Snape will be the referee for this competition," Susan said, making a face that looked like she had a toothache.
She is incredibly well-informed, standing out among the many Hufflepuffs. I learned most of my gossip and information from her.
“Mr. Snape hates Gryffindor like a mouse sees a cat, so he’ll definitely give us Hufflepuffs penalty kicks,” Susan analyzed. “Although it’s not fair, it increases our chances of winning.”
The little badgers discussed the upcoming Quidditch match amongst themselves. Gryffindor's Seeker, Harry, was too fast, putting too much pressure on the Hufflepuff Seeker, and their chances of winning were still not optimistic.
I listened quietly from the side, relaxed, and felt the shadow from before dissipate.
Everyday life is definitely the best.
