Chapter 167 The Lesson in Protecting Magical Creatures
Soon it was time for the class on protecting magical creatures.
Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw had their second lesson, while Slytherin and Gryffindor had their first. This meant that I wasn't with Harry and Willow, but with Willow around, the others couldn't cause much trouble.
I have a pretty good relationship with Hagrid. I went to him before to ask how to grow giant pumpkins. During our chat, I also got his recipe for rock cakes. Although I still don't know who can eat them, I'm still trying to improve them.
Before the Fantastic Beasts Protection class began, I suggested to Hagrid that he remember to take safety precautions and not to let everyone try out powerful and sensitive magical creatures right away.
Of course, considering that Hagrid might not listen to direct advice, or even if he did, disputes might still arise if the animal was different, I also reminded Willotte to be careful.
That's enough of a reminder. If Draco Malfoy gets injured because of this, he only has himself to blame.
I started to adjust my mindset and stop trying to be perfect in every aspect.
Once you get used to telling others what to do, you might carry that mindset with you forever... And some things you only gain experience through going through them. Hagrid's professionalism is beyond question, but his safety awareness needs to be emphasized. Draco scared him a few times and he became more obedient. With Willow by his side, he probably wouldn't dare to be so arrogant.
Of course, the most important reason that prompted me to try to change my mindset was that I was too busy.
What am I busy doing? — I'm busy practicing combination spells with Astra.
"Dust combined with sparks will explode. We can research a large-scale sandstorm spell, enough to envelop the entire building, and then set off the timed fireworks that Weasley and his team researched beforehand... to make something like a timed bomb?"
[Minglai, are you finally planning to attack the Ministry of Magic?]
Astra's eyes were filled with what she thought was exactly what she expected.
I have no guilt whatsoever.
"Studying magic requires exploring possibilities."
It's just researching large-scale explosion spells; it's just a small thing I, as a research wizard, should do.
However, this makes it impossible to experiment in Hogwarts or the luggage room.
Throughout history, it's no wonder that wizards have conceived of large-scale damage spells, but such spells are extremely unstable and could even backfire on the wizard. Moreover, the public doesn't approve of such spells, and many are classified as extremely dangerous magic.
As for myself, I have neither the means nor the intention to perform such a spell.
Hagrid's first Magical Creatures class was a complete success. Although there were some mishaps, it was still a good one. I packed my things and prepared to go to Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw's first Magical Creatures Protection class.
Considering that some students might get injured, I specially prepared some healing potions and ropes on my person.
Do I need to come along?
"No, no need. You should hurry up and figure out how to get yourself out." I refused Astra's request to come along, telling him to rest a little longer, and thoughtfully indicated that I felt the suitcase was a bit small.
Astra: [...]
This explicit statement is somewhat redundant.
Astra closed the book reluctantly and refused to communicate, but after I left, he still diligently began modifying the suitcase.
Oh, I'll bring him a few more books next time.
I shook my head.
Regardless of the original intention, it is always depressing to turn a perfectly healthy and promising young person into a book. I have always paid close attention to Astra's mental health, and I would bring him some snacks from time to time to see if I could fit them in his mouth. I collected interesting books from all over the place, shared jokes with him, and started looking for materials to rebuild the alchemy table.
Wizards tend to act impulsively when they get excited, and considering Astra's previous stress, it's best to avoid places where there might be conflict and a lot of people.
I asked Astra if he was bored, and his answer was—it's all the same.
I don't know exactly when he arrived, but according to Astra himself, he had gotten used to being alone.
No one truly needs anyone else. It's a cold statement, but coming from Astra, I don't quite believe it. I really think he's hiding something big for me.
At the very least, he must be hiding something.
If you can't get an answer from the questions, there's no need to ask. It's precisely because the information is incomplete that you need to be prepared for multiple scenarios.
Hagrid's classes are held next to his hut, and the first challenge he faces is the monster book of monsters... Sometimes I really admire the wizarding world's carefree attitude. They show contradictions in many ways. On the one hand, almost everyone values the safety of young wizards, but on the other hand, they are always so uninhibited when it comes to learning magic.
This is probably the unavoidable contradiction in education: learning and safety cannot always be balanced.
Like everyone else, I tied a rope to the Yokai Book and, following Hagrid's instructions, smoothed it down, successfully calming it down.
Yokai Book: "Gagaga... Hey, who's scratching me..."
The monster book fell into a comfortable silence, showing no trace of its previous ferocious appearance.
Some students are prejudiced against Hagrid, but the atmosphere in Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw has always been good, so no one causes trouble.
Hagrid chuckled.
When I went to the auditorium for lunch after class, I saw Ginny. She was sitting alone in a corner, engrossed in reading.
When I greeted them, I glanced at the book's title; it was an overview of Quidditch match techniques throughout history.
I did very well in all other classes, but my flying class was quite ordinary. I remained expressionless when I saw Ginny. Her eyes lit up when she saw me, and she immediately put down her book and hopped over to me like a little bird.
You can already see that Ginny has great athletic talent. Just standing in front of her, her healthy, sunny aura is like the sun, warming you up.
"Claire! Claire!" she called out happily, then, as if suddenly realizing she had been a little too excited, she blushed slightly and changed the subject, "Senior, how are your elective courses going?"
Following Ginny's lead, I introduced her to some magical creatures and told her that divination and fortune-telling were very difficult.
“Fortune telling…” Ginny muttered. Ron had really been startled last time, and he exaggerated it even more in front of his younger sister.
I patted Ginny's head to comfort her, for having a bunch of unreliable brothers.
I guess I got carried away with the conversation, because I clenched my fist and gently waved it in front of Ginny.
"Guess if it's a cookie or a flower inside?"
The clenched hands didn't reveal anything, but Ginny answered my joke very seriously. She sniffed the air and answered hesitantly.
"Are they flowers?"
"Ding ding ding! Correct answer." I opened my palm, and there lay a beautiful little white chrysanthemum, still glistening with dew, every petal intact. "As a reward for clever Ginny! I've decided to give you both."
With her other hand, she pulled out a bag of cookies, the cardboard bag tied with a gold ribbon, and a rich aroma suddenly wafted out. She handed it to the stunned Ginny.
I personally put that little white chrysanthemum on Ginny's hair, carefully securing it to her hair to adorn her shimmering red hair.
Ginny knew all the tricks of the trade. As I demonstrated, it was just a simple magic trick, and the things given were all very ordinary, but…
but.
Why was she trembling? She felt a pair of hands gently pressing on her head, carefully leaving the flower behind. The flower must have been treated with magic right after it was picked; she could only smell its delicate fragrance, which lingered around her nose as if she had been gently kissed.
Ginny blinked, feeling dizzy.
"It looks great," I said with a smile.
The prize is given to the child she likes... No matter what Ginny chooses, she will eventually receive a gift.
