Chapter 14 Quidditch Matches and Victories
My persistent probing of Xiaoming has finally yielded results, which is truly commendable.
Let's give them a round of applause to celebrate.
Although the little information I received didn't change my current situation much, it was still a bit better after talking about it. At least Xiaoming's teaching was more responsible—according to him, he himself wasn't that clear about it. His initial setting was to make me live well, but to try not to let me know too much at once, and to wait for a period of time before he would get the information.
In summary, Xiaoming knows a lot, but this is all temporary. He will only know what he needs to do at a certain point in time.
"Does 'waiting for a while' refer to the degree to which I integrate into this world?" I asked.
【Yes. 】
It feels like game information is unlocked for a limited time, and Xiaoming is a low-end system that passively receives information and tasks, which are then distributed to me.
I made this connection without any basis.
As it stands, the person behind this doesn't seem to have any ill intentions towards me; on the contrary, they prioritize my well-being. Of course, anything can happen in the future, and there might be a huge conspiracy waiting for me. Right now, they're just trying to lower my guard, although I feel that even if I remain vigilant, there's not much I can do.
Just now, I can trust Xiaoming a little more.
I really want to keep arranging things and put all this nonsense behind me.
But that’s not the end of the story.
"Then, please teach me the Occupation Meditation technique," I said to Xiaoming.
I've already added the Occlumency mantra to my list of essential mantras. Since I don't have a Pensieve, I can only practice under the guidance of my classmate Xiaoming. I don't know how effective it will be, but I definitely need to practice it.
"If possible, could you teach me how to use armor to protect you, and how to petrify and heal all your weapons?" I wrote down a long string of spells in one breath.
It's time to start a new learning journey.
Although I may not be able to learn them, I'd better get to know them as soon as possible. It's not entirely out of concern for my own safety; I just really like spells.
I recalled the spells I had already mastered: the Levitation Spell, the Cleansing Spell, the Fluorescent Spell, the Clear Water Spell, and various other miscellaneous spells for everyday life.
I usually spend more time learning to cast spells than others, but once I master it, my familiarity with it is higher and my stability is greater than that of ordinary people.
This might be because I lack comprehension, and the wand core is made of phoenix feathers.
I am once again immersed in the ocean of learning.
The Quidditch match was about to begin, and Hogwarts was inevitably getting restless; even Susan and Hannah were a little nervous.
We chatted in the Hufflepuff common room.
"Claire, do you think Hufflepuff can win this time?" Hannah was a little frustrated. She had heard from her seniors that Hufflepuff always came in last place.
“It’s okay, whether we win or lose, Hufflepuff is the same,” I said. “No one will blame us, Hufflepuff will always be the best in my heart.”
I gave a serious thumbs up, which successfully made the little badger next to me laugh. We all joking around and squeezing together. Honestly, I really love this kind of atmosphere.
The little badgers were just a little conflicted, since everyone wanted their academy to be better, but seeing our relatively scarce academy points, they were relieved and started playing.
We unanimously decided that no matter how the Hufflepuff team performs, we'd celebrate and treat ourselves to something delicious. When we get to the field, we won't lose face; we'll cheer for our own school!
When Hufflepuff Quidditch captain Fernando learned of this small decision, he was deeply moved and vowed to do his best, as evidenced by their recent intense training sessions.
I had a feeling how exciting the Quidditch match would be, and as someone who doesn't play many ball games, I realized I had underestimated the passion and sportsmanship of the British fans.
The day before the match, Hermione complained to me that Snape had taken away the Quidditch Origins book she had lent to Harry. She seemed a little worried, but I knew what had happened and didn't ask any more questions.
To my surprise, Willotte came to me specifically to tell me that she had been promoted to Slytherin's Chaser.
"..."
I fell into deep thought. Having read fan fiction, I knew exactly what was going on.
So why are you telling me this? That's what I want to ask.
“Because we’re good friends, I thought about it and decided I should tell you.” Willotte’s eyes sparkled, and I suspected she was putting on a cute little sister persona in front of me. “I hope Claire can cheer me on during the Slytherin vs. Gryffindor match.”
"……OK."
It's nothing, I agreed.
The next day, at breakfast, everyone was excitedly discussing the day's match, unable to stop talking. Harry was so nervous he couldn't eat anything, but I didn't pay much attention. Willow, however, looked at me across several house tables and even winked secretly.
Responding is a matter of politeness, so I stiffly returned a wink.
⊙_<.
The first match was Gryffindor versus Slytherin. The flames between these two houses were about to ignite, each staring at the other with hostility, rubbing their hands together as if they were about to start a great battle between a lion and a snake.
Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw were watching the game, and we even brought binoculars.
Hermione and Ron held up a huge banner to cheer for Harry, while a distraught Draco nervously cursed Potter from the stands.
When Harry appeared, Gryffindor cheered. When Willow appeared in the Slytherin group, the entire stadium erupted in cheers and incredulous gasps. From a distance, I could even hear a Gryffindor swearing loudly.
While the Slytherins were also surprised (which shows how well they kept their secret), they were still smug and sarcastic in front of the Gryffindors, using elegant and venomous language rarely seen in the world. Draco was also at the forefront of the argument, and his platinum blonde hair was hard to miss.
Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, standing nearby, didn't dare to say a word, but silently watched the show.
Later, someone somehow recorded their argument, compiled it into a booklet, and sold it under the title "How to Argue Elegantly Like a Slytherin."
The game began, and they quickly took to the air, spread out their formations, and launched fierce attacks on each other, with Willotte leading the charge as the chaser.
In general, chasing players are prone to physical altercations, requiring a high level of physique, endurance, and strength, but Willotte is different.
As a first-year student, she was certainly not as physically imposing as her opponent, but in terms of agility, she completely outclassed her.
To paraphrase commentator Jordan, "It's as slippery as a water snake in a black lake."
Willow never directly confronts Gryffindor's Chaser; instead, she always rushes out from some tricky angle to intercept the Ghostball or disrupt her opponent. She is extremely fast and can leave in an instant.
Even when surrounded by Gryffindor, she was able to maneuver and draw her opponents' attention.
With Willow's attack and assistance, Slytherin scored one goal after another, quickly widening the gap with Gryffindor.
The cheers from Slytherin had drowned out those from Gryffindor, and the green flags were practically a sea of color.
The Gryffindor players looked very grim, especially Wood, whose face was terrifyingly dark, as could be seen through the binoculars.
Finally, the most exciting part arrived: the Golden Snitch appeared, and Harry shot out like a bullet, his exceptional talent for flying allowing him to get closer to the Golden Snitch even faster.
Gryffindor seemed to come alive again; they erupted in shouts, raised their red and gold banners, and vowed to bury Slytherin.
Next, Harry's broom went out of control, just like in the plot. Quirrell and Snape struggled to break free, and then Hermione set Snape's robes on fire, interrupting Quirrell's spellcasting.
Harry, with his unwavering willpower and a bit of luck, caught the Golden Snitch with his mouth, and the whole audience was shocked when he spat it out.
The match has now ended.
Gryffindor beat Slytherin 160-140, Gryffindor wins.
Even though I already knew the plot, I was still caught up in the atmosphere of the Quidditch match, and my heart involuntarily tightened. I took a deep breath the moment the result was announced.
I looked towards the Slytherin team, and Willow looked up at me. I gave her a reassuring smile.
I couldn't see very clearly from this distance, but for some reason I felt that Willotte was stunned when she saw me smile.
