Being a passerby in HP female protagonist fanfiction
Chapter 12 Draco and Double the Rumors
The troll saga lasted for some time.
All four colleges are just watching the drama unfold, while I'm still studying.
"Harry Potter is amazing... no wonder he's the savior." These are some of Harry's fans.
"All cleaned up!" That's me practicing my spells.
"You never really see Ron like that normally; he's surprisingly reliable when it counts." This was a sentiment expressed by some Gryffindors (including Ron's brother).
“Cultivation of Mandrake…” This is me when I’m studying herbal medicine.
"Gaunt is amazing! She can even use such a powerful spell!" These were Willotte's biggest fans.
"Hmm, the recipe for White Dew Essence is..." This is me thinking about how to concoct a magic potion.
"Gaunt is the most powerful. Weasley only used a Levitation Charm, but she used Swift Binding!" This was from some Slytherin members who were trying to put people down. "Those two, one scarred and one penniless, how can they compare to pure-blood Gaunt?"
"How could you say that!" Gryffindor confronted Slytherin angrily.
The Slytherins next to me were putting each other down, the Gryffindors were arguing, and I was studying—no, I should say I was studying when these people suddenly came up next to me and started arguing.
Me: I've never seen excitement come to me on its own.
I looked down at the book I hadn't turned a single page of, "The History of Magic in the 18th Century," but my ears were quietly perking up.
"Am I wrong? It's obvious that Gaunt is the best. Those two just barged in recklessly. With Gaunt's skill, there's no need for them to be there." The platinum-blonde Slytherin was a master of sarcasm, not giving an inch.
“Gaunt herself said that she defeated the troll with Harry and the others, so what nonsense are you spouting! Does she even know you're talking about her behind her back?”
"Heh, no matter what, what right do you have to shout like that? That scarred guy was probably trembling with fear back then, what savior?"
"you……"
I listened with great interest. After they argued for a while, Gryffindor was defeated due to insufficient numbers, while the Slytherin members stood there celebrating their victory and hadn't left yet.
I pretended to turn a page.
As it turns out, it's best to keep your distance when you're watching the drama unfold; getting too close can easily lead to trouble.
"Hey."
A sinister voice sounded beside me. I stiffly raised my head, trying to keep my gaze from lingering on Draco Malfoy's platinum blonde hair, which was coated with a lethal amount of hairspray.
Draco Malfoy is the character whose fan-created settings have been the most numerous.
In the original books, he has a rat-like face (described only from Harry's perspective in the original books) and a mean-spirited appearance. However, in fan fiction, Draco is a handsome, cute, and sarcastic young master with platinum blonde hair.
Her image has changed quite a bit.
Some Harry Potter fans say that the fan-made Draco is so different from the original Draco that it's like they have reproductive barriers.
The only thing they have in common in terms of appearance is that they are both very thin.
And now I've been caught by Draco while I was watching the show.
"Is there something you need?" I asked.
"You just now, weren't you..." Draco glared at me, but his eyes quickly shifted to confusion, "You..."
"You're the Hufflepuff that Gaunt likes so much?" Draco asked, somewhat uncertainly, looking me up and down with suspicion.
I:"……"
Me: "Sorry, what?"
My brain is a bit stuck. What did Draco just say?
I believe I only maintained normal and friendly interactions with Willotte, so how did I become Hufflepuff, whom Willotte really likes?
“This is the first time I’ve seen Gaunt treat someone like this,” Draco’s eyes became critical. “I wonder what’s so special about you.”
Perhaps out of consideration for Willotte, Draco surprisingly refrained from making a direct, sarcastic remark (I know he doesn't like Hufflepuffs), and simply looked at me with disbelief.
Wait, Draco, don't spread rumors! Don't you know that the tone you just used sounded just like the butler of a domineering CEO in a melodramatic novel?!
I don't know where Draco's misconceptions came from, and I really want to have a serious talk with him about it.
First, Willow was friendly to all Hufflepuff students, knowing that Hufflepuffs were numerous and an important part of Hogwarts.
Secondly, Willow's approach to me must be for her own benefit or for some other purpose. She is the future Dark Lord, and she kills people without any emotion, relying entirely on technique.
Finally, Willow and I only see each other two or three times a week at most. I've stumbled upon Gryffindor and Slytherin students taunting each other more often than that!
Although I was internally debating the situation, since Draco was present, his two tall and burly henchmen behind him were bound to be there as well. Surrounded by three Slytherins, I decided to be pragmatic.
"Is that so?" I said, my eyes dead.
Draco seemed even more dissatisfied, but in the end he didn't say anything, and as usual he just snorted and left.
I didn't pay attention to that, packed up my books, and left in a flash.
The troll thing is over, and now everyone's attention is gradually being drawn to the Quidditch matches in November.
The news that Harry had become the Seeker for the Gryffindor team had been leaked, shocking everyone and making Harry famous once again.
Hermione complained to me that Harry was so focused on Quidditch training that he couldn't even study, and she had to sacrifice her own time to tutor them.
Since my grades reached my minimum acceptable level, I haven't bothered Hermione anymore, but we still occasionally study together.
Of all the people who couldn't believe it, Draco was definitely the most devastated. He simply couldn't accept that the scarred man he hated most had easily accomplished what he wanted to do, not to mention that he had personally handed over this opportunity.
It's visibly that Draco's frequency of arguing in the cafeteria has increased dramatically, each time starting with a smug look and ending in a fit of rage.
I was enjoying watching the drama unfold on the sidelines, and of course, I learned from my previous mistake and kept my distance.
Watching the drama unfold remotely!
But what I didn't expect was that even after all that, I would still be betrayed.
“You seem to really like Malfoy,” Willotte said one day.
I put down the snacks in my hand, looking on incredulously.
what?
I don't understand why Willotte would go to the trouble of walking around from the Slytherin table to the Hufflepuff table during mealtime just to say that one sentence.
Does this make sense?
Besides, did I enjoy watching Malfoy? I enjoyed watching gossip!
I asked her why she said that.
"I'm sorry, that was a bit abrupt." Willotte's fair face flushed slightly, and her long eyelashes trembled. "Ever since I met you, I've wanted to be your friend. I'm so glad we can study together."
"But I don't know why I always feel like there's a bit of a distance between us, Claire. I really enjoy being with you, but I'm also afraid that you'll find me annoying." Willow turned her face away, seemingly embarrassed, only revealing her slightly red neck.
I:"……"
Me: "So..."
"...I've noticed you're always looking at Malfoy." Willotte, still a cute 12-year-old girl, looked into my eyes, her tone inexplicably aggrieved. "I just wanted to ask, do you not like me...or, Claire, do you actually like him more..."
Help!
I was dumbfounded.
Willott Gaunt, I'm sorry, it's all my fault. I underestimated your imagination.
