Iya Continent: Card God

Chapter 19 The Rat Gang

Linta and his group were already ten miles away from Shankan City.

The area where it was located has also transformed into mountains and forests, lush and green.

Beneath the lush greenery lurks a deadly trap.

“Young Master Jim, is this the one?” asked a man with an ugly appearance, protruding front teeth, and a weathered face.

The man standing next to him, Jim Maggie, was a world apart from him. From his clothes and eyes to his demeanor, it was hard to imagine the two of them standing together.

“These are the few,” Jim Maggie said coldly, with a hint of anger in his voice.

The kidnapping of Jenny Helland by the Wild Wolves was something she planned and hired herself. She asked her father for permission to handle it, and her father, Dorn, agreed, allowing her to hire the Wild Wolves.

Dorn Magee himself had no intention of kidnapping Miss Jenny. The plan was utterly ridiculous to him.

Jim Maggie, however, thought that capturing Jenny Herland and then threatening her father, Lear, to sell the mining rights was a good choice. Full of confidence, he enlisted the help of his vice-captain, Fang Wolf, to ambush and capture her.

In the end, it was ruined by these few inexplicable guys.

"They're all wearing magic-suppressing rings and can't use magic. You guys aren't like the Wild Wolf Bandits, are you?" Jim Maggie said coldly.

Although Linta and his group were using various methods to hide the magic-suppressing rings, the Maggie family had already learned of this.

“Young Master Jim, you’re underestimating us. Our ‘Rat Gang’ isn’t some trash like the Wild Wolf Bandits.” The bandit with the ugly front teeth said.

He was naturally the leader of the Rat Gang.

Although it only has the strength of a high-level Bronze, the combined strength of the entire Rat Gang is enough to kill even a low-level Silver.

The leader of the rat gang plucked a leaf from a nearby bush, rolled the green leaf into a half-roll, put it in his mouth, and blew it out with a deep breath, creating the sound of birdsong echoing through the mountains.

The people on their way also heard the "birdsong".

“That bird sound? How strange,” Pinecone, the bear-man, suddenly said.

Jin Gong said nonchalantly, "What's so strange about birdsong?"

Pinecone said, "I can't understand what this bird is saying. It sounds like... humans are reciting unrelated words."

Shia's eyes narrowed, and her steps slowed.

Linta looked at the elven girl, "What's wrong?"

Shia's silvery-white hair fluttered in the mountain breeze, her bangs flowing freely. Her eyes darted from side to side, now filled with sharpness.

"There's an ambush."

Linta's eyes widened, and she was about to look around when Shia stopped her, saying, "Don't look around, keep walking."

Shia's slow pace returned to normal.

Linta dared not look around, understanding Shia's meaning. The enemy lurking in the shadows was watching them; if they acted too strangely, they would know they had been discovered.

"Shia, what's going on?"

Sheila said coldly, "The other party is probably making a bird-like sound by blowing leaves. This kind of sound is used to alert nearby accomplices, to signal preparation, commencement, attack, and so on."

Jingong suddenly realized, "That's why Pinecone Bear couldn't understand; it doesn't understand bird language at all. It just took the sound as a warning."

"How many enemies are there? Where exactly are they?" Linta asked.

Shia's eyes narrowed; she had been sensing and perceiving the strangeness from the very beginning.

"I'm not sure how many enemies there are, but there should be no fewer than thirty. They are scattered in the mountains and forests along the road ahead."

“Thirty people?” Linta’s throat tightened.

My thoughts raced. We, the few who couldn't use magic, faced at least thirty enemies. Of those enemies, perhaps half could use magic. If that happened, how should we deal with it?

Shia said calmly and indifferently, "The other side probably doesn't have any Silver-level beings. If they did, they would have come out directly. There's no need for an ambush."

GimGoon gripped the handle of his hammer tightly, grinning as he said, "Hmph, you dare to try and capture me without being a Silver-ranked warrior? You're asking for death."

Linta didn't take Jingon's words seriously at all. That's just how he is; he likes to exaggerate.

"Are they thieves? But we're not merchants, are we? And we don't seem like we have any money," Linta asked doubtfully.

Jin Gongyan: "There's no such thing as a reasonable robbery."

Lin Ta said, "There was no robbery, but there must have been an ambush and kidnapping by thirty people."

The unique "birdsong" sounds emanated continuously from the mountains.

This indicates that the other side is still giving instructions.

If the other party wasn't interested in us, theoretically there would only be one sound, which would mean they were letting us go. But at this moment, there's clearly no intention to let us go; in fact, they're taking us quite seriously.

"The Wild Wolf Bandits? Are they here to take revenge on us?" Linta asked.

Shia said indifferently, "I don't know."

Jin Gongyan: "Whatever, what do we say now?"

"Shia, what do we do now?" Linta asked.

Sheila said without any sign of nervousness, "I'm fine on my own, but I don't know about you guys."

Linta was slightly taken aback. She didn't know? And yet she told us to keep going? Wasn't that just sending us into the lion's den?

Eh……

Having known her for so long, I've long since noticed—to put it nicely, she's a lone wolf spirit. To put it bluntly, she's like an assassin. She doesn't need companions, she doesn't need friends; she can complete her missions alone.

"I'll listen to you. Tell me what to do," Sheila said calmly.

Jingong also said, "Brother Linta, what are your thoughts? Tell me."

Linta looked bitter, glancing around with his eyes darting left and right.

Of course I have my own ideas.

"To be honest, I really don't know how we're supposed to deal with these enemies. My thought is, run."

……

"Rat Captain, is it ready yet?" Jim Maggie was starting to get anxious as he watched the Linta men getting closer and closer to their ambush. He was afraid that even these ugly bandits wouldn't be able to accomplish their goal.

The Rat Leader chuckled and said, "Jim, don't worry, I'm not Fang Wolf."

His tone gradually became serious, and his eyes grew increasingly fierce.

The weathered, scarred hand plucked another leaf, rolled it up, and placed it at the corner of its mouth.

This time, there was no immediate sound.

With his eyes fixed on the group of Linta who were gradually moving to a certain position, he knew that once they reached that optimal spot, none of them would be able to escape.

Hurry! Hurry up!

"Whoosh!" "Whoosh—!"

Suddenly, Linta disappeared from the crowd.

Then, a swift wind swept through the mountains, causing the trees to sway and the leaves to rustle incessantly.

The sound completely drowned out the "birdsong" of the conductor.

The rat leader realized something was wrong and tried his best to play, but the sound could not drown out the rustling of the leaves.

Then, not only did Linta disappear, but Shia, Jingon, and the others also rushed into the nearby forest and vanished together.

"Where is he?!" Jim Maggie exclaimed in shock and anger.

The rat leader was greatly surprised and immediately emerged from his hiding place, shouting to his brothers who were lying in ambush, "Search! Don't let them get away!"
