Iya Continent: Card God

Chapter 17 Maggie Family

100 silver coins? Even Linta, who hadn't fully grasped the currency and prices on the continent of Iya, realized that this was a considerable sum. After all, the high-ranking bronze knight, Iron Bucket Bruno, only had 6 silver coins on him.

Now, the head of the Leer family is willing to reward everyone with 100 silver coins, which is naturally very generous.

"You said it! Swear to the gods!" Jin Gong said excitedly, afraid that the other party would go back on his word.

Making an oath to a deity doesn't guarantee it's true. But it at least gives one peace of mind and a sense of assurance.

The head of the Lehr family smiled and raised his palm. "I swear to the supreme god Morpheus, every word is true."

Linta had nothing to say; he was naturally happy.

Afterwards, the head of the Leer family expressed his gratitude briefly and then invited everyone into his mansion.

The head of the Leer family had spies throughout the city, and news of the situation was relayed back to the Herlan mansion the moment everyone entered. The battle-hardened and experienced Leer Herlan immediately knew what had happened.

For these mysterious people who saved his daughter, 100 silver coins wasn't much. It was about the price of a top-quality weapon.

Upon entering the mansion, the group immediately began a banquet.

The head of the Leer family had the kitchen prepare for this welcoming banquet in advance.

Knight Gobu also joined the banquet.

Jingong, Songguo, and Guagaga looked at the dazzling array of fresh ingredients, but they didn't care about etiquette and didn't know anything about it. They used their hands and mouths to eat heartily.

To Linta's surprise, the elven girl Shia was the same. She was eating very seriously, eating non-stop. Not in a dignified, dainty way, but rather as if eating this meal would allow her to live for a very long time.

Linta was naturally delighted with the ingredients for the banquet. Since his transmigration, he hadn't eaten anything proper. After escaping the prison, he'd trekked through mountains and rivers, subsisting on wild fruits, small fish from streams, or wild rabbits. Of course, these were all hunted by the indigenous people. However, their cooking methods were questionable. Pine cones and quails were eaten raw. Jingon and Shia simply cooked the food. Aside from that, it had absolutely nothing to do with the word "cuisine."

However, the food at this banquet wasn't very well prepared either...

The bread was no longer the hard, black bread that could kill someone. But compared to the bread I ate before I transmigrated, this was definitely hard. Meat dishes were either fried or grilled with a few unappetizing seasonings, or stewed with various fruits and vegetables until tender. What I couldn't understand the most was why fresh fruit needed to be seasoned? Was eating it raw a crime?

Thoughts aside, Linta still ate.

Knight Gob was somewhat reserved, or rather, guilty. After all, if it weren't for Linta and the others intervening, the consequences of this escort mission would have been unimaginable.

"My lord! Please punish me!"

Gob rose and begged the head of the Leer family for punishment.

Miss Jenny spoke up for him, "Father, this is not Gobu's fault. The ones who attacked us were the Wild Wolf Bandits, and those are no ordinary thieves."

The head of the Leer family smiled and said to the knight Gob, "You did not flee out of fear, but fought to the death for my Herlan family. For this, there is only merit, not sin."

Linta listened while eating, glancing around every now and then.

No wonder Miss Jenny has such a temperament; it's all due to her family's traditions.

After comforting and reassuring Gob to sit down again, the head of the Leer family smiled and looked towards Linta, saying, "I still want to thank everyone again."

As he spoke, a servant presented him with a round money bag.

"There are 100 silver coins inside, which is nothing."

Jingong's eyes lit up, and he reached out to take it.

But at a slightly greater distance, his short arms and legs made him no match for the swift and agile Shia.

With a swift gesture, the money bag was in Shia's hands.

Jingong took a deep breath, about to say something, when Shia threw the money bag onto Linta's table. "Thud!"

"Huh?" Linta was taken aback.

Shia said coldly, "You hold it for us first."

Linta looked at Jingon and the pinecones. Jingon resumed his frantic eating, while the pinecones and quacks didn't even glance at him.

Linta then picked up a small money bag and put it away: "I'll keep this for now... we'll distribute it later."

The head of the Leer family, always with a warm and friendly demeanor, continued, "Do you all need help removing these magic-suppressing rings?"

Linta's eyes lit up. "Patriarch Leer, can you untie this?"

Leer shook his head. "I can't, but there are artisans and craftsmen in Sandel City who can unravel it."

This silver-ranked family head could forcibly break the magic-suppressing ring. However, this would trigger the magic mechanism within the ring, directly damaging the wrist that was bound. In severe cases, it could even cripple the arm. The only way to safely untie it is through a profession skilled in this art.

“I knew it, how could you possibly…” Kim Gong muttered.

Linta replied, "We are also planning to go to Sandel's main city. No need to trouble ourselves."

Shankan City and Sandel City are located in a roundabout geographical location. If it weren't for the reward of sending Miss Jenny back, everyone would be on their way right now.

The head of the Leer family nodded slightly. "I see."

Then, Linta's thoughts stirred slightly, and she decided to tell him what she had guessed, "Patriarch Leer, who was that rich young master from before? What is his relationship with your family?"

Jenny gave him a look of disgust and said, "Jim Maggie, the eldest son of the Maggie family. He's a complete bastard."

The head of the Leer family calmly said, "It's nothing, it's all normal. Our Herlan family and the Maggie family are the leaders in this Shankan City area. For many years, we've had disputes with each other. In particular, our Herlan family recently obtained approval to mine a ley line, which has angered and frightened the Maggie family."

“This mineral vein can provide our family with wealth for at least thirty years. They are worried that the Maggie family will be ruined because of it, so they are thinking of a marriage alliance. Jim has come many times for this matter.”

Linta nodded and then said, "Is it possible that the Wild Wolf Bandits who attacked Miss Jenny earlier were part of their plan?"

Knight Gob was shocked and furious upon hearing this: "What!"

Miss Jenny's eyes widened, and her fists clenched.

Kim Gong stopped biting into the mutton leg he was eating. "Really?"

Shia didn't react and continued eating.

The head of the Leer family, with a calm expression, asked with a smile, "Why do you say that?"

Linta scratched his forehead and slowly said, "When Jim appeared, he seemed to have a sense that the attack on the Herlan family's convoy was expected. And when Miss Jenny joked that the thieves might be related to their family, his emotions seemed strange for a moment. It was as if he was wondering if the other party knew the truth?"

"Really? I didn't notice it." Jin Gong asked in confusion.

Shia scoffed, "You good-for-nothing, what have you discovered?"

"Who are you talking about? You're not one of them either, you eat just as much as I do!" Jin Gong retorted, not to be outdone.

Miss Jenny and Knight Gob fell into deep thought, reflecting on what had happened.

The head of the Leer family said with a warm smile, "Brother Linta, you're right."

Linta was calm, without any joyful thoughts.

“Father? Really?” Miss Jenny asked in surprise.

The head of the Leer family said in a deep voice, "I only found out about this recently. The Maggie family has always had financial dealings with the Wild Wolf Bandits. That's why their family's caravans haven't been attacked."

Maggie's family mansion.

A man with an unfriendly face and a stern, elegant expression is looking at the latest intelligence letter.

The letter was marked with a wolf's head.

The man sneered, "This wolf king, he's asking for a pretty high price. He really thinks he's something."

The man was none other than Dorn Maggie from the Maggie family.

Jim Maggie, the eldest son standing to the side, sneered, "That prisoner bastard dares to bargain with us? He's gone too far!"

Dorn Magee said with a half-smile, "His offer is actually quite reasonable for this matter. We really need the help of the Herland family to acquire their mining veins."

Jim looked doubtful and asked cautiously, "Father, what exactly is beneath those ley lines?"

Dorn's eyes darkened, and he fell silent.
