Rebirth: Supreme Soul Master
Chapter 29 Night Lightning Fox
William's arrows were perfectly suited to deal with Silver-level monsters. Even if it was a hybrid of two monsters, and a mixed-race one at that, William doubted whether it could escape unscathed from his arrows.
But the next moment, William had to jump again to dodge another minor attack, coupled with the monster's powerful roar.
“That’s not enough to defeat you.” The monster’s roar caused William pain, but he felt no sign of weakness. Clearly, his arrow had not caused the intended damage, and he could guess why.
Before the fire and smoke had even cleared, he immediately took out three arrows and shot them in three different directions.
The monster attacked again. This time, it didn't ignore any of William's arrows. It learned its lesson and made sure to fire three arrows simultaneously. With each attack, it roared loudly and annoyingly, driving William crazy.
"Shut up! You'll wake up the whole forest, damn it!"
The roars were so loud, even louder than the explosions of his arrows. These roars had a lightning-like effect, but this didn't have much of an effect on William.
Lightning can numb or even paralyze any attack, even sound-based attacks. The monster used such a sound attack to try and disrupt his mind and will. But this didn't put William under too much pressure.
After all, William's will was not that of an eight-year-old child. Trying to influence his mind and actions with such useless, weak lightning was insufficient.
If the monster attacks directly like that lightning bolt, and then combines it with the lightning attack, then William will be in danger.
Just like last time, William fired three arrows, then threw something. The monster attacked the arrows as before, but this time something else was hidden behind it.
"Roar!"
This was a roar of intense pain, telling William that the monster was severely wounded by his blade. What William had thrown after the arrow was one of his throwing knives. Even if the monster could shatter his arrows, it couldn't affect the blade he held complete control over.
William was convinced that his sword was stronger than his arrows.
But for this monster, hell was just beginning. William not only sent four more knives to attack it, but after the knives entered the monster's body, he also controlled them, allowing them to penetrate deep into its flesh.
The more you move, the weaker the monster's roar becomes.
“Die peacefully,” William thought, not wanting to kill the monster so slowly as it grew weaker. He wasn’t a sadist to begin with. So he fired three arrows in quick succession, killing the monster with three powerful explosions.
The monster let out a final roar and collapsed, its massive body falling to the ground. In the blink of an eye that lasted less than half a minute, William couldn't even make out its body.
But once the monster died, his earlier suspicions were confirmed. When he began to examine the fox's carcass, he became certain that this was no ordinary night thunder fox.
A strange, long bone stretched from its neck all the way to its furry, long tail. The bone was a bright silver color, indicating that it was one of the best places in its body filled with spiritual energy.
It's important to know that Silver-level monsters provide more materials than White-level and Bronze-level monsters. William placed his hand on the bone, feeling its smooth and slightly soft contours.
"So you're some kind of interesting light element hybrid," he muttered to himself, a monster he'd never seen before. "I guess this is my lucky day! I not only got one of the elements I wanted, but I got three at once. Thanks, buddy, I really appreciate your help."
Night fell, lightning flashed, and light appeared. This was fantastic for William, and perfect.
Unlike before, he didn't rush to dissect the monster on the spot to claim his spoils. Instead, he began to move its massive body to a safer place; he found a small cave covered by dense bushes a mile away.
William was certain that the battle had attracted the attention of many monsters in the vicinity. Even though he tried his best to finish quickly, the sound of exploding arrows and the monsters' roars were enough to draw the attention of many people.
Not to mention that the smell of blood would attract even more people in the next few hours. But he had already found a way to solve the problem of the smell of blood.
Knowing that it was nearly impossible to avoid fighting here, William prepared to address the most crucial issue in any battle: the smell of blood.
Knowing he would eventually have to fight, he constantly searched for the perfect hiding place wherever he went. This is where his skill came in handy; otherwise, he would have had to search for a suitable place to hide and absorb the monster's soul, wasting precious time and putting himself in danger in the process.
The monster's body was incredibly heavy. It was five meters long and nearly one and a half meters wide. The changes that had occurred to the light elemental bone made it heavier than William had initially imagined.
But this didn't stop William from moving the corpse. If William waited there a few more minutes, he was certain he would eventually fight even more monsters.
William headed towards the cave he had encountered before meeting the fox monster. It was the safest place he could think of in the area, and the only safe place he had found near the battlefield.
After moving there, he first started spreading powder made from the crushed roots of certain plants he had picked along the way.
“This will help mask the strong smell of blood,” he said, shaking off the powder after covering the entire cave area and the closest part of the path he had taken to get there.
Then he went inside and placed the fox's heavy carcass at the far end of the cave.
The process of absorbing spirits is neither short nor simple. Moreover, any interference along the way will lead to failure and a strong backlash.
So William spent some time sealing the opening of the cave with more plants and tree roots. He even used some soil. He didn't want anything to bother him during the process.
The cave is located beneath the roots of a towering tree. The tree itself requires ten people to encircle it.
But it is located on the edge of a slope, and the cave is in that spot, with a narrow entrance visible from the outside.
The small opening led to a slightly more spacious cave. Although not very wide, it was certainly large enough compared to his cabinet.
“It’s time to pull myself together,” he said, looking at the monster he had killed with greed and anticipation in his eyes.
He sat beside the monster's corpse, without even lighting a candle. It was still dark outside, and any light would be easily detected by the monster.
He closed the opening, but he doubted whether he had done enough to block the candlelight. If the monster outside noticed the light, it would interrupt his absorption of the fox monster's soul.
Lying in this darkness, he felt the monster's body, and then reopened the old wound on his left hand. He felt strange; he began to feel that his left hand had become the blood donor in this life.
Like a heartbeat, the moment the blood-red hand touched the monster, the dead fox's entire body began to emit a faint, myriad of strange lights. William wasn't surprised by this. After all, it was an expected outcome.
The method of absorbing demonic spirits depends entirely on the Soul Master's blood. And William already possesses incredible devouring abilities. Therefore, he anticipates a more intense reaction, and even the process he is familiar with will not change.
He didn't loosen his grip, nor did he try to stop the bleeding. Instead, he applied further pressure with his hand to ensure there was no gap between them.
The more he fought, the greater the changes occurred in his blood and the monster's body. The blood began to flow, coagulate, and form a uniform white substance.
This reflects his current state of mind. It wasn't pure white, but a white mixed with many impurities, making the color appear somewhat dull and not very appealing.
The monster's body began to become translucent under his blood-red touch. Wherever it was touched, its internal organs and bones were revealed, until a wisp of mist appeared deep within the body's center.
This is the monster's soul; the one William wants to absorb and merge with right now.
