Rebirth: Supreme Soul Master

In my past life, some, or even most, of the tasks assigned by my master were to track down, find, and hunt down hidden dark soul master bases or gathering places.

He knew his current strength was insufficient, and dreaming of taking over the entire base of these filthy soul masters was tantamount to suicide.

However, if the mission only requires gathering intelligence, then it can be completed.

“Tch! Fine! If you want to lose your life, then come and be my guest!” The Grand Elder seemed tired of William’s childish attitude. “Here… the details of this mission are all here,” the Grand Elder took a scroll from his ring and slid it out through the crack in the window. “Take your time. Please… consider how deadly this could be before you come back here.”

"Thank you, senior." William accepted the scroll and bowed. He didn't think the details of the mission would be so easily conveyed through a scroll, and without any cost.

He walked to one side of the venue, where there were many seats, neatly arranged around small tables. In fact, he hadn't expected to design such a place to achieve this purpose.

He mistakenly assumed this was a rest area for the older, more experienced employees. After all, in the mercenary department, who needs to read or study anything?

There were no Soul Masters here, and William was the first to intervene after arriving.

"Hmm... interesting..." When he opened the scroll, he felt that the requirements of this task were not as simple as he had imagined.

The first part of the scroll described just how dangerous such a mission was. William suspected that these lines were added by the academy elders, not by the person who issued the mission.

Otherwise, anyone considering this mission would immediately abandon the idea and change their mind upon reading these words, which describe the casualties of those who had previously attempted the mission, the many dangers awaiting those who would carry it out, and things like that.

He bypassed and ignored that section, going straight to the text written on the scroll by the person who actually issued the task.

The main purpose of this mission is to gather information about the movements and activities of Dark Soul Masters in the Scorching Lands and even in the adjacent areas.

William saw a detailed map of the area and the surrounding land, which marked famous locations, trade routes, areas where Dark Soul Masters were suspected to be active, and even places that appeared to be Dark Soul Master bases.

Then a long string of dots occupies the rest of the scroll, describing different objectives, each sufficient to complete the task.

William read the following: information on the existence or activity of Dark Soul Masters in new locations not on the map, the discovery of Dark Soul Master teams' routes, and even the location of Dark Soul Master bases were all included.

"This mission is quite extensive, with numerous targets and a wealth of submissions... It's like a general is planning a war against the dark soul masters of this region... I love it!"

William became curious about the identity of the person who issued this task. When he turned to the end of the scroll, he did not find the name of the person behind the task.

"Hmm... Once you achieve any mission objectives, please hand over the evidence and intelligence you find to the nearest mercenary unit. Your performance will be evaluated within an hour, and the reward will be issued on the spot."

William read the last few lines of the scroll, which revealed nothing about the identity of the person behind the mission.

“It’s really well-hidden…” William knew this wasn’t a small mistake, nor was it the fault of the person who issued the mission. They deliberately didn’t mention their names, or even give their exact location, making it impossible for anyone to track their movements.

All of this was to prevent retaliation from the Dark Soul Masters. This further solidified William's earlier thought... "These guys are plotting something big against the Dark Soul Masters... I want to join them!"

William wasn't joking, but he knew he'd have to wait a while longer to participate in such a big event.

The tasks listed here are well-suited to his and his team's current abilities and strengths. As for the evidence, the recording crystals can suffice; they were used by alchemists in class to record their own actions.

Putting those thoughts aside, he returned to studying the scroll. "Sure enough, the reward of 5,000 crystals is just the minimum... there's a quest here with a reward of 50,000 crystals!"

The first few missions he read about were all about reconnaissance. It was as if there was a huge, empty map, and any team that carried out these missions was required to fill it with a lot of data about the movements, current whereabouts, and activities of the Dark Soul Masters.

It's like giving a mission to a reconnaissance soul master squad or something.

Simple tasks, such as providing information on the location or route of a Dark Soul Master, will earn you basic rewards.

Following any Dark Soul Master team, drawing a map of their activities in a certain area, or even revealing the spiritual elements they use in combat techniques will earn you double the base rewards.

Then the list of rewards started to get richer... and more dangerous.

Missions such as killing Dark Soul Masters and bringing back their bodies and loot are available. There are even missions that require capturing one alive and bringing it back, and missions that require killing or capturing a squad in any area.
