Transcending Heavens: My Cheat Code is Myself
Chapter 23 Sorting Ceremony
The joy is that time is always fleeting, and the boat slowly sails towards the shore.
As soon as they reached the shore, Malfoy and the others hurriedly ran to change their clothes.
Hagrid easily lifted their small boat with one hand, looked left and right but found nothing. Naturally, Chen Feng had already erased the traces of the Wood Release when they reached the shore. Hagrid scratched his head, and could only attribute this accident to something going wrong with the magic and let it go.
Hogwarts stands proudly on the edge of a cliff, surrounded by water on three sides. The young wizards look at the towering magical buildings on the cliff and exclaim in amazement.
Hagrid laughed and said, "This is nothing, there's much more to come."
The new students disembarked in an orderly fashion, prompted by Hagrid, and then lined up in a small queue.
Hagrid led the young wizards up a winding stone staircase, and soon the main gate of Hogwarts came into view.
Even Chen Feng was somewhat excited for a moment.
“Go up these stairs and you’ll see Professor McGonagall. Remember to be respectful,” Hagrid reminded him.
"Aren't you with us?"
"I'll go check on those guys. Maybe they need more than just a change of clothes." Hagrid didn't say anything more than that; he just shook his head and went to find Malfoy and the others.
The remaining young wizards looked at each other in confusion. Chen Feng decisively took the lead and walked up the steps. Hermione followed closely behind, like a little tail. Before long, they saw a tall, slender, and serious-looking witch.
"Hello, young wizards, welcome to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I will be Professor Minerva McGonagall, who will be teaching you Transfiguration, as well as the Head of Gryffindor and the Vice-Headmaster of Hogwarts. You may call me Professor McGonagall."
Professor McGonagall walked slowly past the freshmen. When Chen Feng saw her, it was as if he saw his former head teacher; their demeanor was so similar.
"Your seniors and professors from various courses, including Headmaster Dumbledore, are all waiting for you inside. Before the opening banquet begins, the Sorting Ceremony will take place first."
"You will be assigned to four different colleges where you will spend your seven years of study."
"These four houses are Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Each house has a long history and has produced countless outstanding wizards."
"During your time at the university, you will attend classes with students from other institutions, and your outstanding performance will earn you bonus points for your college."
Any violation will result in a deduction of points for your institution. At the end of the year, the institution with the highest score will receive the Academy Cup.
This is a tremendous honor, and everyone will be proud of you. We hope that no matter which university you are assigned to, you will bring glory to the college.
Chen Feng looked at the familiar opening remarks and inwardly scoffed. Forget it, no matter how many points Harry Potter deducted from Gryffindor, Dumbledore would definitely find all sorts of reasons to add them back to Gryffindor.
There's something fishy going on, it's impossible to play this game, absolutely impossible. Besides, Dumbledore is the headmaster, so Chen Feng has nowhere to report it.
Fortunately, Chen Feng had no interest in the Academy Cup. With someone rigging the referee's calls, what was the point of competing? He'd rather spend that time reading a couple more spellbooks and showing off to Hermione. That would be much more interesting.
Professor McGonagall had just finished recounting the events before the students enrolled when Malfoy and the others finally arrived. Seeing their disheveled collars and their linings soaked from running, Professor McGonagall couldn't help but frown.
"What happened to you? Did you get lost on the lake?"
The group's faces flushed instantly. Malfoy said, "We were seasick and accidentally threw up, so we had to go change our clothes."
"Booted on the boat?" Professor McGonagall thought carefully about the speed of the magical boat, her face full of disbelief. Each boat was enchanted by her, and sailing on the water was almost as smooth as walking on flat ground. It was so stable that even freshmen would get seasick.
Professor McGonagall glanced at Hagrid, who was following behind the three. Hagrid nodded silently. There was indeed no problem; the four of them had indeed vomited.
With Hagrid as a witness, Professor McGonagall had no choice but to reluctantly believe him. Moreover, seeing their pale faces, it didn't seem like they were acting; they had genuinely fainted and vomited. Professor McGonagall could only nod helplessly, remarking that the wizarding world was truly full of wonders, and she hadn't expected that the children of this generation of wizarding families would have such poor health.
Sprout mentioned a couple of days ago when he came back that a child had experienced Apparition for the first time and was perfectly fine, which just goes to show that people's physical constitutions are not the same.
Other students also testified on their behalf, saying that if Chen Feng hadn't intervened, they probably would have fainted on the boat.
"Is it really that exaggerated?" Professor McGonagall looked on in astonishment. She had almost fainted on the ship! For a moment, she looked at the expressions of the others and they all became a little strange.
Meanwhile, the young wizards were still chattering away about some ancient punishment, which was all nonsense. She herself had cast the spell on that ship; there was no ancient sage. How could she not know? The scene suddenly became quite chaotic.
"Quiet!" Professor McGonagall snapped.
All the new students immediately shut their mouths; it's fair to say that the dean of students was truly formidable.
"Hagrid, come with me." Professor McGonagall called Hagrid over, intending to get more details about the situation.
Once Professor McGonagall and Hagrid had walked away, the group of freshmen immediately became lively again.
Everyone started gossiping about the Sorting Ceremony, and even Hermione was very curious about it.
Chen Feng listened with amusement as they told all sorts of bizarre versions of the story, feeling that the trip was worthwhile. After all, it was pointless to just put a hat on someone's head.
But the young wizards had a different story. Ron, for example, said with certainty, "My brothers all studied at Hogwarts. They told me that the Sorting Ceremony is extremely cruel and strict. If you don't meet the standards, you'll be kicked out of the school and sent back to where you came from!"
The young wizard standing nearby exclaimed in surprise, "Weren't we already enrolled? How could we be expelled? Didn't all those things we bought go to waste? The owl was worth a lot of money!"
"We buy owls at low prices, owls with eagle heads, owls with owl heads." Chen Feng started to openly advertise the prices for buying them, indicating that he was an animal conservationist and would definitely treat them well.
Hermione felt ashamed and immediately covered Chen Feng's mouth with her hand, preventing him from finishing speaking.
Ron, standing to the other side, also felt something was off. This was no small sum of money, so he awkwardly touched his nose and explained, "I heard all this from my brothers. They often play pranks on me, and maybe they conspired to deceive me, who knows?"
Before he could finish speaking, another student chimed in, "No, they might not be lying to you. My sister told me the same thing, and she also told me about the test. We need to team up and fight the trolls. Our house assignment will be based on our performance against the trolls. Rumor has it that many freshmen have lost their lives because of this in previous years!"
Several young wizards exclaimed in surprise, "No wonder they say Hogwarts has a certain number of deaths, and students die every year, so that's why!"
Several timid wizards in the corner, listening to their words, began to tremble involuntarily.
Hermione rolled her eyes, interrupting their wild imaginations: "How could the Sorting Ceremony for wizards be so terrifying? We're just a bunch of junior wizards. Those are trolls! Even many adult wizards aren't a match for trolls. How could the house possibly give us such opponents!"
"If you ask me, the reason we come to the Wizarding Academy is definitely to be sorted into houses through exams. For example, those with high scores go to one house and those with low scores go to another. So the sorting ceremony is a test of our self-learning ability!"
“That makes sense. Otherwise, why would the school remind us to buy textbooks so far in advance? Isn’t it so that we can prepare for the exam in advance?” some of the young wizards said with sudden realization.
This idea was immediately accepted by everyone, since it was much more reliable than fighting giants.
But their joy was short-lived. Many of the young wizards were soon dejected. They had never read any textbooks, and some hadn't even memorized the titles.
"Oh no, oh no! If I had known it was an exam, I would have looked at the materials beforehand!"
"Yeah, I'm doomed! I'm definitely going to get a zero!"
"My book is still on the train, and I suddenly want to go back and get it."
........
Hearing the wails of the crowd, Chen Feng laughed heartily, thinking that these little brats were really interesting, and this scene was much more interesting than the actual school division ceremony.
Ron tugged at Harry's sleeve and whispered, "Have you looked at those textbooks?"
Harry shook his head slightly. "No, my aunt and uncle don't agree to me coming to Hogwarts. I only just received my acceptance letter two days ago, and I haven't had time to look at the textbooks at all."
“That puts my mind at ease. It seems we’ll be assigned to the same house.” Ron breathed a sigh of relief, as if he had taken some kind of reassurance, and winked at Harry.
"You have a great attitude." Harry saw that Ron was still in the mood to joke around, which made him feel much better. He smiled, turned to look at Chen Feng, and said enviously, "Chen Feng will definitely get a high score."
Ron nodded in agreement and said, "Chen Feng's brain is not something that ordinary people can compare to. I think only Hermione can compare to him."
Hermione bumped Chen Feng's shoulder with her little head. Chen Feng looked over with a puzzled expression. What are you doing now?
“Although you might get first place in this exam, it’s only once. I won’t give up. I promise that my score will be higher than yours in the next exam!” Hermione looked at Chen Feng seriously, her face full of resentment.
Chen Feng was both amused and exasperated. He didn't care about being number one, but this guy actually dared to be unconvinced. He had quite the courage.
He immediately replied with a serious expression, "Alright, Miss Granger, I will also go all out and won't hold back!"
"Hmph! I don't care if you hold back!" Hermione turned her head away, leaving Chen Feng with a playful glimpse of the back of her head.
Without any hesitation, Chen Feng reached out and ruffled the long brown hair in front of him into a mess.
