Chapter 254: 3 Trials
In the dead of night, the great hall of Kassel College was quiet. Cold moonlight streamed through the huge glass windows, illuminating the rune-covered floor and casting a mysterious atmosphere over the entire hall. The four stood silently before Norma's virtual projection, their faces clearly outlined by the blue light.
"Are you sure this is the only way?" Caesar gently twirled the rune sword in his hand, his tone relaxed, but his eyes revealed a hint of suppressed seriousness.
“There is no other choice.” Tian’s voice remained calm, the rune gun humming faintly in his hand. “The core will of Nidhogg is awakening, and its power permeates the thirteen sealed nodes. To stop the Camarilla, we must pass their trials.”
Chu Zihang's gaze was as steady as a mountain, and he tightened his grip on the Dragon Cutter slightly: "What is the essence of the trial?"
“Nidhogg selects the successor to the ‘Power of Kings’ through thirteen trials, each filled with danger and temptation.” Tian brought up a virtual projection, displaying a complex network of runes on the screen. “The first trial—‘Conflict’—tests the team’s tacit understanding and loyalty. The losers will be forever trapped in the trial’s domain, unable to escape.”
Looking at the complex structure on the projection, Lu Mingfei scratched his head with a wry smile: "It sounds ominous. I have a bad feeling."
“You always have a bad feeling about things, but you always survive.” Caesar smiled and patted Lu Mingfei on the shoulder. “This time will be the same.”
"But this time it's Nidhogg!" Lu Mingfei exclaimed. "The Black King of the Dragon Clan, resorting to such disgusting trials, can we really win?"
Tian calmly analyzed, "The rules of the trial are strict, but not without a solution. The most important thing in the Trial of Conflict is to maintain the integrity of the team; any betrayal or division will trigger a greater crisis."
Chu Zihang nodded: "In that case, we must trust each other completely and without reservation."
Caesar raised an eyebrow: "Understood. But speaking of which, there can't be just the four of us in this trial, can there? If the Camarilla are also involved, that would be even more interesting."
“The Camarilla will definitely emerge,” Tian said firmly. “They will not abandon Nidhogg’s power.”
"Alright." Lu Mingfei sighed, gripping his short knife tightly. "Let's take it one step at a time. Anyway, I'm used to it."
Norma's calm voice echoed in the hall: "The Trial Realm is about to open. All participants, please prepare yourselves. The countdown will begin in ten seconds."
As Norma's countdown ended, the rune array beneath their feet suddenly lit up, enveloping them in a blinding blue light. Space began to distort violently, as if an invisible force was pulling them into another dimension. A few seconds later, their vision was completely swallowed up.
When the light faded, they found themselves in a completely unfamiliar territory. The sky was covered by thick gray clouds, and all around them was a vast wasteland. The ground was riddled with deep cracks, and molten lava could be vaguely seen rolling within the fissures.
"Welcome to the Trial of Conflict." A deep voice came from the sky, seemingly striking straight to the heart. "This is the place where power and betrayal meet. Only the most loyal teams can pass through here."
Lu Mingfei looked up towards the source of the sound, but only saw the faint phantom of a giant dragon emerging from the depths of the clouds. He swallowed hard and asked in a low voice, "What do we do?"
Tian's gaze swept around: "The trial realm is composed of division and confrontation. We must remain calm at all times and not be misled by the illusions of the trial."
Caesar raised an eyebrow: "Sounds like a psychological battle."
Chu Zihang's Dragon Cutter trembled slightly, and a bluish-green light seeped from the blade. He said in a deep voice, "No matter what happens, never doubt each other."
"Isn't it too late to say all this now?" Lu Mingfei pointed ahead, where a group of fully armed members of the Secret Society were slowly approaching from the other side of the wasteland. Behind them, several alchemical creations were faintly visible, radiating a dangerous glow.
Caesar chuckled, and his rune sword crackled with blue lightning: "It seems the first conflict has begun."
Chu Zihang stepped forward, his gaze sharp and his voice cold: "Battle begins. Disperse and act separately. Prioritize protecting the integrity of your teams."
Tian raised his rune spear, its blue light locking onto the enemy at the forefront: "No choice, prepare for battle."
Lu Mingfei took a deep breath, the short sword in his hand gleaming with faint runic light. He muttered to himself, "Fine, another lesson I didn't want to learn."
The prelude to the battle slowly unfolded in the Trial Grounds.
The Camarilla figures approached like a tidal wave, a dangerous aura permeating the surroundings. Scorching air currents continuously spewed from the cracks in the wasteland, as if the entire battlefield was filled with an invisible rage.
Chu Zihang calmly surveyed the battlefield, his gaze lingering briefly on the alchemical creations of the Camarilla before he whispered his commands: "Caesar, draw the enemy's attention to the front. Mingfei and Tian, break through from the flanks and find the Camarilla's commander."
“This is exactly my specialty.” Caesar smiled slightly, and the lightning power on his runic sword suddenly surged, rushing towards the Camarilla's ranks like a bolt of lightning. His movements were swift and fierce, each swing of the sword carrying powerful energy, cleaving the oncoming alchemical creations in two.
“Caesar is definitely the protagonist template.” Lu Mingfei complained as he followed Tian around from the side. His short sword emitted a faint blue light in his hand, making him look somewhat uneasy: “Tian, can we really find the commander? These Camarilla guys seem to have come prepared.”
“Their actions are definitely not chaotic.” Tian calmly analyzed, constantly adjusting the direction of the rune gun to lock onto the enemy’s energy fluctuations. “The Camarilla’s commander must be protecting the strongest node. If we destroy that node, the rules of the trial may change.”
Lu Mingfei sighed: "I really hope I can survive this time."
At the same time, Chu Zihang's Dragon Cleaver, wreathed in blazing emerald flames, hurtled straight towards the core of an alchemical construct. The blade sliced through the metal surface with a piercing tearing sound. The alchemical construct let out a low growl, and its massive body crashed to the ground.
"Continue the advance," Chu Zihang said coldly. His movements did not stop at all. The flames of the Dragon Cutter drew an arc of light across the wasteland, forcing the Camarilla's troops to retreat repeatedly.
Caesar, laughing loudly, called out to Chu Zihang, "Chu Zihang, don't steal all the credit! Leave me a chance to shine!"
"Enough with the nonsense," Chu Zihang replied calmly, his gaze fixed straight ahead.
Suddenly, an unusual light appeared in the center of the Secret Society's ranks, and a tall man in black robes slowly stepped out. He held a long staff, the head of which was inlaid with a scarlet gem that emitted a captivating light. His gaze was cold, and his voice was deep: "As expected of the academy's elite, but you are far too naive to think you can pass the trial."
"Looks like this is the commander." Caesar licked his lips, his tone full of excitement. "Finally, a worthy opponent."
The rune spear quickly locked onto the target, warning, "His staff is connected to the Trial's rune network, which is key to the entire Camarilla operation. He must be dealt with first."
"Mingfei, prepare to cover." Chu Zihang's tone was cold as he gripped the Dragon Cutter tightly.
Lu Mingfei's heart raced, but he took a deep breath and nodded: "Okay, I'll give it a try."
The man in black robes sneered, and with a wave of his staff, a crimson rune beam shot straight into the sky, instantly freezing the air currents in the entire wasteland. His voice, like a dragon's whisper, carried an irresistible pressure: "Mortals, welcome to the trial of strife. Here, there are no true victors."
As his voice faded, the earth trembled even more violently, countless alchemical creations surged forth from the cracks, and the air was filled with a mixture of scorching heat and icy cold. The scale of the battle suddenly expanded, and every moment was incredibly tense.
Caesar laughed loudly, a bolt of lightning flashing as he swung his rune sword: "Well said, but we'll show you who the real victor is!"
Chu Zihang charged towards the man in black robes, the flames of the Dragon Cleaver streaking through the air like meteors, heading straight for the man's staff. Meanwhile, Tian swiftly adjusted his rune gun, aiming it at the energy node of the alchemical creation from a distance, continuously firing precise shots.
