Chapter 242 Alchemy Laboratory
"It's over." Chu Zihang said coldly, as the Dragon Slash drew its final arc, the black-robed man's figure froze, and then he crashed to the ground.
Lu Mingfei, panting heavily, rushed forward and looked at the man in black robes on the ground, muttering under his breath, "Finally done..."
Chu Zihang ignored his sighs and instead crouched down to examine the black-robed man's belongings. He took out a rune stone emitting a scarlet light from the man's robes, his gaze growing increasingly cold.
“This is a key tool for the Camarilla,” Chu Zihang said in a low voice. “Their operations within the academy are far more complex than we imagined.”
Looking at the rune stone, Lu Mingfei couldn't help but ask, "Chu Zihang, what exactly is this thing? Why is the Secret Society so obsessed with it?"
Chu Zihang stood up, his gaze fixed intently on the end of the corridor: "This is not the focus of our discussion right now. The crisis at the academy is far from over. We must find all the spies before the Camarilla."
Chu Zihang's gaze was icy, and the rune stone in his hand emitted an eerie red glow in the dim light. He put the rune stone away and turned to look at Lu Mingfei: "We must give this rune stone to Angers immediately. This thing is not just a tool; it is very likely part of their control over the dragon race's will."
Lu Mingfei wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and said, panting, "Okay, but you have to tell me first, if this thing goes out of control, will it blow up the entire academy?"
Chu Zihang did not answer, but turned and walked out, his tone still cold: "Let's go, there's no time to waste."
Lu Mingfei watched his retreating figure, shook his head helplessly, picked up his short sword, and followed. Along the way, his gaze kept unconsciously drifting towards Chu Zihang's hand; the rune stone seemed to possess an irresistible attraction.
"Chu Zihang, is this thing really safe?" Lu Mingfei couldn't help but ask.
“It won’t erupt unless it’s interfered with by external forces.” Chu Zihang said calmly, but his brows furrowed slightly. “But we don’t know what effect it will have once it’s activated.”
Lu Mingfei felt a tightness in his chest, but didn't ask any more questions. They moved quickly along the corridor, the path leading to the main building appearing unusually empty, illuminated only by dim lights.
Meanwhile, in the conference room of the academy's main building, Angers, Tian, and Caesar were analyzing the runic data brought back from the Central Asian ruins. Tian's runic spear was projected onto the table, its blue and red lights intertwining to form a complex energy network.
“These energy fluctuations indicate that the Camarilla are attempting to establish a prototype of a ‘Dragon Core Node’,” Tian calmly explained. “If this prototype is completed, they may try to directly materialize the Dragon Will and become a true ruler.”
Angers frowned slightly, his tone grave: "Direct materialization? Is this an attempt to surpass the power of the Dragon King?"
Tian nodded: "That's right. And during this operation, we discovered that the Camarilla are using a new type of runestone, which is very likely the key to their plan."
Caesar leaned back in his chair, twirling a pen in his hand, a hint of lighthearted amusement in his eyes: "So, the Camarilla might be using us as guinea pigs again this time? Making such a big fuss every time, aren't they afraid of a crushing defeat?"
Angers glanced at Caesar indifferently: "The cost of their failure is far less than we imagined, because the Camarilla always finds a way to shift the burden onto others. Caesar, there's no room for jokes this time."
Caesar shrugged slightly, a smile still playing on his lips: "I know, Headmaster. But it seems we need to give these lunatics a little 'surprise'."
As soon as he finished speaking, Chu Zihang and Lu Mingfei pushed open the door and entered. The rune stone in Chu Zihang's hand emitted a dark red light, instantly attracting everyone's attention.
"This was found on an undercover agent of the academy's underground secret society." Chu Zihang placed the rune stone on the table, his voice calm. "Its energy fluctuations are consistent with the core of the Central Asian ruins."
Tian immediately stood up and scanned the runestone with his rune gun, the data projection jumping continuously in the air. His gaze was fixed on the analysis results, and his voice had an unusual seriousness: "This runestone is not just an energy node, it seems to be transmitting some kind of information... similar to a remote signal."
“A signal?” Angers stood up, his gaze sharp as he stared at the runestone. “What is it communicating?”
Tian's fingers flew across the keyboard, quickly pinpointing the source of the signal. On the projected map, a flashing red dot appeared in a remote mountainous region of Europe.
“This is… deep in the Black Forest?” Tian frowned and said, “The signal transmission point is located in this area, which may be another stronghold of the Camarilla.”
“The Black Forest?” Caesar chuckled, a hint of sarcasm in his voice. “Sounds like the place where a wicked witch from a fairy tale lives.”
“This operation will likely not have a fairytale ending,” Angers said in a deep voice, his gaze sweeping over everyone. “Chu Zihang, Caesar, Tian, you will be in charge of investigating in the Black Forest. Lu Mingfei, you will remain at the academy to assist Norma in tracking down the Camarilla’s infiltrators. We need to ensure the academy’s safety in every way.”
Lu Mingfei was about to complain, but Chu Zihang silenced him with a glare. He sighed and muttered, "Fine, it's me guarding the house again."
After the tasks were assigned, everyone immediately began to act. Chu Zihang and Caesar prepared their equipment, Tian retrieved all intelligence related to the Black Forest, while Lu Mingfei returned to the intelligence room to analyze the Camarilla's infiltration network.
But the moment Lu Mingfei sat down, a line of unfamiliar runes popped up on his computer screen, and the scarlet light made his heart pound.
“What is this…” Lu Mingfei muttered to himself, reaching out to try to close the window, but the runes seemed to come alive, slowly moving and piecing together a familiar face.
"Lu Mingfei." The face spoke softly, its voice low and eerie, "On the chessboard of the Secret Society, the most important piece is awakening. Are you ready to face the truth?"
Lu Mingfei's breath caught in his throat as he stared at the eerie face on the screen. His fingertips grew cold, and he seemed to hear countless overlapping whispers, each one a summons from the abyss.
"Who...who is speaking?" he asked with difficulty, his voice trembling involuntarily.
The face on the screen didn't answer, but merely twitched the corners of its mouth slightly, revealing a meaningful smile. Its eyes were fixed on Lu Mingfei, as if they could pierce through his soul.
"Do you want to know who you are? Do you want to know your true position in this game?" The voice was deep and hoarse, with an irresistible allure.
Lu Mingfei gritted his teeth and slammed his fist on the table: "Stop beating around the bush! What does the Camarilla's conspiracy have to do with me?"
His face trembled slightly, then a scarlet rune appeared, slowly rotating as if speaking in some ancient language: "The Camarilla's goal has never been simple destruction. Every piece on the chessboard has its meaning. And you, Lu Mingfei, are their key move. Your bloodline, your destiny, have already been marked."
Lu Mingfei took a step back, cold sweat trickling down his forehead. His gaze was fixed on the runes on the screen: "Don't give me this mystical nonsense! Tell me clearly, what exactly am I?"
He chuckled softly, his voice full of sarcasm: "You can find the answer yourself, but soon you'll discover... the truth is far more terrifying than you imagine."
After speaking, the face transformed into a streak of red light and vanished from the screen. The entire intelligence room returned to silence, leaving only Lu Mingfei standing there, his palms sweating profusely.
Meanwhile, deep within Kassel College, Chu Zihang, Caesar, and Tian were preparing to head to the Black Forest. Their equipment was ready, and although their expressions differed, they all shared a chilling aura.
"The Camarilla really made a ridiculous choice to pick the Black Forest," Caesar said, slinging his rune sword over his shoulder with a hint of a joke in his voice. "It always reminds me of the fairy tales I heard as a child. Do you think there might actually be witches there?"
“If so, you can try negotiating.” Tian replied coldly, his gaze fixed on the map projection in his hand. “According to intelligence, there is an abandoned alchemy laboratory deep in the Black Forest, which is likely the place where the Camarilla used to hide its core formation.”
"An alchemy lab?" Chu Zihang frowned, his voice low. "If they can continue researching rune technology in a place like this, it means they've mastered a higher level of control. We can't let their plans continue."
