Not following the expected path? Reborn and unexpectedly married to a demon.

Chapter 47 Selling His Wife for Personal Gain, Chu Luo Encounters Trouble

Jin Wuchen chewed a few times, showing no sign of disapproval, and finally swallowed.

"How is it? Is it edible? Is there anything you don't like?" Chu Luo asked.

"No, it tastes good. I've never had this kind of cooking method before. Did you make it yourself?" Jin Wuchen smiled and affirmed Chu Luo.

Feeling appreciated, Chu Luo was overjoyed. "Yes, yes, I'm not very good at cooking, but this is the most elaborate dish I know, and it's even my own creation."

Jin Wuchen, out of courtesy, ate two more bites.

Chu Luo felt a sense of accomplishment and, seeing him put down his chopsticks, served him a bowl of chicken soup.

Jin Wuchen refused to eat anymore, so Chu Luo brought him chicken soup and spoon-fed him, saying, "Drink some chicken soup, it will help your wound heal faster. If your hand is not convenient, I can feed you."

Jin Wuchen looked at his wrist. Although there was a wound, it did not prevent him from holding anything, and there was no inconvenience whatsoever.

But he still opened his mouth and drank half a bowl of chicken soup under Chu Luo's coaxing-like actions.

Jin Wuchen felt that everyone around her seemed to be well taken care of by her. Not to mention Xingzhu, who was always cheerful, even Tingshu Wenfeng, who had just joined her side today, came back with a different spirit after going out with her.

"I met Tingshu Wenfeng today. They are very nice people. I'm really sorry about what happened last night."

After tidying up the things on the table, Chu Luo sincerely apologized to him.

I didn't pay attention to it.

Jin Wuchen, whose complexion had returned to normal, smiled and responded to her.

Looking at him, Chu Luo increasingly felt that most of the rumors about Jin Wuchen were probably false, at least the rumors about his bad temper were not true.

Having been with the Jin family for so long, she had never seen him angry or lose his temper. His emotions had always been very stable, and her fear and prejudice against him had dissipated considerably.

"You get some rest, I'm leaving now," Chu Luo said, then packed her things to go.

Looking at her slender figure, Jin Wuchen really felt that the casserole dish was a bit too big.

"I'll have someone else clean it up. You're so short, carrying such a pot might block your way."

"Oh, okay," Chu Luo replied playfully.

Perhaps it was because the Xunyang Pipa Girl's matter went smoothly, or perhaps it was because the dishes she had worked so hard to prepare were appreciated, that she was in a good mood and was much more lively than usual.

She had no idea how radiant she looked at that moment, her eyes sparkling with light, so vibrant and adorable.

Jin Wuchen's gaze unconsciously followed her until she disappeared through the courtyard gate before he looked away.

For several days in a row, Jin Wuchen stayed at home, which was rare. Chu Luo also did not go out, as she was busy watering flowers and planting herbs in the garden, while he fed fish and played with birds. They had a few peaceful days together.

However, on the second day after Jin Wuchen left home, Chu Luo received a letter from Xiao An pleading for help.

Xiao An would never easily send a message asking for help; something must have happened to her mother, Lu Yifu.

Chu Luo rushed to the Chu family home, but was stopped at the door by an aunt selling fruit.

"Don't go in through the main entrance; it's not safe inside. Xiao An asked me to remind you to be very careful."

"What's going on?" Chu Luo asked, puzzled.

"I don't know. Xiao An rushed out and said something along the way: your mother is no longer with the Chu family."

"What? If not at the Chu family's house, where is it?"

Chu Luo panicked for a moment. After calming herself down, she sneaked into the Chu family home from the backyard and searched the entire house. Sure enough, her mother was not there.

Besides her mother, her father, Madam Hu, Chu Yinmei, was also not in the mansion, and the Chu family had some unfamiliar guards.

Chu Luo, masked, caught a maid and brought her in to ask about the situation. The maid was from Chu Yinmei's courtyard.

The maid was initially loyal, but after Chu Luo fed her some poison, she writhed in pain and quickly confessed.

After hearing the whole story, Chu Luo had never hated Chu Songyuan so much.

But right now, the priority isn't revenge, but rescuing her mother.

Her mother had been taken away two days ago. If her mother were sent to Regent Feng Zhe, it would be a huge problem. She had to act quickly.

Fortunately, Feng Zhe was poisoned by the cherries she had tricked into sending last time, and is currently recuperating outside of Jiangzhou.

The Hu family wanted to curry favor with her mother, so they either had to wait for Feng Zhe to return or knew that Feng Zhe was rushing to deliver her, which gave her some opportunities.

After leaving the Chu family, Chu Luo asked Zhong Fangtang to investigate the whereabouts of the Chu family and the Regent Prince's recuperation.

She guessed that her father was probably also going to ask for a reward. He couldn't miss the chance to get close to an official, especially the regent.

Chu Luo was looking at a map and waiting in the restaurant. The question of where the Regent was recuperating was a troublesome one. The Regent had many places to recuperate, but apart from Mianshui Town, she was not very clear about the specific locations of the others.

Zhongfangtang is becoming increasingly mature, and he replied to her message in just half a day.

Feng Zhe was cunning and shrewd; he only discovered that on the day he left the mansion, five identical carriages simultaneously headed in five different directions.

The Chu family deliberately chose to set off at night, avoiding the waterway. Besides fearing outsiders would find out that he had sold his concubine for personal gain, they were probably also afraid that Chu Luo would go mad and use the Jin family for revenge.

In this way, not many people saw it, and it disappeared without a trace.

After much deliberation, Chu Luo realized that her only options were to send someone to visit Madam Chu's family while simultaneously trying to force them to come out on their own.

Chu Songyuan cared most about fame, fortune, and power. He learned from his brother-in-law Hu Yun that the regent was looking for someone skilled at playing the pipa, so he sent his mother out to seek wealth and honor.

Then she could also use her father's power and influence, which made him care about fame and fortune, to force him out.

The Chu family were merchants. Chu Songyuan was not good at studying; at least he hadn't mastered the basics of propriety, righteousness, integrity, and a sense of shame, so he could only continue doing business.

However, he wasn't very good at business. Fortunately, his ancestors had left him a lot of wealth that he could still manage, which gave him the courage to try and get involved in power.

But if the Chu family's business runs into trouble, and they cut off their supply lines, she doesn't believe he can still hide.

Chu Luo forced herself to calm down; she knew it would work, but she was still somewhat worried.

Once it involves her mother, she finds it hard to remain calm and resentful that she can't be smarter and stronger, able to make perfect plans. At this moment, she thinks of someone: Mu Jintang.

She couldn't sabotage the Chu family's business on her own, so she had to ask for help. The two people she could ask for help from were the Jin family and Xiao Yuanyi and Mu Jintang.

Choosing between the two options, and with Jin Wuchen not around, Chu Luo quickly decided to ask Mu Jintang and the others for help. They needed her assistance, and she could repay the favors she owed them herself.

With Jin Wuchen absent from the Jin family home, she was unsure of the extent to which the Jin family could go.

She was even more uncertain about the weight of her words in the Jin family, and it would be difficult to repay the favors she had done.

Having made her decision, Chu Luo immediately disguised herself as Yin Shan and went to the courtyard that Mu Jintang and the others had bought.

The gatekeeper was very respectful when he saw that it was the person his master had been waiting for.

With Mu Jintang present, Chu Luo wanted to make a deal with them, but Mu Jintang refused to take advantage of their vulnerability.

He was willing to simply help her without asking for any promises from her.

Xiao Yuanyi and Wang Youshi acted entirely on their elder brother's orders, immediately summoning men to take action against the Chu family's business.

"Pass the word down: at any cost, seize both of Chu Songyuan's shops every hour, and make sure he knows exactly who did it."

Three hours later, the shopkeeper of the Chu family knelt down in front of Xiao Yuanyi's residence and begged for mercy.

Xiao Yuanyi told them to pass on a message to Chu Songyuan: "If you want to save the Chu family's shop and don't want to go bankrupt, come find him yourself."

The shopkeeper didn't understand how the Chu family had offended this powerful figure, but he dared not delay for even a moment.

In fact, they had already sent a message to Chu Songyuan at the very beginning of the incident. Chu Songyuan told them to do everything they could to save the shop. Little did they know that Xiao Yuanyi wanted him.

Within an hour, two shops were closed. The Chu family's shop couldn't hold out for long, so they hurriedly ran to find someone to help them.

Seeing that Chu Luo seemed a little uneasy, Mu Jintang asked her if she would like to tell him the reason, and he would think of other solutions for her.

Chu Luo genuinely wanted to learn from Mr. Mu, so she said, "Chu Songyuan intends to give his second wife to Regent Feng Zhe. This second wife of Chu has some connection with me, and her whereabouts are currently unknown. I cannot leave her to fend for herself."

Wang Youshi was furious upon hearing this. "Even a beggar can support a wife and concubine while begging for food. How could he sell his wife for personal gain? How shameless! He is utterly despicable."

"Increase the pressure. If he doesn't send the person back, I'll make sure he has nowhere to beg for food."
