Chapter 96 Old houses still need frequent repairs
"You said you have a friend?" Rowling was originally checking the house, using her special abilities to track down any traces of evil spirits.
Just then, April, the youngest girl in the family, ran over and said she had a secret to tell her.
The little girl nodded earnestly and held up an old-fashioned music box. "This is what he gave me!"
The little girl's face was full of pride, but Rowling keenly sensed something was wrong. The youngest children, because of their fragile hearts, often become the best entry point for evil spirits.
"May I see this gift?" Rowling asked with a gentle smile.
"Here you go!" The little girl carefully handed her precious possession to Rowling.
"Clap!"
Rowling carefully opened the music box. The top of the box was a mirror covered with spiral graffiti, and below it was a spinning clown with exaggerated makeup.
As the music played, the clown occasionally peeked out from inside the box, and the mirror began to spin.
Rowling stared intently at the spinning mirror. Just as she was starting to feel dizzy, she saw through the mirror a pair of bloodshot eyes suddenly appear behind her, seemingly peering out from the doorway!
At first, Rowling thought it was one of Caroline's daughters, but the next second, a pair of blood-red hands suddenly grabbed the door frame, as if they were about to rush out of the door and tear her apart!
In an instant, Rowling's pores stood on end, and she immediately turned around to look, but there was nothing behind her!
"Can I take a look?" Fang Chang had appeared in the room without anyone noticing.
Whether it was a misperception or not, Rowling seemed to see a hint of regret on Fang Chang's face.
The arrival of outsiders made Rowling feel that the terrifying atmosphere from before had dissipated considerably. Without thinking much, she subconsciously handed the music box to Fang Chang.
"Come on, come out and scare me," Fang Chang muttered to himself, then stared at the mirror of the music box, beginning to look forward to it.
The number of ghosts and evil spirits appearing in this storyline is an astonishing six. The usually composed Fangzai decides to defeat them one by one!
So the question now is how to find lone evil spirits.
After staring blankly at the music box for two minutes, Fang Chang felt insulted!
Why don't they come out and scare me? Is scaring people considered sexism? When will men ever stand up again?!
On the second floor, Ed was inspecting each room under the guidance of the male homeowner, Roger.
"This is it. They all say they saw something terrifying here," Roger said wearily, frowning. "But I've checked, and there's nothing here."
Ed patted Roger on the shoulder, signaling him not to rush, and then went into the room.
The dark brown floor and the plain curtains fluttering gently in the breeze made it seem like an ordinary room.
Ed walked to the wall, put his ear against it, and tapped on the wall with both hands, but seemed to find nothing.
"Hmm, this room is interesting." Fang Chang's voice suddenly came from the doorway.
Roger turned to Fang Chang and asked, "What did you discover?" His eyes were filled with anticipation.
In his view, Fang Chang was with the Warrens, and perhaps he could actually discover something.
"Something seems to be hidden here." Fang Chang walked into the room and came to the wardrobe.
“If that’s what you mean,” Ed said, taking off his gloves and putting one hand on his hip, “I just checked, there are no traps inside.”
The kind-hearted Ed wasn't angry that Fang Chang, this "exorcism enthusiast," had interrupted his work.
Instead, he subtly hinted to the chief below that the actual exorcism was not quite what he had imagined.
Sensing the kindness of the good-natured man, Fang Chang returned a smile and asked him to move a little further away from the wardrobe.
then……
"boom--"
Wood chips flew everywhere, and dust filled the air!
Fang Chang retracted his left foot, patted off the dust, and the old wardrobe in front of him now had a hole about the size of a person!
As Ed and his companion stared in disbelief, Fang Chang waved his hand, and as the smoke cleared, a dark passage covered in cobwebs appeared before them.
"I'll go in and take a look first." Without waiting for the two to respond, Fang Chang walked straight into the dark passage, hoping to encounter any evil spirits that hadn't had time to escape.
In the narrow, dark passage, besides cobwebs, there were many other miscellaneous items hanging around. If an ordinary person were to enter, they would probably have to crawl through it on their hands and knees.
But Fangzai was no ordinary person. He walked calmly step by step, and all the debris in his way was pushed aside by an invisible force (tentacles), exuding the aura of a big boss.
Unfortunately, no one came to watch.
Reaching the end of the secret passage, Fang Chang glanced around and sighed with some regret.
Forget about evil spirits, there isn't even a bug here.
After returning to the room, Ed looked hesitant, as if he wanted to ask something but didn't know how to start.
The crowd that rushed over after hearing the noise filled the room, staring in disbelief at the large hole that had suddenly appeared inside.
“It’s not as sturdy as you think.” Fang Chang reached out and gently pressed the wall, breaking off a piece of wall debris with a “snap” sound, indicating that he wasn’t lying. “It’s an old house, so it’s understandable that it’s a bit brittle.”
"So old houses still need regular repairs, otherwise they'll become dilapidated sooner or later!"
"There's no problem here for now. I'll go outside and take another look." Before anyone could ask, Fang Chang walked out of the room and headed towards the lake.
In order not to deceive everyone with clumsy lies, kind-hearted Fangzi chose not to talk to them—I didn't lie to you, I didn't even talk to you!
If I remember correctly, the old tree by the lake was where the witch's evil spirit resided, and the lake water also harbored the ghost of a child who had been killed by the witch—a child who had drowned.
Let's leave the witch for now and save the biggest boss for last. We can try our luck with the kids, though, to see if they're there.
Ripples spread across the lake's surface, and apart from a dilapidated wooden boat on the shore, there was nothing else.
A spiritual vision swept across the lake, revealing wisps of black mist, but no trace of ghosts.
"Could they be hiding?" Fang Chang was losing patience.
I've already devised the perfect crime plan... oops, the operation plan, so why aren't these ghosts following my plan?
Does this mean they look down on Fang?
Surely there can't be something wrong with my plan?
Impossible, absolutely impossible.
Well, let's just take it one step at a time. What's meant to happen will happen eventually.
After several fruitless searches, Fang Chang had no choice but to return inside. Just then, Ed and Rowling needed to take notes of the family.
On the table was a rather old-fashioned recording device. After adjusting it for a while, Ed was about to start asking questions.
Upon seeing Fang Chang return, the group was taken aback, with the male head of the household, Roger, sitting up straight.
This exorcist, who can kick a wall apart with one kick, clearly has a more direct deterrent effect.
Ed opened his mouth as if he wanted to ask something, but then held back. Eccentric people always have their own peculiar quirks, so it's best not to say anything.
"Actually, I'm also a part-time exorcist." Fang Chang couldn't bear to see the nice guy keep quiet, so he simply made up a story. "As a reward for you helping me call a tow truck, I can offer you a little help."
"After all, more people mean more strength, doesn't it?"
Ed was at a loss for words, but his wife, Lorraine, immediately thanked Fang Chang.
Whether it's true or not, it's always good to have more people to help. In the original storyline, they brought their incompetent assistant and a local police officer to exorcise the ghost, just so that more people would mean more strength.
Most importantly, Fang Chang doesn't seem to be just a simple "part-time exorcist".
