The deflated cultivator refused to give up and vowed to turn the tables.
Chapter 242 Fishing on the Road
After having breakfast, Su Zinong took the fishing gear and bait he had bought and went back to the vicinity of the igloo to search around.
"Why do I feel like you're sniffing around like a puppy? Are you looking at feng shui or searching for treasure?" Ou Ruo asked.
“When we’re looking for treasure, we need to observe the aura. We can also observe the aura when fishing. Only by finding the right place can we catch fish,” Su Zinong said.
After a while, he squatted down on a large patch of ice, brushed away the snow, peered under the ice, and said, "Found it, we'll fish here."
This place is now a real road, and many people have walked through it, leaving their footprints everywhere.
Ou Ruo remained unconvinced, quietly watching Su Zinong demonstrate his fishing techniques. She thought to herself: "He's probably just boasting. Let's see how he tries to cover it up!"
Su Zinong borrowed a dagger from He Meimei that could cut through iron like mud, and drew a circle about a foot in size on the two-inch-thick ice. Then, he gently tapped the ice with his left hand, channeling his inner energy, and the circle of ice sank, revealing a slow-moving stream of water beneath it.
Su Zinong baited the fishhook and cast it into the water through the hole.
He Meimei was very smug and made a face at Ou Ruo, as if to say, "You're doomed, get ready to crawl like a tortoise!"
Ou Ruo wore a bitter expression. She couldn't believe such an unbelievable thing had happened—there was actually a river beneath the road. Cutting through the frozen ice would allow her to fish; she had truly miscalculated.
But Su Zinong fished and fished for half an hour, and still hadn't caught a single fish.
At this moment, Aurora became smug and arrogant, laughing as she said, "You two siblings are so clever, conspiring to trick me into imitating a tortoise. Although you can find a river to fish in along the way, you still need to have the skill to catch a fish. You'd better get ready to learn to crawl like a tortoise!"
"There's nothing we can do. The water is probably too cold. The fish want to eat, but the bait is probably frozen," Su Zinong said.
After a moment's thought, he slowly channeled pure Yang energy into the fishing line to keep the line, hook, and bait warm.
Sure enough, in less than fifteen minutes, Su Zinong caught a big, fat, and lively fish that was a full three feet long.
Another quarter of an hour passed, and Su Zinong had caught a total of three big fish.
"Is that enough to eat?" Su Zinong asked.
“That’s more than enough!” the two women said in unison.
“It’s so nice to have a man who can hunt and fish. If we women only eat at restaurants, we’d never think about hunting or fishing. It would be so much less fun,” He Meimei said.
“Yes, you know men are good, so why don’t you hurry up and get married?” Ou Ruo said.
“You’re older than me and still not married, why are you pressuring me?” He Meimei said.
“Eating at a restaurant is fine too, it’s convenient to wash your hands and feet, and it’s not troublesome,” Su Zinong said.
“Each has its own merits,” Ou Ruo said.
Su Zinong said, "You have hunted in the desert and seen people fishing on the road, but have you ever tried roasting fish over a fire in an igloo?"
The two girls, of course, had never tried it.
"Won't that melt the igloo?" Ou asked.
"Try it and you'll see!" Su Zinong smiled, feigning mystery.
After he gutted the fish, he sprinkled in seasonings and then actually built a fairly large fire inside the igloo. The fish was placed on the fire to roast, and soon a fragrant aroma filled the air.
He Meimei had already bought the wine and was keeping it warm by the fire.
"Sweetie, a bet is a bet. If you lose, why don't you hurry up and go outside and learn to crawl like a tortoise?" He Meimei shouted.
"You're really my nemesis!" Ou Ruo was about to step out of the ice house.
"Wait, wait! Don't start yet, I'm going to get something." He Meimei smiled and took a pot of warm wine from beside the fire, uncorked it and took a sip. Then she sat on the threshold of the igloo, ready to watch the exciting scene unfold.
Ou shouted, "Don't push your luck!"
"Are you going to climb or not? It's so cold outside. If you don't climb, I'm going inside to get some grilled fish!" He Meimei shouted.
Even after Ou Ruo climbed over the wall, she still kept her promise. That's because she believed that He Meimei would also keep her promise if she lost.
He Meimei was already doubled over with laughter, almost spitting out the wine she had just drunk.
"Great performance, truly a natural performance!" He Meimei praised, giving a thumbs up.
Afraid that Ou Ruo would be unhappy, Su Zinong quickly called out, "It's snowing and cold outside, come in and warm yourself by the fire, we're getting ready to eat grilled fish!"
When Ou Ruo came in, her head and eyebrows were covered with snow and ice crystals, which Su Zinong gently brushed away.
He Meimei, who was standing to the side, said, "Brother, don't be biased, help me brush it off too."
Helpless, Su Zinong could only brush away the snowflakes and ice shards from He Meimei's head and eyebrows.
“If you two are going to fight like this, don’t fight over the fish later!” Su Zinong said.
The fish in that glacial river were so plump and sizzling as they were roasted over the fire.
It was baked in no time, and the aroma was wonderful. It was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and incredibly delicious.
As she ate, her ears twitched, completely forgetting how heartbroken she had been yesterday and the embarrassing state of her crawling like a tortoise.
He Meimei secretly gave Su Zinong a thumbs up, and Su Zinong smiled smugly.
"What are you doing secretly? Are you planning something against me again?" Ou Ruo asked.
Su Zinong quickly waved his hand and said, "No, no, my sister praised my grilled fish, but I said it was just so-so, nothing more."
“I don’t believe you! You two are so mean! Of course your grilled fish is delicious, and I find the fish here to be especially fresh,” said Aurora.
“There’s nothing we can do if you don’t believe us!” He Meimei said.
"Actually, I know you two were just trying to comfort me, using the fishing bet and grilled fish on the way to distract me. Don't worry, I won't cry anymore," Aurora said calmly.
“Have you ever thought that women don’t necessarily have to be with men? They can live vibrant and fulfilling lives and achieve great things on their own. Who says women are inferior to men?” He Meimei said.
“You’re right. I understand that the young master may not end up with me, and for now I’m just living for the moment and not worrying about tomorrow,” Ou Ruo said. “But if you think you can fool me into giving up and letting you have your way, you’re dreaming! Don’t think I’m stupid!” Ou Ruo shouted.
“I don’t need your approval. I’m the younger sister, and no one can take me away from me. Right, brother?” He Meimei said.
“Of course, you are my only sister.” Su Zinong nodded in agreement.
"I don't believe you're willing to be a younger sister for the rest of your life. Even this grilled fish in my hand doesn't believe your nonsense!" Ou Ruo said.
The three of them ate and chatted, warmed themselves by the fire and drank wine. They ate for an hour and finished all three large fish and all three jugs of wine.
Of course, Su Zinong ate the most; such a big fish was more than two women could finish.
“Sigh, if I go back to the Heavenly Demon Sect and tell people we were fishing on the road and even grilling fish in an ice house, no one will believe me. What kind of strange and unbelievable things are these?” Ou Ruo said.
"If others don't believe it, so be it. Why should we care?" Su Zinong said with a smile.
Suddenly, Ou Ruo asked, "Young master, if the sorceress and I both fell into the river at the same time, and the situation became critical, who would you save first?"
Upon hearing this, Su Zinong's heart skipped a beat. He thought to himself, "This is going to be difficult. This is clearly a death trap question. It puts me in a dilemma, and no matter how I answer, it seems like I'll offend someone."
After much deliberation, Su Zinong replied, "I will save them first..."
