Travel to the mountains and make a fortune in silence
Chapter 16 Fighting 1
She went to the market to buy some cotton cloth and cotton.
While packing her things that day, she saw several of the original owner's menstrual belts. She guessed they had been used for too long, as they felt hard to the touch and would certainly not be comfortable to use.
She recalled the original owner's menstrual period dates, and after a quick calculation, she realized that it would be back in just over ten days. She needed to hurry and buy some materials to make a few more.
In addition, she felt that the variety of vegetables in this area was really scarce. There were no chili peppers, potatoes, loofahs, pumpkins, or various green vegetables.
She especially loved chili peppers; she used to be someone who couldn't live without them, and if a dish didn't have chili peppers, it felt like it had lost its soul.
Also, there aren't many varieties of fruit. Many of the kinds she likes aren't available. She'll have to go to a seed shop to see if she can find what she wants.
Before long, the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law each carried a basket on their backs, and Wang Cuiying locked the gate.
Wang Cuiying went to the vegetable garden next door to greet Zhou and handed her the key to the gate.
When Zhou heard that it was her granddaughter-in-law who wanted to go, she readily agreed and even took out fifty coins from her bosom to give to Wang Cuiying.
The mule cart would always wait for someone in the middle of the village, partly because the driver, Da Zhuang, lived in the middle of the village, and the mule cart would stop at the entrance of his yard.
It has to be said that the Mu family lived in a really remote place; it took the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law about fifteen minutes to get to the center of the village.
They met many people on the way, and Wang Cuiying introduced them to Wang Qing'er one by one. They were all women like grandmothers, aunts, and sisters-in-law walking around in the village, and she greeted them all.
Wang Cuiying helped her daughter-in-law onto the mule cart and found that there were already seven or eight people inside. They all greeted them warmly when they got on.
"Cuiying, come sit here." A woman of similar age to Wang Cuiying patted the empty seat next to her and invited her to sit down.
“Okay, Sister Hua.” Wang Cuiying didn’t stand on ceremony and pulled Wang Qing’er to sit down.
"Oh, this must be Mu Nan's new bride! She's really pretty!" a woman said, looking at Wang Qing'er.
"Qing'er, this is your Aunt Huang," Wang Cuiying introduced, pointing to the woman who had just spoken.
Wang Qing'er obediently called out "Aunt Huang," and Wang Cuiying then pulled the woman next to her who had just called her "Sister Hua" and introduced her, "This is your Aunt Hua."
Aunt Hua was Wang Cuiying's very close friend. Even after the Mu family fell into decline, the two remained close, and Aunt Hua lent a lot of money to the Mu family.
Wang Qing'er called out obediently and greeted the other aunts and sisters-in-law one by one!
"Cuiying, that's not right of you. You didn't even say anything when your new daughter-in-law came in. We heard people say that Mu Nan had found a wife, but we all thought it was still early, so we didn't even send a gift or anything," Aunt Hua said with some complaint.
"Sister Hua, no one told anyone. Mu Nan went to pick her up herself, and there weren't any ceremonies. It's just that our Qing'er has to go through so much trouble." Wang Cuiying said, gently patting Wang Qing'er's hand.
"Mother, don't say that. Keeping things simple is good. I don't care about those things," Wang Qing'er quickly comforted her mother-in-law.
"Oh, this girl has a silver tongue. But then again, what girl doesn't want to get married in style? To marry into a family like this without a matchmaker or dowry, not only is the man divorced, but he also has a daughter to carry on his family. She'll be a stepmother as soon as she enters the door. What good girl would want that?"
The speaker was a thin woman with freckles all over her face and dark skin. She had a pointed mouth and monkey-like face, and was the epitome of a mean and sarcastic person.
When Wang Qing'er called her just now, she put on a disdainful look.
Wang Qing'er couldn't be bothered to argue with her. They didn't see each other often anyway, so why get angry over someone who was irrelevant to her?
But Wang Cuiying, who was standing next to her, was so angry that she gritted her teeth and shouted, "Zhang Xianglan, if you dare to talk nonsense again, I'll tear your mouth apart so you can never speak again!"
"You dare! Wang Cuiying, come on, if you have the guts, come and tear me apart! What did I say wrong? Isn't your eldest son remarried? Didn't his previous wife run off with someone else? Isn't your Yao girl Mu Nan's daughter? Which of my words isn't true?" Zhang Xianglan didn't back down either, and her insults became even more offensive.
"You...you...I...I'll tear you apart today!" Wang Cuiying was so angry she was incoherent. Like an enraged lion, she pounced on Zhang Xianglan. Soon, the two were wrestling.
Aunt Hua stepped forward to break up the fight, but while she appeared to be mediating, she was actually helping Wang Cuiying scratch Zhang Xianglan, shouting, "Oh, Cuiying, stop hitting her! Stop hitting her! You know how foul-mouthed she is, don't get yourself worked up, let go!"
It's unknown whether Zhang Xianglan, who was covering her head and had nowhere to hide, noticed that two hands were scratching her.
Wang Qing'er watched in disbelief, "There are people who break up fights like this?" The other women in the car, however, seemed unfazed, all looking on with amusement, and none of them stepped in to stop the fight.
Wang Qing'er had only ever seen people who pretended to break up fights, but actually held onto the person tightly so that they couldn't move, allowing the other person in the fight to take the opportunity to hit them.
But she had never seen someone shout "let go" while actually helping to scratch others, and Aunt Hua's actions even seemed to be more forceful than her mother's.
This move really shocked Wang Qing'er so much that her jaw almost dropped.
Wang Qing'er was afraid that Zhang Xianglan would really get seriously injured, which would be a real problem, so she went over to pull her mother-in-law and Aunt Hua away, "Mother, don't hit her!"
Aunt Hua, seeing that it was about time, quickly went to pull Wang Cuiying away, "Cuying, stop! Stop hitting her!"
The two of them worked together and with great effort managed to pull Wang Cuiying away. Zhang Xianglan was beaten so badly that she could only sit on the floor of the mule cart like an ostrich, covering her head.
She kept cursing, "Wang Cuiying, your previous daughter-in-law cheated on your eldest son and eloped with someone. Maybe Yao'er isn't even a child of your Mu family. Your new wife will run away with someone sooner or later too."
Upon hearing this, Wang Cuiying became furious again and pounced on her like a tiger, grabbing her hair.
