Quick Transmigration: Let Me Tell You, I'm a Social Anxiety Person

Chapter 8 After being locked in a dark room by a paranoid and jealous man (8)

The rain is getting heavier.

Fortunately, there were no classes in the afternoon. The curtains in the dormitory were drawn and the lights were turned off, creating a dim environment suitable for sleeping. My roommates all crawled into bed.

Before climbing into bed, Wen Ying glanced one last time at the black coat hanging beside the bed.

The air was a bit humid; water molecules probably seeped into Ikeno's coat.

It seems I'll have to wash the clothes once the weather clears up.

Wen Ying changed into her pajamas and sat on the bed.

I took out my phone and scrolled through my WeChat Moments. Zhao Qi had posted a status update fifty minutes ago, which was a music sharing post with the caption: "The most beautiful thing is not a rainy day, but the eaves where we shelter from the rain together."

Wen Ying couldn't figure out who he had gone to take shelter from the rain with; maybe it was some "Yan Yan".

She absentmindedly gave Zhao Qi a thumbs up, and when she refreshed the page, she found Chi Ye's avatar above her, accompanied by a small red dot.

Just now, Chi Ye also gave Zhao Qi a thumbs up.

Their portraits were side by side under that lyrical caption, and Wen Ying recalled the scene of walking together with Chi Ye under an umbrella.

A strange feeling welled up inside me again.

She had just felt she was being somewhat immoral when, a second later, Zhao Qi deleted the post on his WeChat Moments and sent a message that only served to cover up his actions: "Baby, what are you doing?"

Wen Ying was stunned for a moment; the feeling of moral depravity vanished before she could even grasp it.

At that moment, she just found it funny; Zhao Qi was acting, and she was pretending too.

Pretending to know nothing: "Taking a nap."

She didn't mention the deleted post on WeChat Moments, so Zhao Qi pretended nothing had happened.

Zhao Qi: "It's Thursday today. How about we go out for dinner together tomorrow night? I know a really great restaurant that you'll love."

Wen Ying wasn't too keen on going, so she casually asked, "Are there any other people having dinner with us?"

Zhao Qi said yes, but he immediately added, "Don't worry, they're just some close buddies. They know I have a stunningly beautiful girlfriend and want to use this meal to get to know you. Honey, give me a break, okay?"

Wen Ying looked at the long string of words that appeared on the screen, but didn't rush to reply.

Sure enough, Zhao Qi came up with another reason she couldn't refuse: "Besides, tomorrow is my birthday! It's your boyfriend's birthday, how can you bear to miss it?" He sent a series of cute and flirtatious emojis.

Wen Ying asked the system: "Is tomorrow really his birthday?"

The system paused for a moment: [His birthday is on Mid-Autumn Festival, which is still a long way off. It's just an excuse to get you to go out... But you should still go. It's necessary for the plot, and besides, with me here, you won't be in any danger.]

Wen Ying had no choice but to agree.

However, if you're going to put on an act, you have to go all the way. Zhao Qi said tomorrow is his birthday, and as his "girlfriend," Wen Ying couldn't possibly not prepare a birthday gift for him.

It was too late to buy it online, so she decided to wait until the rain stopped before going out.

Wen Ying set an alarm for an hour later, and when she woke up, the rain had just stopped.

Her roommates' bed curtains were tightly closed. She quietly tidied herself up and went out fully prepared.

Wen Ying went to the shopping mall closest to the school, which only took fifteen minutes by taxi.

She was very lucky this time. The taxi driver she met was a taciturn man who didn't say a word from beginning to end. Even when he was squeezed into lanes by other cars, he didn't open the window or yell at anyone.

The habit of watching horror movies while waiting at a red light is terrifying.

"We've arrived," the driver finally managed to say when they reached their destination.

Wen Ying got out of the car amidst the screams of the female ghost crawling out of the well. The driver immediately turned around and sped away.

She seemed even more afraid of communicating with people than she was.

Wen Ying walked into the mall. The number of people was not large on a weekday, and even though she wasn't wearing a hat today, she didn't feel particularly nervous.

However, after buying her birthday present, she plans to also visit a boutique and buy herself a hat.

This is a necessity for her.

Wen Ying took the elevator to the second floor and strolled around on her own without looking at the mall's floor plan.

There are more clothing stores on the second floor, but the clothes in the mall are priced a bit higher. Although she works part-time, it's almost the end of the month, and her living expenses may not be enough.

Besides, she really didn't know how to choose clothes for boys.

The sales assistant at the store in front was very enthusiastic, and Wen Ying couldn't refuse, so she went into the store.

The interior is decorated in warm colors, with a soft mat covering the wooden floor, and several uniquely shaped large beds in the corner, indicating that this is a furniture store.

Wen Ying felt that this kind of store probably wouldn't have anything she wanted to buy, but she couldn't bring herself to leave under the watchful eyes of the sales assistants right after entering...

She had no choice but to stop herself from turning around and decided to wander around inside.

After passing various beds and tables and chairs, several shelves with many electrical appliances came into view.

The sales assistant followed behind and explained, "Our store is a combination of two shops, and we also sell some home appliances and household goods."

Wen Ying thought she couldn't very well give Zhao Qi an air fryer, so she looked around and her gaze fell on one of the shelves: "Is that a razor?"

"Yes, would you like to take a look?" The sales assistant led her over. "Let me recommend something to you?"

Wen Ying nodded.

The sales assistant then began her introduction, using a lot of technical jargon about the product's features: "However, if you're planning to buy this as a gift for relatives or elders, I recommend this one..."

Wen Ying felt a little dizzy from listening, but the price recommended by the sales assistant was close to what she expected, so she said, "Then I'll take this one."

"Okay, I'll take it and wrap it up for you," the sales assistant said. "Here's the checkout."

Wen Ying followed her toward the cashier, where two other people were standing.

One of them, also a sales assistant, was saying to the person next to her, "If you need it urgently, we can deliver it to your door tonight..."

The other person replied, "No rush."

The voice sounded familiar, and the profile of the person turning around was even more so.

Wen Ying blurted out: "Chiye?"

Perhaps his clothes got wet from the rain at noon, because he had changed into a dark coat that made him look even more upright and mature.

Chi Ye's gaze then fell on her, pausing for a second: "Wen Ying."

Wen Ying found it somewhat amusing that they always had to greet each other in this back-and-forth manner whenever they met.

Having met quite a few times, she automatically included Chi Ye in her circle of acquaintances, and became much more relaxed when talking to him: "You're here to buy things too?"

Ikeno then glanced at the already wrapped gift box in her hand.

The sales assistant asked from the side, "By the way, ma'am, we also provide greeting cards. Would you like to write something on them?"

Wen Ying: "Let's just write 'Happy Birthday'."

The sales assistant took out a pen: "Okay, would you like to write it yourself?"

Wen Ying shook her head: "No need."

Since it's just a formality anyway, and tomorrow isn't Zhao Qi's real birthday, she doesn't feel the need to write a sincere blessing for Zhao Qi in person.

The sales assistant started writing, Wen Ying watched from the side, and Chi Ye didn't leave either.

"Happy birthday?" he suddenly asked.

Wen Ying responded and took the greeting card: "It's Zhao Qi's birthday tomorrow, I'm giving him a gift."

Out of the corner of her eye, Chi Ye seemed to frown briefly, but when Wen Ying looked up, she felt that it was just an illusion.

Ikeno's expression was indifferent, and it was unclear what he was thinking.

Wen Ying was about to tell him that she was leaving when she heard Chi Ye speak to the staff again.

"Please deliver it to me tonight," he said. "It's urgent, thank you."
