Quick Transmigration: Let Me Tell You, I'm a Social Anxiety Person

Chapter 116 The Manual of Taming a Morbid Mermaid (6)

The rain had stopped and the sky had cleared, but the moon hadn't come out; only scattered stars hung in the dark blue sky.

After putting the performance equipment back in the storage room, Xia Yin took a quick look around the bar before leisurely strolling out with two high school students.

None of the three knew the exact location of the barbecue restaurant, so they could only identify it by smell. After sniffing around, Chen Ge still had the most accurate sense of direction, and Xia Yin praised him as a dog with a keen sense of smell.

Normally, Chen Ge would have turned around and made the universally accepted friendly gesture, but tonight he was too hungry to express his anger. He just glanced coldly at Xia Yin with the whites of his eyes and walked forward with his hands in his pockets.

When we finally arrived at the restaurant, we realized that the barbecue restaurant was actually quite close to the bar, less than 400 meters away as the crow flies. However, we had to navigate through the alley, and it took us quite a while just to take the detour.

At midnight, the tables inside the store were still packed with people, and there were only seats available under the white awning outside, but they were also shoulder to shoulder.

Xia Yin looked around and found a two-person table. Just as he was about to ask the owner to add an extra stool, he turned his head and realized that there was no one next to him.

Chen Ge led Wen Yingchao to the tree, where a table was set up, almost touching the roadside. The tabletop was a mess, with glistening oil stains visible.

"This place hasn't been cleaned up yet," Wen Ying said.

Chen Ge looked around, pulled out a tissue from the table, and swept the trash into the bin.

"Hey." Wen Ying looked at his clothes, which were almost stained with oil. "Let the waiter come and clean them up." An aunt wearing an apron passed by and waved her hand.

Chen Ge stopped what he was doing and paused stiffly, but when the aunt came over with her accent, his body relaxed again.

Wen Ying, watching from the opposite side, asked with some confusion, "What's wrong? Did you see someone you know?" Otherwise, why would she have pulled her to sit in such a secluded spot?

Chen Ge: "Didn't you see it?"

"Who is it?" Wen Ying also raised her eyes and searched quite seriously for a while. She could only see colorful clothes shrouded in the steam, and an unfamiliar face reflected in the dim light. She joked, "Your crush?"

Chen Ge: "..." He pursed his lips and remained silent, but his eyes betrayed a hint of speechlessness.

Not far away, Xia Yin stood next to the freezer, calling their names, hands on her hips: "You two ran so far, what are you going to drink? Aren't you going to come and get it or wait for me to bring it to you!"

“You’re here.” Wen Ying stood up, while Chen Ge stubbornly remained seated, pretending to be a statue.

Wen Ying didn't know what was bothering him; perhaps he had really run into someone he didn't want to see.

A few tables away, Xia Yin loudly read from the menu: "No fish soup, huh... two more servings of grilled pig brains! Make them in half an hour, take them to go." Clearly, she was still thinking about giving Wang Ziming a boost in brainpower.

Wen Ying found it somewhat amusing and walked over.

As she passed a table, a middle-aged man with bare arms suddenly stood up to offer a toast, swaying unsteadily as if he were quite drunk. When Wen Ying walked to the left, he would toast to the left; when Wen Ying walked to the right, he would go to the right to call out to his friends. He was so unsteady that it was hard not to doubt whether he could even hold a glass.

Wen Ying paused, the man was still backing away, almost stepping on her. The wine spilled from the plastic cup, but it didn't spill on her. An arm reached out from behind her and pulled her to the side.

"This way," the person behind us said.

The scent of soap wafted past her nose; the other person seemed to have just washed their hands. Wen Ying lowered her eyes and saw the wet watermarks on his forearm, accompanied by undulating blue veins.

"Thank you," she said.

The other party did not reply, nor did they care about the water stains on their arms. Someone called out from inside, so he took a calculator and a ballpoint pen and went into the store, put the items on the counter, picked up a basket of beer, and delivered it to the customer.

Wen Ying withdrew her gaze.

She walked over to Xia Yin, took two bottles of soda from the refrigerator, and thought Xia Yin would want beer, but she only picked a bottle of coconut juice, hooked two fingers together and returned to her seat.

The desk had been cleaned up, and Chen Ge was sitting on the side playing on his phone when Xia Yin slapped him on the back of the head mercilessly: "Are you just sitting here waiting for food? Still playing on your phone, take out your homework and do it."

Chen Ge: "..."

He wanted to protest but was glared at fiercely. He took out the test paper, which had been folded into a small square, from his pants pocket and slowly unfolded it on the table.

Wen Ying chuckled beside him, a straw in her mouth. Xia Yin glanced at her with a cool look, and Wen Ying pulled her chair toward Chen Ge, saying obediently, "I'll teach him."

Xia Yin didn't know how good her teaching was, and she had never seen her report card, but she was quite satisfied to see the two high school students studying so hard.

"That's more like it. You two study hard and get into top universities. Then we'll be a highly educated band."

Xia Yin took out her phone, took a picture, and posted it on her WeChat Moments, looking like a parent who was pleased with their child's hard work and couldn't help but show off.

Chen Ge showed a disgusted expression, but he didn't flinch when the shutter clicked. Wen Ying lowered her head to explain the problem, and he tilted his head to listen, though it was unclear how much he understood.

A few minutes later, the barbecue was served one by one. The test paper, which had only had two questions explained, was folded into a small triangle and put back into Chen Ge's pocket.

It took them half an hour to walk over to eat, but the actual meal didn't take long. The three of them had spent the summer together, and they could talk about anything they wanted to say at other times, so they especially followed the rule of not speaking while eating or sleeping at the dinner table.

The iced soda was gone, and the last two servings of pig brains were brought out. Wen Ying had never seen this before, and she looked at it with a mixture of curiosity and reluctance.

Chen Ge was also watching, which Xia Yin misunderstood as him liking it: "Should I serve you two portions too?"

Both of them shook their heads in unison.

Xia Yin was overjoyed. There was some barbecue left on the table, so she asked the waiter for a takeaway box and asked him to come and settle the bill.

"Just a moment." The waiter, who had been stopped by her, hurried along.

“There’s no rehearsal tomorrow. You two can just stay home and do your homework,” Xia Yin said. “I’m planning to look for a new driving school. I kept failing the test before, so it must be the instructor who’s teaching me who’s the problem.”

“That makes a lot of sense,” Wen Ying nodded.

Xia Yin turned her gaze to Chen Ge, who raised his eyebrows, and she threw a bottle cap at him: "What's your opinion?"

The blow landed squarely between Chen Ge's eyebrows, causing a slight pain. Chen Ge was about to deliver an angry speech, but halfway through raising his hand, a figure emerged from the room, carrying a payment code and a calculator, and walked towards their table.

Chen Ge put his hand down and turned his head sharply. Wen Ying noticed his action but didn't have time to ask "What's wrong?" Chen Ge suddenly realized that she was there and pressed her down to crawl under the table with him.

Completely bewildered, but forced to squat down and bury her head in the sand like an ostrich: "..."

"What's wrong?" she mouthed.

Chen Ge: "There's someone there."

Wen Ying blinked. Of course she knew someone was there. It was the person in charge of settling the bill. She could hear the person's voice through the table and the "beep" sound of Xia Yin scanning the QR code to pay.

She turned her head and saw a pair of canvas shoes that had been washed until they were shiny, looking completely out of place against the oil-stained, almost unrecognizable floor tiles.

The speaker had a very pleasant voice. Whether out of politeness or fatigue, the volume and pace of his speech were slowed down, and the sound entered my ears from a distance, like the cool, thin mist that lingered by a stream before dawn.

This voice is quite suitable for singing. Wen Ying thought, while also diverting some attention to Chen Ge, and continued to mouth the question, "Why are you avoiding him?"

Chen Ge: "It would be awkward."

He typed on his phone in a serious tone, explaining: "If you worked at this shop until very late without even a break, and the person ordering your food late at night was a classmate, wouldn't you feel embarrassed?"

Wen Ying tried to imagine it, but found that she couldn't, since she couldn't even recognize the faces of her classmates.
