This Life's Song: The Genius Rune Master

Chapter 69 Snow Wolf's Defeat

Black Feather was furious; it had actually lost to a wolf, which was utterly despicable.

Lianxue killed a snow wolf with a single dagger, then turned around and watched the two little ones sparring, finding it adorable.

Two more silver wolves attacked from the side, but she calmly drew her dagger, and blood stained the snow, the striking color appearing in the white world.

Looking up into the distance, the ground was stained crimson, like blood-red roses quietly blooming.

Black Feather was not convinced and killed two snow wolves in one go. It leaped nimbly, relying on its small and agile body to weave through the wolf pack.

Black Feather's claws revealed sharp nails, and with each attack, it left deep, bone-piercing scratches on its opponent, causing the Snow Wolf to tremble in pain.

Another snow wolf attacked from behind, its claws equally sharp. Another one appeared in front of Black Feather, attempting to attack from both sides. Black Feather flashed and appeared under the belly of the snow wolf in front of him, its four claws gripping him tightly.

The wolf's howl was no longer loud; it turned into a whimpering plea for mercy.

Bai Lang wasn't idle either; while wiping out one, he didn't forget to turn back and give Hei Yu a disdainful look.

Seeing this, Black Feather, who was under the Snow Wolf's belly, was so angry that it dug its claws deeper, raised its left front paw and slashed hard, causing the Snow Wolf to let out a painful cry.

Those of their kind nearby trembled at the sight and retreated far away, all running to Bai Lang and Lian Xue's side.

The Snow Wolf thought that Black Feather was the most difficult to deal with, and instead considered the human to be food, something delicious that had to be taken down.

As for Bai Lang, he was of the same kind as himself.

The simplest law in the wolf world is survival of the fittest. Competition among their own kind is the most brutal, and leaders are often made through fierce battles. Therefore, they are not afraid, but only become more courageous in the face of setbacks.

Even the most powerful immortals would find it difficult to escape when surrounded.

Bai Lang was injured to varying degrees, and his fur was stained with blood, the streaks of red so glaringly obvious.

Lianxue kicked a snow wolf away, and when she turned around, she saw Bai Lang covered in blood. She was filled with guilt, self-loathing, and a deep sense of powerlessness.

Bai Lang had a contract with Lian Xue, so it could sense its master's feelings and Lian Xue's guilt. It immediately said, "Master, while we are protecting you, we are also protecting ourselves. There is nothing to apologize for. Besides, my master is already very good and needs no further explanation."

After Bai Lang finished speaking, he continued fighting. Lian Xue listened to Bai Lang's words and forced a smile. Just a moment ago, in her daze, she was also ambushed by the Snow Wolf. Her left arm was bitten and a piece of flesh was torn off. Lian Xue held back the tears in her eyes.

Ignoring the stinging pain in her arm, she threw out four talismans, immobilizing the snow wolf. She then used her dagger to cut open the hem of her skirt, tore off a strip of cloth, bit one end with her teeth, and wrapped it tightly around her right hand, tying it into a knot in one swift motion.

After Lianxue finished bandaging, the wolf pack began to stir again.

Black Feather moved like lightning among the silver wolves in the snow, leaving death or howling in its wake.

Hei Yu said bluntly, "Little girl, don't get distracted, or I'll take the Phoenix Bracelet with me."

When Bai Lang saw Lian Xue, she was still as dejected as ever. Seeing her injured, he felt a slight pang of pain in his heart, even though he had only given in after being defeated.

However, it received a gift from its owner, the first gift it had ever received in its life. So it regarded her as its true owner and took her to heart, not wanting to see her get hurt.

Bai Lang bit off the neck of a snow wolf and said again, "After Master goes out, I want more gifts, and lots and lots of delicious food."

Lianxue was startled by Heiyu's words. Yes, why should she give up? Even if there is only a sliver of hope, she should still try her best, shouldn't she?

Upon hearing Bai Lang's words, she revealed a long-lost smile, "Okay, buy lots of delicious food." Ignoring the pain in her left hand, she slid down, sending up countless snowflakes that swept across the wolf's leg. The silver wolf's front paw was swept away, and it collapsed to the ground.

Hei Yu scratched open another one, and upon hearing Lian Xue's reply, she became anxious, "Why is it only hers? What about me?"

Lianxue fumbled for a healing pill and swallowed it. Looking at the menacing wolf pack around her, she smiled and said, "Alright! Everyone gets one, including you."

Black Feather licked its paw, raised its tail high, held its head high, and meowed, "That's more like it."

After saying that, they attacked again, and finally, after nearly three hours, the wolf pack was routed, with only a dozen or so remaining and running away in disgrace.

Lianxue was exhausted. In fact, she couldn't hold on for much longer, at most half an hour. After half an hour, she would definitely collapse and be devoured by the snow wolves.

Fortunately, they were scared of being beaten, otherwise they would have been in big trouble.

Looking up at his companions, he saw that they were all working hard to defend him from the enemy. At this moment, they had become his most important family members.

Seeing Hei Yu stagger and fall, Lian Xue moved her heavy feet to check on him. Fortunately, he was just exhausted and not in any danger. His feathers were stained red and knotted, and they no longer had their previous soft texture. Lian Xue felt a pang of heartache.

Holding Hei Yu in her arms, she looked at Bai Lang, who was further away. Bai Lang wasn't much better off either; his white fur was tangled in clumps, and he had several deep wounds on his body that revealed the bone.

Lianxue walked over and gently touched Bailang's wound, feeling heartbroken.

Bai Lang was also lying on the ground at this moment, and the snow on the ground turned into red ice crystals, which scattered one by one.

Bai Lang's voice sounded weak in Lian Xue's mind, as if he were very tired, "Master, I'm fine, I just need to rest for a bit."

Tears welled up in Lianxue's eyes. She realized how wonderful it felt to be valued and protected. Her master loved her dearly, but without experiencing life and death together, she couldn't truly understand. At this moment, she desperately wanted to find her master again.

Lianxue gently stroked Bai Lang's head and said, "Go back to your space to rest first, and come out again when your injuries have healed."

Bai Lang looked up at Lian Xue, seemingly a little worried, "Then Master... be careful."

The echo lingered as Bai Lang vanished. Looking at the mess before her, Lian Xue carried Hei Yu and walked away into the distance.

Kuroba slowly opened his eyes. "Your injuries, which I had finally managed to recover from, have gotten worse again because of you. You'll have to compensate me double when we get out of here."

Looking at the listless Hei Yu, Lian Xue still managed to negotiate, and a warm feeling washed over her. "Okay, I agree."

Kuroba opened one eye wide and said, "No! I want three times the food. I'll never talk to you again if you don't give me three times the food." After saying that, she closed her eyes again and fell into a deep sleep.

Lianxue felt even more affection for Heiyu and hugged it tighter, afraid it would fall or get cold. "Okay, then three times, four times is fine too," she said, as if talking to herself.

He walked slowly forward, looking for a sheltered place to recover from his injuries and draw more talismans, otherwise how would he deal with the next enemy?
