Ahhhhh, high-altitude survival!

Chapter 4, Binding the Cheat Code

The box looked quite large, but it contained surprisingly little. Only two bottles of mineral water and a bag of soda crackers lay there forlornly, looking rather pitiful.

A system notification sounded immediately afterward: [Wooden crate opened. Received 2 bottles of mineral water, 1 soda cracker, and 1 unit of unknown energy.]

Unknown energy?

what?

Lin Yue was a little confused; she had only seen cookies and water!

Puzzled, Lin Yue examined the wooden box again more closely. After careful observation, she finally discovered a barely noticeable pattern in the corner of the box. The pattern looked like sunlight, as if it had grown naturally inside the box. Could this be the so-called unknown energy?

Lin Yue curiously reached out and touched the pattern, only to find it soft, light as a feather, and even a little hot to the touch, clearly not the pattern of the box itself. She carefully peeled off the pattern and examined it closely.

Just then, a sudden, mechanical voice rang out again.

"[Ding! Matching host detected, connecting...]"

Lin Yue's eyes widened suddenly.

This time, the voice didn't appear overhead like before, but was transmitted directly into her head, and she seemed to feel a strange sense of familiarity about it.

What is it this time?

system?

Or is it a portable space?

Is it something that happens to everyone, or did I just get incredibly lucky?

Lin Yue's finger froze in mid-air, a hint of secret joy inevitably rising in her heart.

[Ding! Connection successful, binding in progress...]

[Binding successful! 】

Lin Yue felt a surge of heat in her head, and then she felt a scroll slowly unfolding in her mind.

It was a scene she knew very well: a lush green meadow in the background. In the upper left corner, there was a prominent indicator—[Energy: 25]. The first cell was lit up, containing a sunflower swaying its head.

This color scheme...

This style of painting...

These lines...

Isn't this the Plants vs. Zombies game she was having so much fun playing on the bus?!

That old-fashioned game, which she'd had since middle school, was also Lin Yue's go-to tool for slacking off at work. The weapons in it were all anthropomorphized vegetables and fruits like peas, corn, and watermelons, and it was once a viral sensation online for its rich illustrations and adorable art style.

Before the bus accident, she was only one level away from passing the final challenge.

Upon seeing this familiar image, Lin Yue suddenly remembered that the last thing she saw on her retina before being knocked unconscious by the phone was a sunflower shooting out sunlight!

So, being knocked unconscious by a phone actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise?

Lin Yue's expression became complicated for a moment, a mixture of joy and regret.

If she had known that this would give her a cheat code, why would she have played Plants vs. Zombies?

It would be so great for her to play a cultivation game, flying through the air on a sword, without having to be afraid of high altitudes at all!

If all else fails, playing a farming game would be nice, or at the very least, catching geese would be an option; that way, at least we wouldn't have to worry about food for now!

However, if she had known all this beforehand, she definitely wouldn't have gotten on that bus, and then there would be no point in talking about any "golden finger" (cheat code).

Lin Yue stared blankly at the images in her mind for a while, lost in thought. She was currently in a survival game full of unknowns and dangers. What exactly was the purpose of this cheat system? It couldn't possibly be just to keep her entertained and pass the time, could it?

Just as she was racking her brains trying to figure it out, a familiar voice suddenly came to her mind: "Dong, dong dong dong, dong, dong dong dong dong dong..."

This is the sound of the game starting up.

Okay, okay, how come this cheat code even has a forced start function?

Lin Yue patted her cheeks, and after clearing her mind a bit, she focused her attention on her mind.

She really didn't dare to let her guard down. After all, she had finally escaped from the tree branch. If she were to have her brain eaten by a zombie in the blink of an eye, that would be a huge loss.

In her mind, the lush green meadow stood out vividly.

On the far left of the grass, a miniature cartoon version of Lin Yue stood blankly, her eyes vacant, as if waiting for something. Above the grass, a small ball of golden light, the same size as the one she had pulled out of the box, was drifting down, only more vibrant in color.

Lin Yue's consciousness seemed to extend into the space naturally, as if it were innate.

The next instant, the little girl who looked exactly like her suddenly moved. She quickly ran to the grass and steadily picked up the little sun that had just fallen. And the words "Energy: 50" appeared in the upper left corner of the game.

One sun equals 25 energy points, which perfectly matches her real-world experience. Lin Yue is extremely familiar with this game; even when she's thinking about it, her actions are flawless.

Collect sunlight - 50 energy points, plant a sunflower.

Continue collecting—100 energy points, "Peashooter" is ready.

As the zombies' low, hoarse roars drew closer, Lin Yue was fully prepared, arrayed her forces, and ready for battle.

The sunflowers diligently produced energy, while the Peashooter raised its emerald green pod and aimed at the slowly approaching zombie.

With a crisp "plop" sound, a pea shot out at an astonishing speed, accurately hitting the zombie's left hand.

Then, the second, the third... until the tenth pea whistled out, drawing a straight line through the air and smashing straight down on the zombie's head.

The gray zombie's body crashed down, falling to the ground in pieces on the grass.

A few seconds later, it turned into a wisp of white light and disappeared.

Lin Yue breathed a sigh of relief after successfully repelling the first wave of zombies.

However, she knew this was only temporary, and the second wave of zombies would appear soon. She had to hurry and continue to deploy her forces.

The second wave,

The third wave,

Before the fourth wave of zombies appeared, Lin Yue suddenly came to her senses.

She's in a survival game right now! She doesn't have time to leisurely play games! She needs to focus on how to survive.

Lin Yue focused her attention on the pause button on the interface, watching the peas and zombies that had flown halfway to a standstill before returning her focus to reality.
