Ahhhhh, high-altitude survival!
Chapter 2, Checking the Bracelet
Seeing her target made Lin Yue feel a little relieved.
She took a deep breath and then slowly exhaled, trying to calm herself down. Then, she began to carefully adjust her posture.
She first tried to move her left arm down a fist's distance, slowly sliding it down from above her right arm, and then tightly hugging the branch again.
The tree branch beneath her swayed slightly with her movements, and Lin Yue's heart involuntarily jumped.
After a moment, the swaying gradually stopped, and Lin Yue breathed a slight sigh of relief.
Then, she did the same thing again, moving her right arm back a fist's distance.
Then came her left leg, then her right leg… She moved like a snail, one part at a time, nervously, cautiously, slowly, yet firmly. Finally, after countless tiny adjustments, Lin Yue’s body moved back one centimeter.
Although it was just a small, insignificant step, it felt like the dawn of victory to her. The branches swayed a little more violently, and Lin Yue quietly lay on one of them, calming her racing heart.
Not urgent!
Don't be in a hurry!
Be sure to hold on!
And so, little by little, after more than ten minutes of arduous effort, Lin Yue finally moved to the corner where the branch and the trunk met.
"Phew..." Lin Yue let out a long breath, silently encouraging herself. Next, the more crucial step was about to begin.
She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and rehearsed the movements and details in her mind several times. Only after carefully considering each action and detail did she take a deep breath, clench her fists, slowly prop herself up, and gently press herself against the tree trunk.
Her body was suddenly suspended in mid-air, and naturally she was afraid. But in this life-or-death situation, fear had to give way to survival.
Her left hand reached up the tree trunk, and after a couple of gropings, she accurately grabbed the fulcrum she had already aimed for.
Nice!
Step one successful!
After all, there is always a way out.
Lin Yue noticed this as soon as she turned around to observe. She didn't know if it was a system setting, but although the trunk of this giant tree was thick enough for several people to encircle, it seemed to have been broken by some external force long ago, leaving an uneven cross-section. Over the years, with the erosion of time, the cross-section had gradually grown into a small, uneven platform. That small platform was diagonally above the fork in the branch where she was, less than an arm's length away.
The fulcrum she was grasping at that moment was the largest protrusion on the edge of the small platform.
Lin Yue clenched her left hand, lightly supporting herself on the tree trunk with her right, and began to slowly turn her body. After moving to a suitable position, she hugged the protrusion with both hands, slowly stood up, and then, with a slight effort, turned towards the tree trunk.
"call……"
It worked!
Lin Yue let out another long breath, feeling her eyes getting hot. She closed her eyes, blinked away the tears, and when she opened them again, her eyes were surprisingly bright.
She gripped the protrusion tightly with both hands again, and with a little effort, pushed off the branches beneath her feet, and stepped onto it in one go.
Once she landed safely on the small platform, Lin Yue plopped down, panting heavily, feeling a surge of joy and accomplishment at surviving a close call.
Thank goodness, her life is at least temporarily saved.
After lying on the ground for several minutes, and once her tense nerves finally relaxed, Lin Yue raised her wrist and began to carefully examine her bracelet.
The bracelet had a smooth, flat surface with no obvious buttons. She gently turned it with her finger and saw a flash of light, followed by a soft glow that unfolded, forming a light screen the size of a curtain.
The screen displayed the information mentioned in the voice, but in addition, several buttons were added at the bottom of the screen: main interface, inventory, build, area chat, and personal information.
Lin Yue tried operating each one one by one.
The main interface clearly displays the time and weather information: Day 1 of high-altitude survival, 8:21 AM, sunny, 26 degrees Celsius.
Next, she opened her backpack. The backpack had ten compartments, each small and exquisite. In the first compartment, she found a bamboo pole with a net attached; this must be the fishing net mentioned in the system notification for beginners. Lin Yue examined it carefully, then took the net out and set it aside.
Next, she tried clicking the build button. However, after several clicks, the grayed-out button didn't respond, indicating it wasn't unlocked yet. Lin Yue then opened the area chat interface.
At the top of the chat screen is a prominent sign that reads "Seventh District," followed by two numbers: 10000/10000. This should be the total number of people in their Seventh District.
Lin Yue couldn't help but gasp in astonishment; there were a full 10,000 people in just one district!
And they're already in the seventh district, though she doesn't know how many districts there are in total. But judging from this number, the total number of people participating in this game is at least over 7?
Are there really that many people in the world who die from falling from heights?
There seems to be something wrong with these numbers, doesn't there?
Just as her thoughts were racing, the chat screen became lively.
"Holy crap, high-altitude survival? What the hell is this? Anyone understand this? Come out and explain!"
"Aaaaaah, help! What kind of luck is this? I've landed on a broken stone pillar that's only a meter square! There's not even a railing on it, and when the wind blows, I feel like I'm going to float away. I'm so afraid I'll slip and fall!"
"The stone pillar is not bad! I'm on the plank road, a high-altitude plank road! I fell off the plank road as a child, and now the game gives me another plank road! There's only a palm's width under my feet, one side is a mountain wall, and the other side is a cliff!"
"I'm on a windmill! A windmill! That windmill that generates electricity!!! I'm going to die, I'm going to die, I'm going to die! Please, I hope the blades don't suddenly start moving!!!"
