Rebirth: Illuminating a Brilliant Life

Sunlight filtered through the dappled leaves, dappling the paths of the campus. Su Xuan, filled with anticipation for the new semester and a lingering sense of languor from the holidays, stepped into the long-missed campus.

Today is the first day of school, and upbeat music is playing over the school's loudspeakers, breaking the silence that has plagued the campus for days and announcing the official start of the new semester.

As arranged by the school, everyone was required to participate in the campus cleanup. Su Xuan arrived at the classroom, put down her schoolbag, and quickly joined her classmates in the work.

The boys took the initiative to do the heavy work of mopping the floor and moving tables and chairs. Their strong arms swung the mop, leaving clean marks on the floor. The tables and chairs were easily moved and arranged neatly in their hands.

It turned out that while moving the box to clean the dust behind it, he had discovered a little hedgehog trapped between the box and the wall.

This little hedgehog was covered in sharp spines, curled up into a small spiky ball, with only two small, black eyes showing, watching the surrounding crowd warily.

The students immediately erupted in excitement. A few of the bolder boys wanted to get closer to observe, but were too scared to touch the hedgehog because of its sharp spines. The girls chattered amongst themselves, some saying how cute the hedgehog was, while others worried that it might hurt them.

Su Xuan had a sudden inspiration and suggested finding a cardboard box, carefully moving the little hedgehog inside, and placing it in the hallway outside the classroom for now. They would figure out a proper place for it after cleaning. So everyone got busy again, cleaning while frequently checking on the little hedgehog.

After the cleaning was finally finished, the homeroom teacher learned about the little hedgehog and said with a smile, "This is a 'special guest' for the new semester."

The teacher organized a discussion among the students about what to do with the little hedgehog. Some suggested putting it in the school garden, where there were many flowers and plants for it to hide in; others suggested contacting a nearby animal rescue center so that professionals could take care of it.

Just as everyone was having a heated discussion, the biology class representative stood up and said that the little hedgehog might have wandered in by mistake because the campus environment had improved and there was more food available, which also showed that the school's ecology was getting better and better.

He also gave a detailed introduction to the hedgehog's living habits and eating habits, which the students listened to with great interest.

Finally, everyone decided to find a safe corner in the garden for the little hedgehog, put some water and fruit there, and let it "settle down" on campus for the time being.

Upon hearing the tale of the little hedgehog, Cheng Ran and Meng Jiawei's curiosity was piqued, and they rushed to the garden as soon as get out of class ended. There, they saw the little hedgehog quietly curled up in a corner. Excitedly, Cheng Ran leaned closer to get a better look, but accidentally tripped over a branch and fell forward, nearly crushing the hedgehog. This startled the classmates nearby, who gasped in surprise. Meng Jiawei, meanwhile, laughed heartily, teasing, "Cheng Ran, are you going to give the little hedgehog a close hug?!"

Cheng Ran got up, her face flushed, and playfully punched Meng Jiawei in feigned anger. Afterwards, the two of them joined the "Little Hedgehog Guardian Group."

Cheng Ran volunteered to design a more comfortable home for the little hedgehog. He brought some wooden boards and old fabric from home and devoted himself to tinkering in his spare time. Once, they wanted to give the little hedgehog a bath, thinking it would make it cleaner and cuter. After finally finishing their bath, when they were drying the little hedgehog with a towel, the hedgehog's quills got caught on the towel again, and they couldn't pull it off no matter what they did. The two of them were so anxious that they were covered in sweat. In the end, they were able to solve the problem with the help of other classmates.

When the little hedgehog went missing, Cheng Ran and Meng Jiawei were more anxious than anyone else. They searched along the school wall several times, calling out the little hedgehog's name as they searched, their earnest expressions making it seem as if the little hedgehog could understand their calls.
