Rebirth: Illuminating a Brilliant Life

Chapter 13 The Mysterious Love Letter

Su Xuan opened her locker as usual, and a light blue envelope slid out gracefully. There was no signature on the envelope, only her name, "Su Xuan," written in a flowing, elegant style, as if it had been written with great patience and tenderness. She picked up the envelope with some curiosity; it felt delicate to the touch and carried a faint floral scent, as if the writer had carefully prepared it.

She returned to her seat, gently tore open the envelope, and found a letter inside, also in pale blue, with neat and beautiful handwriting. The love letter began with a heartfelt "To the most dazzling star in my eyes—Su Xuan," which made her heart leap. The letter was filled with beautiful and moving language, overflowing with praise for her. From the strands of hair blowing in the wind as she stepped onto campus in the morning, to her confident demeanor when answering questions in class, from her languid stroll along the playground in the afternoon, to her tranquil expression as she focused on reading in the library—every detail was vividly depicted.

Countless possible candidates flashed through Su Xuan's mind. Was it the boy who always gave her a sunny smile on the basketball court? Or the quiet senior she had interacted with a few times in the literature club? Or perhaps her deskmate who would occasionally steal glances at her? She was a little flustered. This sudden confession of affection was like a pebble thrown into a calm lake, stirring up ripples in her originally peaceful heart.

The laughter and playful chatter of her classmates seemed distant as Su Xuan was lost in the complex emotions brought on by the mysterious love letter. She didn't know how to face the anonymous sender—whether she hoped to meet him or simply hope it was a harmless joke that would allow her to return to her peaceful life. This love letter was like a mysterious gift box, waiting for her to unravel its secrets, a process filled with uncertainty and trepidation.

Standing under the library lights, Su Xuan looked at the somewhat nervous boy in front of her, momentarily at a loss for words. The boy's eyes darted away nervously the instant they met, then he seemed to muster his courage to look at her again, his hands nervously clutching the hem of his shirt.

The library was so quiet you could hear each other breathing. Su Xuan broke the silence first: "Was it you who wrote me the love letter?" Her voice was soft, tinged with disbelief. The boy nodded vigorously. "Yes, it was me." His throat was a little dry, and his voice trembled slightly.

Su Xuan carefully examined him. He had a clean face and clear, bright eyes that shone with a mixture of nervousness and anticipation under the light. He wore a simple white shirt, the hem of which was wrinkled, a sight that surprisingly eased Su Xuan's initial tension.

"Why me?" Su Xuan asked softly. The boy took a deep breath, as if he had opened a floodgate, "You probably don't know, but from the first time I saw you on the tree-lined path on campus, the way you smiled while holding a book was imprinted in my heart. Later, every time I saw you looking for or reading books in the library, I felt like you were an elf who had stepped out of a book. Your confidence when answering questions in class, your warmth when you're with your friends, all of these things attract me."

As Su Xuan listened to his words, memories of moments she had overlooked in her daily life flashed through her mind. She realized that someone had been silently watching over her all along. Touched, a smile unconsciously crept onto her lips. "When you look at me like that, I don't know what to do." The boy took a nervous step forward. "I...I didn't mean anything by it. I just wanted you to know how I feel. If you find it bothersome, I...I won't bother you anymore."

Seeing his nervous yet sincere expression, Su Xuan smiled. "No, I'm not troubled, it's just so sudden. Your love letter was beautiful; I never knew I looked like this in your eyes." The boy's eyes lit up instantly, as if he had received the most precious gift. "Then... then can we be friends?" Su Xuan nodded. "Of course. But we're still in elementary school, so we need to focus on our studies."

Just then, a gentle breeze blew through the library, lifting the curtains and stirring their hearts. They strolled slowly among the bookshelves, sharing their favorite books, their laughter echoing softly in the corners of the library. This night, made all the more warm by this love letter.
