Chapter Sixty-Three: Getting Rich

Ji Meiqing thought about it and agreed. When the temperature is high, the body odor is also stronger, and on a rainy day, the sudden drop in temperature will suppress the odor a bit.

"Whatever you say." She smiled and continued with her work. She didn't even have time for dinner; she hurriedly placed all the money she'd received on the table to do her accounting. Then, looking at the large sum of money on the table, she subtracted the necessary materials. There was still a considerable amount left. Since she needed to hire some people recently, she decided to use this money to find some help.

As she was thinking, she drifted off into a daze. A wonderful life was rushing toward her, and she smiled, her eyes crinkling. When she came back to her senses, Lu Yu was already leaning against the door frame.

She immediately stopped smiling and asked, "Is there anything else, Brother Lu?"

"Aren't you going to eat?" he asked.

Ji Meiqing then remembered that she still had some things to do and couldn't eat, so she could only refuse.

"I have other things to do, so I'm afraid I won't be able to eat. Brother Lu, please eat first, there's no need to wait for me."

Lu Yu pursed his lips, seemingly a little angry. But Ji Meiqing didn't notice. She simply tidied herself up, then placed the silver in his hand and explained, "Keep today's earnings. I have other things to do, so you can eat first."

She said this and left in a hurry. Lu Yu watched her figure, as if she really had something important to do. Lu Yu suddenly felt uneasy and followed her.

Ji Meiqing arrived at Li's house anxiously and then pushed open the door to go inside.

"I need to hire people now. Could you help me find out who else is willing to work for me? There are probably only three openings. I have some things to take care of these next few days, so I'm afraid I won't have time."

She finished speaking quickly, and then repeated her requirements. They were roughly things like being strong and hardworking.

Li listened for most of the day without saying a word. Only after Ji Meiqing finished speaking did she slowly say, "Probably the day after tomorrow. I'll bring people to see you the day after tomorrow."

"Okay," she readily agreed.

Li's eyes flickered as she looked behind her. Ji Meiqing also sensed something, turned around, but saw nothing.

Perhaps it was just her imagination, she turned around and said, "That's about it. If you find someone, just bring them here. I trust you."

Li nodded, watching her leave, then looked back at the spot she had just been looking at. There was no one there anymore. She sighed helplessly. Why, even though she clearly liked her, wouldn't she say it?

Ji Meiqing, unaware of this, slowly returned to her home. The tea in her cup had gone cold, so Lu Yu brought out some water from the kitchen and poured it for her.

"I plan to hire more people; we're clearly short-handed right now." He ran his fingers over the cup, his eyes filled with frustration.

Lu Yu silently watched her, listening to the subtle emotions in her words. But he didn't know what to do; he was completely at a loss.

As she spoke, she stood up and said with a smile, "I'm a little tired, I'll go rest first. Goodnight, Brother Lu."

Lu Yu remained silent. "What...is wrong with you?"

He suddenly asked, and the person in front of him paused, "Nothing."

Lu Yu didn't believe it and questioned, "Why have you been avoiding me lately?"

"No." She smiled wearily. "I'm a little tired. Let's talk about it tomorrow, okay?"

She looked at him almost pleadingly. Lu Yu hesitated, but in the end, he couldn't bear it and didn't ask any more questions. Ji Meiqing went back to her room and lay down.

She wasn't lying; she was indeed exhausted. So exhausted, so very exhausted. Lying in bed, she felt as if her limbs had turned into a lump of mud.

She didn't know what Lu Yu wanted to say, nor did she want to know. She just wanted to make money peacefully and then pursue another goal.

Covering her forehead, Ji Meiqing fell into a deep sleep.

Lu Yu had been sitting outside the door, staring at Ji Meiqing's room. Suddenly, he fell into a daze, reflecting on himself and wondering where he could have done better.

As I was thinking, I suddenly realized a problem.

When did he start becoming like this? It took me a long time to realize that I had fallen for her.

Thinking about the word "like" made me feel inexplicably emotional. Looking at the door, I kept imagining it would open in an instant and Ji Meiqing would come out.

As he thought about it, he became more and more excited, but the room was dark and quiet, and there was nothing there.

He didn't want to carry it any further, so he simply took his wine jar and went up to the roof.

The stars were shining brightly in the sky as he drank and admired the moon. The moon was round and full, casting shadows on its surface. After a few sips of wine, he suddenly felt that it didn't taste as good as before.

The liquor was dry and bitter, with some other flavors as well.

He took two more sips, but couldn't tell what it tasted like. Unable to discern the flavor, he could only drink it down, sip after sip.

The moon seemed to grow larger and larger in his eyes, and Ji Meiqing's image could be seen on it. As if he really saw it, he laughed twice and took two more hearty sips of his drink.

Time passed slowly, and Lu Yu gradually fell asleep on the bed. Until dawn, when she came out of her room, she turned around and saw someone lying on the bed in her house.

No one knew where he came from or how he got up there. Only when she got closer did she realize it was Lu Yu. Ji Meiqing was both amused and exasperated, so she borrowed a ladder and climbed up herself.

Lu Yu was fast asleep, still smelling strongly of alcohol. She nudged him a couple of times, and his drowsy appearance was rather cute.

While he was still asleep, she couldn't resist poking him with her finger. Unexpectedly, Lu Yu suddenly opened his eyes, grabbed her hand, and pulled her towards him.

Ji Meiqing was caught off guard and pulled over by him, then pinned down.

Lu Yu, slightly drunk, kissed her directly, his smell of alcohol hitting her immediately. Ji Meiqing frowned, looking at the person in front of her.

It was broad daylight, and they were on the rooftop. She didn't want to be watched, so she pushed him several times, but failed. In a fit of anger, Ji Meiqing used both hands and feet to push him off the roof.

The roof was triangular in shape, and he kept rolling down it. Ji Meiqing was startled and tried to chase after him, but unexpectedly, she slipped and fell down as well.

The rooftop wasn't very comfortable; it bumped against my chest and back, making me feel uncomfortable. In my haste, I tried to grab something, but suddenly I fell into a warm embrace, one that seemed to be slightly drunk.

Ji Meiqing stared wide-eyed at the person in front of her.

Lu Yu was carrying her down, and in less than a second they were standing on flat ground, which surprised Ji Meiqing again.
