Chapter 52: Frame-up
Chapter 52: Framing and Slander
Ji Meiqing woke up briefly in a daze, then quickly fell back asleep.
Lu Yu stayed by her side the whole time, watching the blush on her face. It wasn't until dawn that her body temperature slowly subsided. Although she was still a little hot to the touch, Ji Meiqing stirred, smacked her lips a couple of times, and then rolled over.
Lu Yu couldn't help but smile at her little actions. He checked her body temperature again, feeling rather helpless, before leaving the place with peace of mind.
He hadn't slept all night, and his eyes gradually became bloodshot. He fell asleep as soon as he lay down on the bed; he was probably too tired, and this sleep felt like his bones were falling apart.
When Ji Mei woke up, she felt sticky all over, as if she had been sweating profusely. She got out of bed, and a cold wind blew in, immediately dispelling the heat from her body. It felt as if her whole body was directly exposed to the air, and the cold wind was infuriating.
She had only been down for less than a minute when she shrank back down, her gaze fixed on something on a table to the side. She seemed to suddenly remember what had happened last night.
Although she wasn't completely confused, she still remembered some things. Ji Meiqing quickly put on her shoes, put on her coat, and went to Lu Yu's room.
His door was open, and Ji Meiqing walked straight in.
The room was as cold as an ice cellar in December. Ji Meiqing shivered, wrapped her clothes tighter, and went over. When she got to the bedside, she saw Lu Yu, who looked pale.
Lu Yu slept very soundly; if it weren't for his chest rising and falling, Ji Meiqing would have almost thought he was dead. However, Ji Meiqing quickly realized what was happening and checked his temperature.
Looking at Lu Yu again, she immediately pulled the blanket up a bit more, worried that it wasn't warm enough. She then went back to the room to get her own blanket and covered him with it.
Seeing him sleeping peacefully, Ji Meiqing quickly changed her clothes and went to the village doctors who knew a little about medicine.
They avoided Ji Meiqing whenever possible, and if they couldn't avoid her, they simply refused to see her. Left with no other option, Ji Meiqing went into the city, rented a carriage, and brought the doctor back.
As soon as the two arrived home, Ji Meiqing pulled him into Lu Yu's room.
"Doctor, please take a look. How serious is Brother Lu's condition?" She desperately needed an answer. The doctor offered some words of advice and then took his pulse.
Ji Meiqing waited anxiously. Finally, when he finished, Ji Meiqing ran up to him, grabbed him, and asked, "Doctor, what's wrong with him?"
"It's just a cold; you should rest well for the next few days. I'll prescribe some medicine for you; just take it on time." The doctor said hastily and then went out to draw up the prescription for her.
Ji Meiqing glanced at him again and then saw the doctor out.
The prescription was written out, and Ji Meiqing took a ride back to the city according to the list to carefully select the medicinal herbs.
After finally collecting them all, Ji Meiqing asked the waiter at the counter to sort and pack them for her.
Ji Meiqing glanced at it, then hurriedly ran out. She encountered someone before even leaving the street.
"How dare you! How dare you touch our princess's body!" A furious shout rang out overhead, like a thunderclap from a clear sky, and Ji Meiqing's head throbbed with pain.
She rubbed her head and sat up abruptly, the medicine packet in her hand scattered everywhere. Ji Meiqing only wanted to retrieve all the medicine.
"Hey, you still want to run away! Kneel down and apologize to our princess!" Seeing Ji Meiqing like this, the maid immediately pulled her back, chuckling, "What, you bumped into my princess and you think you can escape?"
"Let go!" Ji Meiqing said coldly. "If you don't let go, I'll dislocate all four of your limbs right now."
"You dare threaten me!" The girl gave a wink to the other two, and the others followed suit, twisting her hands around.
Ji Meiqing was forcibly brought in front of the princess. Xun Hua, who had been furious because he had failed to kill Ji Meiqing, now saw that Ji Meiqing was in his hands and a smug smile appeared on his lips.
"What, you think you can just run away?"
"Run?" Ji Meiqing narrowed her eyes. Now that no one was around and she had been captured, it was truly a double whammy. Xun Hua looked around to make sure no one was there, then led her to a small house.
"You're just a commoner, your death is nothing to regret. Even if you're discovered, they can easily pin a crime on you, and no one will hold you accountable." Xun Hua smiled smugly, her sharp nails digging directly into her chin.
Ji Meiqing smiled. "This is what you really think, isn't it?"
"Yes. You know my secret, so you must die."
"A secret?" Ji Meiqing was puzzled, but then she understood in an instant. "So that's it. But even if you kill me, this problem won't be solved."
"Whether I kill you or not is the same. If you die, at least one less person will know what I look like."
"If the world knew that Princess Xunhua had a strange odor, she would definitely be considered a monster, right? Princess Xunhua is really scheming." Ji Meiqing's smiling appearance was completely different from her previous cold and aloof demeanor.
Xunhua looked at her and asked, "What are you planning now?"
"I don't have any ideas. But as I said before, if we don't remove that thing under the princess's armpit, I'm afraid there's no cure for your condition."
Xunhua frowned. "This will cause trouble."
"If you're not even willing to take risks, Princess, you might as well just live your life wearing your veil and sachet. Besides, you're even more repulsive this way."
"You're threatening me!" She grabbed her sleeve, stared at her for a long time, and finally let go.
"If I do as you say, will something bad happen to me?"
"If the surgery goes smoothly, all you need to do is recuperate until the wound heals. If it fails, at most you'll just be left with two scars." She deliberately concealed the fact that she might die; there are many blood vessels under her armpits. If a blood vessel is accidentally damaged, the consequences are unimaginable. This drink felt like she was being subjected to a throat-slitting operation.
She didn't need to tell Xunhua; everything was up to fate. Although fate was difficult to choose, the pros and cons ultimately depended on individual choices.
"If you don't do it right... I'll take your life!" Xun Hua threatened coldly, but Ji Meiqing wasn't angry. Instead, she looked at him with a faint smile.
"I'm not a doctor, the surgery I perform on you will definitely fail."
"Then what do you want?"
“It’s very simple. There are many imperial physicians in the palace. Their skills are extraordinary. Why doesn’t the princess seek them out? Besides, if the imperial physicians in the Imperial Medical Bureau can’t even perform a minor surgery, then the Imperial Medical Bureau is probably just a name that’s meant to be impressive.”
She smiled and tossed the scapegoat into the hands of the palace servant. Xunhua thought about it and agreed.
