Chapter 44: Pinch the King of Hell's Waist
"How dare you speak to the princess like that!" The girl didn't speak, but her maidservant spoke up, her voice arrogant and haughty, as if someone owed her a fortune.
Ji Meiqing looked at her and felt as if she saw another person in her.
Back when she was working, her boss was probably just like that, arrogant and spoiled. But now, she'd come to her senses and retorted, "As a princess, don't you know that trespassing is against etiquette? Have all the rules you've learned over the years been wasted?"
"You!" The maid was speechless with anger.
However, a princess who hadn't spoken much said, "I had no intention of offending you, but the matter is urgent, and I have no other choice."
"I wonder what brings you here, Princess?" Lu Yu spoke up, steer the conversation back on track, and Ji Meiqing looked at her as well.
There were few windows in the room, only one door, and incense burned inside, the strong fragrance seeming to be deadly.
Ji Meiqing wrinkled her nose; the smell was rather unpleasant.
"I'm not here for anything else, but simply because of the unique fragrance I possess. I've come here to find a remedy for it."
"A strange fragrance?" Ji Meiqing looked at her, thinking it was more likely a foul odor. But she didn't say it outright, because they couldn't do anything about the princess's smell.
If she could cure him with the skills she had, then all those hospitals in my previous life wouldn't need to be open.
"This taste originates from a certain part of the body. If the princess wants to completely eradicate it, the only option is to cut off that part," she said casually. "Besides that, if you want to remove it by external means, you can only become a nun and eat vegetarian food for life. But that will only alleviate the symptoms."
"Is that so?" The princess seemed somewhat disappointed. The maid beside her said disdainfully, "They are nothing but empty names. Your Highness should go back and let the old imperial physician in the palace take a look."
"Imperial physician? Either you have to undergo surgery, or you'll be dressed lightly and never sweat again. Otherwise, you'll never get rid of this odor," Ji Meiqing said coldly. "Seeking an imperial physician won't help."
"You're not a doctor, what do you know!" the maid said matter-of-factly. Ji Meiqing glanced at her and remained silent.
The princess thought for a moment, and finally said in a low voice, "I'm sorry to bother you."
She waved her hand, and someone brought over two boxes from behind. When the boxes were opened, they gleamed with a golden light. Ji Meiqing glanced at them and was immediately drawn to them.
"Consider this an apology for trespassing here today," the princess said softly, before leaving with her entourage.
Ji Meiqing watched her leave, completely baffled by her actions. She came to ask a question no one else knew the answer to, and then delivered two boxes of gold.
This is... I bumped into the God of Wealth's back.
"Here, you keep this." Ji Meiqing stuffed another portion into Lu Yu's arms and said with a smile, "One for each of us."
"Keep them, I don't need them." Lu Yu pushed them back, then went to restore some of the parts on the table that had been touched.
Ji Meiqing looked at him doubtfully, and finally tentatively asked, "You really don't want it?"
Lu Yu nodded. "Keep it."
She happily put the box away. When she came out again, the village chief, who had heard the commotion, also arrived.
After wandering around Lu Yu's house, she excitedly ran up to Ji Meiqing and asked, "Where is the Princess?"
"What Princess?" Ji Meiqing frowned. "What are you talking about!"
"That young lady who just came here is none other than the most favored princess of the time!"
"What does this have to do with me?" Ji Meiqing retorted. "She already left just now."
"She's gone?" The village chief asked in disbelief. "How could you let her go!"
"She's a princess, she can leave or not if she wants. We common folk can't stop her," Ji Meiqing muttered.
The village chief gave her a look of exasperation, but finally asked patiently, "When did you leave?"
"It's been a while," she said truthfully.
Having heard the exact time, the village chief chased after him. Ji Meiqing watched him leave, shook her head, and went back to her room.
When the village chief saw the extremely luxurious carriage, he immediately rushed over and said, "Princess, please wait a moment."
The driver, seeing the person who suddenly appeared in front of him, pulled on the reins.
"Who are you?" The maid sitting outside looked at him arrogantly. "You dare to stop the princess's carriage? You don't want to live, do you?"
"Xiao De is the village chief of the village over there."
"What business is it of a mere commoner to stop a car?"
"Your Highness, I am deeply sorry that I was unable to greet you. That is why I have come to ask for your presence." He bowed deeply.
"Hmm, drag him aside and kill him." A cold voice came from inside the carriage curtain. "Anyone who blocks the way will be killed without mercy."
"Yes!"
The village chief was completely stunned. He couldn't believe he was being treated this way. For a moment, he couldn't believe it, but even if he couldn't believe it, it was true. The people escorting the carriage immediately came over and pulled him aside.
"Princess, spare me! I meant no offense..." he kept shouting until his voice was hoarse, but there was no response from the person inside. Instead, the carriage started moving forward.
As he finished shouting, the knife slit his throat. The village chief stared in disbelief at what he had just witnessed. After doing all this, they went back to guarding the car as if nothing had happened.
"Take care of those two tonight. Don't let them leak this out."
"Yes," the maid outside replied softly, and the carriage returned to calm, as if nothing had happened.
Ji Meiqing's right eyelid kept twitching, and she didn't know why. It felt like something was weighing on her heart. She didn't feel at ease even while eating dinner.
"What's wrong? Is something on your mind?" Lu Yu asked. "Why is your face so pale?"
"It's nothing." She glanced at him, then quickly lowered her head and ate a couple of mouthfuls of rice before calming down.
I still felt a little uneasy, as if something was about to happen.
Ji Meiqing shook her head, trying to get rid of that feeling, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't.
After finally finishing her meal, Ji Meiqing took a bath and lay down on the bed. Her mind was in turmoil, and she couldn't fall asleep no matter how much she tossed and turned. In her hazy state, she could still smell a burnt smell in her nose.
She woke up immediately, got out of bed, and went outside.
The house suddenly caught fire for some unknown reason. Without thinking, Ji Meiqing woke up Lu Yu, and the two of them called the villagers to bring water to extinguish the raging fire.
