Wine-scented Beauty
Chapter 103: Preparation
Chapter 103: Preparation
Ji Meiqing stood in front of him and asked, "Brother Lu... is there anything else?"
"About your wedding dress..." He suddenly blushed, gestured with his hand, then gave up and said directly, "I don't know your measurements... so I can't make one."
After saying that, he stole a glance at her.
Ji Meiqing was taken aback, not expecting him to be stumped on this. She laughed for a moment, but then quickly became serious again. "Wait for me, let me get ready."
"Hmm..." He turned around, and Ji Meiqing saw that his ears were already burning red.
She went back to her room, tidied up, took some silver, and went out with him. They walked as usual, but since that time, it felt strange to walk side by side with him.
Ji Meiqing knew that after locking the door, Lu Yu naturally took her hand. The warmth of his hand wafted through her; Ji Meiqing stole a glance at him, then quickly withdrew her gaze.
His hands were warm, with some fine calluses on them. Thinking about the TV dramas I'd watched before, I idly made some guesses based on what I'd seen.
"Brother Lu, how long have you been practicing martial arts?" She deliberately started a conversation between the two.
Without a second thought, Lu Yu replied, "Four years old. That's when I started practicing the basics."
"Wow, that's amazing." She was still fooling around with others when she was four years old. She glanced at it again and suddenly said, "It must have been very painful."
"No." He smiled and denied it directly. This surprised Ji Meiqing.
He then added, "My body was very weak at that time, so I trained to improve my physique."
"Oh." She shut her mouth and stopped talking to him about these things.
After walking for a while, the two reached the main road. The road was smooth and there were no loose stones. The two walked on it without saying much.
Ji Meiqing wondered if Lu Yu would find her palms sweaty from nervousness distasteful. But even after walking for a while, he hadn't let go of her hand.
After entering the city, the crowds increased. Afraid she would get bumped into, Lu Yu pulled her into his arms and laid her down. At that moment, she suddenly felt at peace.
Although there weren't many people on the street, the narrow streets made it somewhat crowded. They squeezed through the crowd, but because Lu Yu was there, she didn't feel anything and the journey was smooth.
He led her to a jewelry store and then pulled her inside. The dazzling gold inside was almost blinding.
Lu Yu, however, led her inside with practiced ease. Once inside the room, he suddenly covered her eyes and guided her to a seat.
The room was quiet. Lu Yu instructed, "Don't open your eyes. It'll be over soon."
Ji Meiqing dared not move, but the hand in front of her slowly loosened its grip. Lu Yu repeated it again, and Ji Meiqing obediently closed her eyes once more.
Just when she was about to reach her limit, a sudden weight pressed down on her head. It almost crushed her neck, but luckily Lu Yu caught it in time, preventing the entire weight from falling on her.
"Now open your eyes and take a look," he said again.
Ji Meiqing opened her eyes in response. In front of her was a mirror. The person in the mirror was without makeup, but she was wearing a phoenix crown on her head. The eyes of the phoenix were lifelike. Two phoenixes were facing each other with pearls in their mouths, and pearl curtains hung down in front of her.
She couldn't help but reach out and touch it. The cold touch sent a shiver down her spine. Lu Yu couldn't help but ask her, "Do you like it?"
"I like it..." She touched it and couldn't help but want to take it off, but Lu Yu stopped her.
She was taken aback, then withdrew her hand.
"This thing..."
"It's pure gold, made by my mother, but I modified it a bit. I was afraid you wouldn't like it, so I brought you here to try it on."
Ji Meiqing was completely speechless, unsure whether to be moved or what to do.
As a first-time bride, she should have been busy preparing her dowry, but now she doesn't have to do anything; she just needs to tell others her preferences.
Everything was too easy; it felt unreal to her.
Lu Yu held her shoulder, and the two of them, sitting and standing, looked incredibly well-matched. Combined with her shy face, it was like a painting.
Ji Meiqing stared blankly for a moment, then finally came to her senses, took off the phoenix crown, and carefully placed it in a brocade box to the side.
"Weren't we going to try on clothes? Let's go," she said with a smile.
Lu Yu smiled and walked over, took the box, and led her away. The shopkeeper smiled and saw them off.
The two stood on the street again, and he led her into an alley with practiced ease. Ji Meiqing looked around at the mulberry trees, which provided shade, but there weren't many green leaves left.
He knocked on the door, and it opened shortly afterward. He wasn't surprised to see Lu Yu, but he glanced at Ji Meiqing a couple more times.
"Please come in." The man welcomed them in and then made tea for them. Ji Meiqing looked at the courtyard and couldn't help but glance at it a few more times.
The tea was served, and the person smiled gently and said, "Grandma is still resting, please wait a moment."
"No rush." Lu Yu smiled as well, his manner gentle and refined. Ji Meiqing couldn't help but glance at a few more items. Lu Yu then introduced the two of them, first telling the man Ji Meiqing's name, and then telling Ji Meiqing the man's name.
"Greetings, Miss Ji." She chuckled twice, her eyes full of envy. "Young Master Lu is a good man, and the two of them are a match made in heaven."
Lu Yu said modestly, "But Mei Qing is good. I must have accumulated good karma for several lifetimes to finally be able to marry her."
"Is that so?" She smiled and glanced at the two of them.
Ji Meiqing blushed, unsure of what to say. They each drank a glass of water, and the man glanced at the sky before saying, "I'll go check on Grandma. Please wait a moment."
She glanced at the two of them before quietly going to the inner room. After she left, Ji Meiqing leaned over and asked Lu Yu, "Why did you come here? To deliver an invitation?"
"The owner of this place used to be a royal embroiderer in the palace. Later, she received imperial favor and came here to retire," Lu Yu explained, turning his head only after seeing the doubt on her face disappear.
A few whispers came from inside, and after a while, people came out of the room. Lu Yu stood up, and Ji Meiqing hurriedly followed suit.
"Granny Lu," he bowed slightly, "I'm getting married this month, could you please help me make a wedding dress? I would be extremely grateful."
Ji Meiqing also bent down with him, and the old woman came over to help him up. Her face was full of smiles and wrinkles. She said to Lu Yu kindly, "Good child, this is not a difficult thing, there is no need for such a big ceremony."
She then turned her gaze to Ji Meiqing and said kindly, "This must be your future wife."
