The Heavenly Dragon's Beginning in the Journey Through the Heavens
Chapter 27 begins with Kumārajīva battling the Six Meridian Divine Sword.
After waving his arms for a while, Ling Feng abruptly stopped.
He suddenly realized that he was a guest at Tianlong Temple, and if he caused too much of a commotion, the situation would be difficult to manage.
Although he stopped what he was doing, Ling Feng continued to comprehend the sword energy.
Time flies, and the next day arrived quickly. Ling Feng's comprehension had also improved slightly, which was undoubtedly an unexpected gain from his trip to Tianlong Temple.
The next morning, everyone gathered at the training ground of Tenryu-ji Temple, waiting for Kumārajīva's arrival.
Noon arrived quickly, and Kumārajīva and his party finally arrived as promised.
They were a large and numerous group, numbering in the dozens.
Kumārajīva came as the National Preceptor of Tibet, so a grand procession was naturally essential.
Leading the way was a Tibetan monk dressed in unusual attire; judging from his clothing, he was undoubtedly Kumārajīva.
Sure enough, his next words confirmed everyone's guess.
“Amitabha Buddha, I am the Tibetan National Preceptor Kumārajīva. I have long admired the illustrious reputation of Tianlong Temple in Dali and have come here today to pay my respects.”
“Amitabha Buddha, Master, you have come from afar and I have not been able to welcome you. Please forgive me.”
Kumārajīva was quite polite when he came up, and Abbot Benyin of Tenryū-ji Temple also exchanged pleasantries.
Of course, Kumārajīva did not come here to pay a visit. After exchanging pleasantries, he began to discuss Buddhist teachings.
These monks all have their own insights into Buddhism, and no one has been able to determine who is superior, since there is no first place in literature and no second place in martial arts.
After finishing his explanation of Buddhist teachings, Kumārajīva finally revealed his purpose.
"Amitabha Buddha, this humble monk once suffered a qi deviation during his practice, but fortunately he was enlightened by the elder Mr. Murong Bo of the Murong family in Suzhou, which saved him from danger."
“I once discussed the Dao with him, and he said frankly that there is a peerless sword technique called the Six Meridians Divine Sword in Tianlong Temple in Dali. It is the top sword technique in the world, and I have never seen it before, which is quite a pity.”
"I recently heard that Elder Murong has passed away."
"He never saw this sword technique before he died, and I am grateful for his guidance back then."
"I came to your temple specifically to request the manual for the Six Meridians Divine Sword, intending to take it to the grave of Elder Murong and burn it, so as to comfort his spirit in heaven."
Although Kumārajīva spoke with great righteousness, everyone present was an old and shrewd person, and naturally did not believe his nonsense.
Seeing that the monks had not responded, he decided to raise the price again. After all, the idea of getting something for nothing was just a thought.
"Of course, this humble monk will not let your temple suffer any losses. Before coming here, I went through many twists and turns to find three of the Seventy-Two Shaolin Arts."
"I have brought these three unique skills with me today, hoping to exchange them with your temple."
"Of course, as the Six Meridians Divine Sword is the secret technique of your temple, I should also follow this secret. Therefore, after obtaining the sword manual, I will seal it on the spot and take it directly to the tomb of Elder Murong to be burned."
The reputation of the Seventy-Two Shaolin Arts is so great that even many eminent monks are tempted after hearing about them.
"Amitabha"
"Remember to avoid greed and anger. You haven't even mastered all the martial arts of this temple yet, so why covet the martial arts of other schools?"
Just as many eminent monks were about to give in, an old monk sitting silently by the stone wall first uttered a Buddhist chant, and then warned the other eminent monks.
"Amitabha."
The monks, alerted by the old monk's warning, immediately came to their senses and chanted a Buddhist prayer.
Kumārajīva had clearly seen that these eminent monks were somewhat tempted, but after the old monk's warning, the monks remained unmoved once again.
Kumārajīva was furious. He was about to have a good time, but it was suddenly ruined.
But he didn't know who the other person was, so he decided to find out more before making a decision.
"Amitabha Buddha, may I ask what this master's Dharma name is?"
"Amitabha Buddha, this humble monk is Ku Rong, and I pay my respects to the Imperial Preceptor."
Kumārajīva already had some information about the many eminent monks of Tenryū-ji Temple before his arrival.
Wasn't it said that this cycle of decay and prosperity hadn't appeared in the world for over ten years? How come it suddenly reappeared now?
Although the good thing was ruined by the withering and flourishing, Kumārajīva felt that it could still be salvaged, and what if it accidentally succeeded?
“Amitabha, Master Kurong, I do not intend to practice this Six Meridians Divine Sword privately. Instead, I will seal it in front of Elder Murong’s tomb and burn it.”
"In this light, your temple has undoubtedly gained three Shaolin Seventy-Two Arts out of thin air."
"You should know that these seventy-two Shaolin arts are all closely guarded secrets. I only found these three by chance."
“Amitabha, the Six Meridians Divine Sword of our temple is a closely guarded secret, so we regret that we cannot grant the National Preceptor’s request.”
We're all seasoned foxes, so naturally we won't believe in these ghost stories.
Seeing that Kuru had made up his mind, Kumārajīva knew that deception was hopeless and immediately prepared to change his strategy.
"Since the master is unwilling to make an exchange, I will not force him."
"This humble monk has come here for another matter, which is to seek instruction in martial arts from your esteemed temple. I hope that the masters will be able to enlighten me."
“Amitabha Buddha. Monks should be pure of the six senses and should not be competitive. Let’s just discuss the Dharma.”
Ku Rong had already discerned that this Kumārajīva was at least a mid-stage Innate Realm martial artist.
Therefore, even if they formed the Six Meridians Divine Sword Formation, it would be difficult for them to defeat their opponent. Rather than that, it would have been better not to agree to the competition in the first place.
He could see the trick, and so could Kumārajīva, so naturally he insisted on persisting to the end.
"We are merely exchanging martial arts techniques, and it's not a matter of being competitive. Besides, since the master is unwilling to exchange the Six Meridians Divine Sword manual, it wouldn't be too much to ask me to experience the power of this sword technique."
After Kumārajīva finished speaking, without waiting for Kurō's reply, he immediately assumed a fighting stance and said:
"Please, Master."
"Amitabha. Since the Imperial Preceptor insists on this, we have no choice but to accept the challenge. However, our talents are limited, and we have not fully mastered the Six Meridians Divine Sword. Therefore, we will fight as a group of five."
Seeing that Kumārajīva was determined to use force, Kurong recited a Buddhist chant and agreed.
Kumārajīva had no objection to this, as he also wanted to see the Six Meridians Divine Sword.
As for the people involved, he could also tell their strength. Apart from Ku Rong, the others were at most at the first-class level, so he wasn't worried about them joining forces.
As Kurong finished speaking, the other four eminent monks also made their preparations.
Of the six divine swords, two are from the Ku Rong Hui lineage, while the other high-ranking monks each control one lineage.
Therefore, only by combining the strength of the five of them could they barely unleash the Six Meridians Divine Sword Formation.
After both sides took their positions, they gave each other a few reminders, and then Kumārajīva attacked Kurō with a 'Flaming Blade'.
The Flaming Blade, as Kumārajīva's signature technique, can also unleash a blade of energy, but it can only extend to about ten feet, which is incomparable to the Six Meridians Divine Sword.
Seeing that Kumārajīva had already launched the first attack, Kurong no longer sat idly by and waited for his death. He stretched out his fingers and unleashed two sword energies, one aimed at the blade energy coming towards him, and the other shot straight at Kumārajīva.
Seeing that the two had already started to fight, the other high monks no longer hesitated and began to make their moves one after another, each unleashing a sword aura towards Kumārajīva.
