Chapter 6: Many Strange Tales from Wangshu Inn

The small boat rippled on the water and moved slowly forward.

Xu Ning sat reclining in the boat, sipping his wine.

Beidou stood at the bow of the ship, arms outstretched, looking at the vast expanse of water with an expression of boundless joy.

The outline of Wangshu Inn is already faintly visible.

The large ginkgo tree at the top of the mountain looks like a golden money tree from a distance.

"No wonder this inn makes so much money; they must be sleeping with a money tree in their arms every day!"

Xu Ning exhaled a breath of alcohol and gave his assessment of the Wangshu Inn not far away.

The old village chief chuckled.

“What you said is absolutely right. This Wangshu Inn is located on the main road from Mondstadt to Liyue, and it can be stopped by both land and water. Many merchants use it as a place to rest and reorganize along the way. It’s hard not to make money here.”

“Even some people in our village always bring the fish they catch here to sell to inns or passing merchants.”

The old village chief skillfully moored the small boat at the small dock behind the inn.

Several cargo ships were moored next to the dock, and almost every ship had people on board to guard their cargo.

"Go up from here, turn around and you'll find the inn's main entrance."

Xu Ning got up and jumped onto the wooden bridge, reaching out to take Beidou from him.

"Grandpa, you go ahead with your work! Come over here when the sun is high in the sky, and Beidou and I will treat you to a meal. Um, if things don't work out, then it's your treat!"

"Haha, you..." The old village chief laughed as he rowed the boat away.

Xu Ning held Beidou's little hand and walked forward, taking in the layout of Wangshu Inn.

The main structure is in place, and the spiral staircase has been built.

However, the guest rooms above are not yet fully completed, so for the time being, the rooms below should be the main focus.

The two walked straight ahead and went up the steps.

A fair-skinned, brown-haired beauty is serving food to a table of guests.

He turned around and saw the two of them, and immediately greeted them with a smile.

"Please come in, please come in. Are you two guests here for a meal or to stay at the hotel?"

Before the two could answer, the brown-haired beauty called out to a skinny man who was secretly eating peanuts by the stove not far away, "Ah Wei, come and greet the guests!"

The skinny guy named Awei, whether he had suffered a bit or something, spat out two "pui" sounds.

He then sneered, "Boss lady, don't you even look closely? They're just two dirty little kids, what kind of customers are they!"

"Call me Boss!"

The brown-haired woman was furious. "Isn't a little brat a guest? Lazy and good-for-nothing, and can't even recognize a person's worth! Don't bother coming back tomorrow after you finish your work today. I could leave a cat there and it would be better at entertaining guests than you are!"

Skinny Ah Wei continued to sneer, his steps remaining completely still.

After serving the guests, the brown-haired beauty hurried over and asked with a friendly smile, "Are you two here for a meal or to stay at the hotel?"

Xu Ning smiled and said, "We're not really here to eat or stay; we just want to talk business with the owner of this inn."

The brown-haired beauty chuckled and said, "I really didn't expect you to be here to do business."

“I, Phil Gaudette, happen to be the owner here. So, what business do you want to discuss with me?”

Xu Ning cupped his hands in greeting and said, "My name is Xu Ning, and I'd like to discuss a business deal with the boss regarding alcoholic beverages."

Phil Gaudette's gaze swept over Xu Ning's wine gourd.

Their gaze lingered on that Eye of God for a few more seconds.

"Is the wine brewed by your family? That's quite unfortunate. My inn has a dedicated wine supply channel in Mondstadt, and we have all kinds of fine wines."

Xu Ning smiled upon hearing this tactful refusal.

"Boss, you're from Mondstadt, aren't you? To be honest, even Mondstadt's wine might not be as good as my homemade wine."

"Moreover, the wine made according to the tastes of Mondstadt people may not suit the tastes of us Liyue people!"

"If you also enjoy drinking, boss, why not try some of the drinks I brought? It's free!"

Phil Gaudette pursed her lips, clearly disagreeing with Xu Ning's words.

"Mondstadt is known as the 'Land of Wine' among the Seven Kingdoms! Well, I don't know anything about wine. If you really want to sell wine, you'll have to talk to my shopkeeper."

Xu Ning asked, "Where is your shopkeeper?"

Phil Gaudette looked up at the sky.

"I went to Shimen to pick up the goods a few days ago. Judging by the time, I should be back before noon. Please wait here for a while!"

Xu Ning nodded, "Then we'll wait a bit. Boss, you're busy, don't worry about us."

Phil Gaudette hurried off to greet the guests.

Sure enough, every table around there was occupied, indicating a thriving business.

Xu Ning looked around and saw a slightly chubby young man sitting at the table closest to the door. He kept glancing at a wooden cart by the roadside every few bites of his food.

It looks like his truck is parked over there.

Xu Ning grabbed Beidou's hand and walked straight toward the table.

"Is anyone sitting in this empty seat?" Xu Ning asked.

The man didn't turn his head. "There's no one else here, feel free to sit anywhere. If there are more people, that's fine too, I'll finish eating right away... uh..."

When the man turned around and saw Xu Ning and the other person, he was speechless.

These two kids... don't seem like people who would share a table for a meal.

Moreover, if everyone shares a table and sits down to eat and drink, it doesn't matter.

But if you're eating alone and there are two people sitting next to you staring at you, that would be awkward.

The man pushed his plate forward, revealing several steaming skewers of wild mushrooms and chicken. "Want some?"

Xu Ning remembered that they had left in a hurry this morning and hadn't eaten breakfast with Beidou, so he unceremoniously picked up a string of pearls and put it in Beidou's hand.

"Thank you then, but I can't just eat your food for free. Here, have a drink!"

Xu Ning pulled over a teacup and poured wine from the gourd.

The man was taken aback, then suddenly burst into laughter.

"Then I, Dahuang, will have taken advantage of you."

Dahuang reached out and picked up the bowl, took a sniff, and looked surprised.

"This wine tastes so good. Is it homemade? I've traveled all over the country for years and I've never smelled such delicious wine before."

Da Huang slowly took a sip, savoring the taste of the wine.

After a long pause, he lowered his voice and asked, "How much of this wine? Is it for sale?"

Xu Ning smiled slightly, "I'm here to sell wine to the innkeeper."

Big Yellow nodded and asked, "I'm on my way to deliver goods to Mondstadt and will be passing through here again in about ten days. Could you brew a few more jars and transport them here? Don't worry, the price will definitely satisfy you."

Xu Ning thought for a moment, then nodded in agreement.

Xu Ning and Bei Dou each ate two servings of wild mushroom and chicken skewers to fill their stomachs.

Then they heard Philgoldet's joyful voice.

"Shopkeeper, you're back!"

A tall, slender man, holding a slime balloon, slowly crossed the wooden bridge in front of the inn and tied the rope in his hand to the lamppost at the entrance.

This was the first time Xu Ning had ever seen such a peculiar mode of transportation, so he pulled Beidou over to watch the spectacle.

Above the slime balloon is a wooden cage containing a wind slime with small wings, which serves as the main power source.

Below are the hanging ropes and partitions used to place and secure the goods.

For traveling merchants carrying heavy goods, having this makes it as easy as taking a leisurely stroll to deliver their goods to their destination.

"Are all the building materials ready?" Phil Gaudette asked as she stepped forward.

The shopkeeper nodded. "Everything is here, everything is ready."

As the two were talking, the cargo beneath the slime balloon suddenly began to wriggle.

Then the waterproof tarpaulin covering it fell off, revealing a vicious man with his hands and feet bound and his mouth gagged.
