Otherworldly Companions: Every Handsome Man is Extraordinary
Chapter 34 Feast
As evening approached and darkness fell, the lord's manor was adorned in a magnificent golden light, a stark contrast to its usual tranquility. Even the garden was lit with golden lanterns, and strings of golden lights hung from the trees. Each small lantern was decorated with crystal beads carved with countless diamonds, casting shimmering light spots around it, making the entire courtyard exceptionally beautiful.
This was inspired by that little olive-green bird; Lin Yi would probably like such a flamboyant and golden decoration.
The courtyard near the castle was filled with huge flowerpots filled with seawater and fine sand, and patches of Hollandpur flowers were temporarily transplanted into them. Although they were not as brightly colored as they looked during the day, they had a hazy beauty under the shimmering lights of the courtyard at night.
Lanny was invited to attend the banquet tonight with his parents, but because of his age, he didn't walk with them. Instead, he walked with a member of another family, who was also his good friend. The banquet hadn't started yet, and the two of them strolled around in the courtyard.
"Wow, you know what, our lord really spends money like water! She's really devoted to her husband, Lin Yi. Look at this courtyard, it's so luxurious!" Lanny exclaimed to his companion.
"Sincerity is the most precious thing." It's truly enviable.
“I’ve never met General Lin Yi before, I’ve only met the Divine Envoy Fan Qingyin. I don’t know what kind of person General Lin Yi is that makes the lord care so much about him. If someone could treat me like this, I would be willing to give my life for her.” Lanny turned her head and looked at her friend who was staring wide-eyed at everything in the courtyard that looked like a dream. It was filled with the twinkling lights of the surrounding stars, as if the galaxy had been contained within it.
The boy's admiring tone seemed to be one of genuine envy, but then he said, "What am I daydreaming about? What kind of people are those two? How can I compare to them? Even if I stand on the mountaintop, I can only look up to them. It is said that they are among the best among the royal family's sons. Only people like them can be chosen by our lord as husbands."
"As far as I know, neither the Divine Envoy of Fan Qingyin nor General Lin Yi are ranked in the top two?" Lanny thought of the information he had previously gathered.
"Oh, I've heard that. I know that the Divine Envoy Fan Qingyin is ranked fourth, and as for General Lin Yi, he seems to be outside the top ten." The friend thought for a moment, "I wonder what the man ranked first is like."
"More than that, I'm concerned that it seems our lord... doesn't care so much about rankings and family background." The companion turned around in surprise, looking at Lanny, whose face suddenly showed a secret joy and tenderness. Something seemed to flash through his mind, but it was too fast for him to grasp. He could only suppress the faint unease in his heart and put his mind back on admiring the beautiful courtyard with its bright lights.
At the banquet, General Lin Yi, who had returned home on leave, left a very deep impression on everyone. The young general, with his dazzling blond hair, was as remarkable as his achievements and family background. Unlike typical officers who were stern and unsmiling, he always radiated a cheerful smile, attracting everyone's attention like a sun. Meanwhile, the divine messenger Fan Qingyin stood like the bright moon, flanking Lord Jiang Yu on either side.
Unlike the slightly aloof and distant Divine Envoy Fan Qingyin, General Lin Yi seemed to be able to chat with everyone. He was warm and polite to people, and did not act arrogantly because of his noble status. This made people understand why Lord Jiang Yu favored him so much. They were all equally kind.
Lin Yi saw through Jiang Yu's intentions, and his joy seemed to materialize, radiating happiness. Coupled with his sense that Fan Qingyin was avoiding him that evening, giving him and Jiang Yu time and space alone, his hostility towards Fan Qingyin lessened somewhat. When a person is happy, everyone seems agreeable, and he accepted every toast offered. The banquet proceeded smoothly, with singing and dancing to his heart's content, and quite a bit of wine consumed.
Banquets are the most tiring thing. Every time Jiang Yu finished a banquet, he felt sore and achy all over. It was a pity that this kind of activity was an indispensable way of socializing in high society.
The banquet only came to an end after all the carriages had left the manor. The hall was a mess, and the servants began to busy themselves cleaning. Jiang Yu rubbed her aching neck and back and drank a cup of tea to relieve her severe dizziness.
She drank quite a bit tonight, even though she only had some flower wine and fruit wine, she still drank too much. Now the aftereffects are kicking in, and it's really giving me a headache.
Jiang Yu glanced at her skirt. She had accidentally spilled a drink, leaving a stain on the hem. She lifted her skirt and then remembered to look for Lin Yi and Fan Qingyin.
Fan Qingyin was standing on the second-floor railing looking at her. The magnificent hall tonight didn't suit him at all. He stood alone in the distance, looking down at the chaotic hall, with a sense of detachment from the world.
Jiang Yu's eyes met his, and before she could even raise her hand to him, she saw him slightly tuck his chin in, smile, and nod gently at her before shifting his gaze elsewhere.
Jiang Yu followed Fan Qingyin's gaze to a sofa in the corner of the hall. A blond boy on the sofa had his eyes closed, his fair face flushed slightly from the smell of alcohol, and his lips were an unusually deep red, as if painted with lipstick. He lay back on the sofa like a delicate porcelain doll. Jiang Yu turned back to look at Fan Qingyin, only to find that the other had already turned and walked upstairs, leaving behind only a gentle yet aloof silhouette.
Jiang Yu sighed. Qingyin was... well, was she just too perceptive, or was she just heartbreakingly sensible? But since Qingyin had already hinted at this, she couldn't just do nothing. Jiang Yu greeted A'duo and the others, then went to the sofa and helped Lin Yi up, intending to take him back to his room.
Lin Yi felt someone supporting him, gently lifted his eyelids to look over, and saw that it was Jiang Yu. He smiled happily, and perhaps because he had been drinking, he even showed a bit of coquettishness. However, this coquettishness did not affect his youthful spirit. The two qualities intertwined and blended together, making him exceptionally charming.
