Rebirth of a Farmer's Dad

Chapter 62 Preliminary Preparations

Thanks to the concerted efforts of the police and H County government staff over the past few days, the hearts of the villagers in the surrounding area have finally been put at ease.

Luo Feng became famous in the county because of this incident. For the past few days, there's always a group of people in the shop who aren't there to eat; they're just there to join in the fun.

Luo Feng really didn't know what to say to them. He was just running a business, so why should he turn people away?

However, Luo Feng didn't have time to pay attention to them; he had too many things to do right now.

Now that we've decided to hold a matchmaking event, we can start preparing now.

The selection of the venue and the materials needed for setting it up can be left to Wang Dana and his team. You can come and inspect it yourself when the time comes.

As for event promotion, they obviously have no experience in this area, so they'll have to do it themselves.

It's quite simple. Luo Feng went to the police station and got the contact information of those reporters from a few days ago from Director Li.

Although televisions weren't widespread at that time, newspapers were still a good option. After all, there were still quite a few people who enjoyed reading books and newspapers.

Next, Luo Feng tried dialing the numbers of those reporters. Of course, he used the shop's landline; he didn't have a mobile phone yet.

After discussing it with the newspaper's editor-in-chief for a while, they agreed that he would go to the newspaper office in the neighboring county in the afternoon to take a look, and then the two sides would talk in detail.

Actually, Luo Feng didn't think it was that complicated. It was just placing an advertisement in the newspaper; the newspaper had done this before. As long as the money was paid in full and the matter was explained clearly, he believed there wouldn't be any major problems.

As Luo Feng had predicted, things were as simple as he had expected. In the afternoon, he spent a few hours resolving the advertising issue and also confirmed the date for the matchmaking event. July was almost over, so the date was set for the last day of July. Anyway, there were still more than half a month to go, so he had plenty of time to prepare.

After discussing things with the newspaper's editor-in-chief, Luo Feng prepared to return home. Before leaving, he entrusted the editor-in-chief to send two reporters to interview people on the day the matchmaking event began, and of course, to offer a few hundred-yuan bills as a token of his appreciation.

It's worth mentioning that, in order to increase the visibility of this matchmaking event, Luo Feng decided to bring in the county magistrate as well. As for the excuse, Luo Feng had already thought it through.

The villagers have been living in fear lately because of the series of cases. This is a good opportunity to let them have some fun, and as the county magistrate, I should share the joy with the people.

Originally, I planned to have my second son go back and tell his father about it, but then I thought it wasn't appropriate, and I had to do it myself.

And so, Luo Feng went to the county magistrate's house again, buying some gifts beforehand and taking Lao Er along. Anyway, Lao Er wasn't in any trouble right now, and the villagers hadn't recovered from the case a few days ago. Everyone was in a state of panic, and who would dare to go out on the street? Not to mention ordering takeout, even eating in restaurants had decreased significantly in the past few days.

Luo Feng was particular about his choices. He returned in the afternoon, so he went there after get off work on site.

After all, this wasn't a public matter; it was at most a personal request from Luo Feng, so it was best to discuss it privately. And since it was evening, he didn't want to disturb the county magistrate's rest, so he figured the afternoon would be the most suitable time.

When they arrived at the county magistrate's house, the magistrate was home. He looked like he had just gotten off work and was sitting on the sofa in the living room reading a newspaper.

"Hey kid, how come you still have time to come here?" the county magistrate asked Luo Feng jokingly.

"Uncle, look at what you're saying. Can't I come and sit here for a while if there's nothing wrong?" Luo Feng chuckled and handed over the gifts he had brought.

"You're here, why bring anything? Really!" the county magistrate's wife said reproachfully from the side.

"Auntie, it's been a long time since I've visited you. How can I not show my appreciation?" Luo Feng said to the county magistrate's wife with a smile.

"Hey, wait a minute, kid, what's going on? Explain yourself first." The county magistrate immediately tensed up. If this matter wasn't explained clearly and the higher-ups investigated, he wouldn't be in good shape.

"I just came to visit you all. These things are just a token of my appreciation; they're nothing valuable," Luo Feng waved his hand and hurriedly explained to County Magistrate H.

"Come on, I know you too well. Get to the point, or I'll have to see you out," the county magistrate said, glaring at Luo Feng.

"It's nothing, I just came to visit you two. I also wanted to let you know that I'm planning to hold a matchmaking event in the county soon, and I hope you'll come and join in the fun." Seeing that the county magistrate was about to ask him to leave, Luo Feng had no choice but to tell him everything.

"Huh? A matchmaking event? What's that for?" The county head didn't understand for a moment.

"Fengzi, your uncle and I won't go. We're both getting on in years, what's the point of going on blind dates?" The county magistrate's wife said somewhat embarrassedly, politely declining Luo Feng's request.

“Madam is right. Blind dates are a matter between you young couples; we older folks won’t interfere,” the county magistrate also voiced his objection. On this matter, he was clearly on his wife’s side.

"You're saying you have ulterior motives for organizing this matchmaking event? If it goes well, it'll benefit you too!" Luo Feng didn't want his plan to fall through, so he resorted to enticing words.

"Benefits? What benefits? Kid, make yourself clear. What benefits do I get from your matchmaking event?" The county magistrate immediately became interested and bombarded Luo Feng with a series of questions.

Luo Feng was prepared for this. He calmly repeated his prepared statement.

"Sharing joy with the people, is that really necessary?" The county magistrate remained unmoved after hearing Luo Feng's words.

It seems the bait wasn't enticing enough. There was no other way but to use a stronger remedy. Luo Feng gritted his teeth; he might as well make his reasoning clear today.

“Uncle, you see, a few days ago several major cases occurred in the county, which made the villagers very uneasy. Although you have done a lot of things to calm the villagers down these past few days, the results have not been very good.” Luo Feng finished speaking and looked at the county magistrate.

"That's right, the villagers are still worried about this. We even held a meeting today to discuss countermeasures, but unfortunately, no one has come up with any effective solutions," the county head said.

"Isn't this matchmaking event I'm organizing a perfect opportunity?" Luo Feng said, smiling as he looked at the county head.

"What do you mean?" The county magistrate seemed to understand something, but couldn't quite grasp it, so he could only cast a questioning look at Luo Feng and ask.

"Uncle, it's very simple. Think about it. As long as we make this matchmaking event a big success and everyone knows about it, it won't be long before people become interested in it. Then everyone on the streets will be talking about the matchmaking event, and who will have time to care about the case that happened a few days ago? Wouldn't that be just what you wanted?" Luo Feng said, winking at the county magistrate.

"That makes sense, that makes sense. You're quite a talent, kid." The county magistrate said, patting Luo Feng on the shoulder after listening.

"I don't deserve it, I don't deserve it," Luo Feng said modestly.

"You're using the government's influence to do your own thing, managing to do both without interfering with each other. That's quite a clever scheme," the county magistrate said, pointing at Luo Feng after a moment's thought.

"How could that be? I'm doing this for both personal and business purposes," Luo Feng said, touching his nose, a sign of his guilty conscience.

"Little fox," the county magistrate chuckled, waving his hand to indicate that Luo Feng could go back.

Luo Feng quickly got up to take his leave. Now that he had settled things with the county magistrate, he still needed to check on Wang Dana. He wondered how Wang Dana's preparations were going, and hoped he wouldn't interfere with his own business.
