Rebirth of a Farmer's Dad

Chapter 28 An Unexpected Encounter with Fellow Villagers

In the days that followed, everyone at Luo's continued to be busy as always. Before they knew it, it was almost the end of June, and the weather was gradually getting warmer. But everyone knew that even hotter days were yet to come.

This is good news for Luo Feng; the upcoming sweltering heat will bring a new wave of customers to the store. Also, the children should be on holiday soon, so shouldn't he make some popsicles, ice cream, and snacks to keep them entertained?

Luo Feng was once again lost in thoughts about the future. As for the matter of his second son, he had long since put it out of his mind.

It's not that Luo Feng is two-faced; this matter needs to be handled strategically. Rushing in might backfire.

Besides, Luo Feng didn't believe the county magistrate would turn a blind eye to his son's affairs. He had seen his second son's behavior these past few days and believed the county magistrate was well aware of it as well.

Luo Feng is a man of action; if he has an idea, he'll do it right away. Even if he's not buying anything today, he'll at least make a shopping list.

With this in mind, Luo Feng went shopping in the county. He originally planned to bring his daughter along, but Xinghua had to go to kindergarten, and everyone else was busy in the store, so no one had time to play around with him.

Just as Luo Feng was wandering around aimlessly out of sheer boredom, a voice suddenly rang in his ears.

"Brother Luo, Brother Luo!"

Looking in the direction of the sound, he saw Luo Laoquan and his family of three walking towards him in the distance, and it was Luo Tiezhu who had called out to him. The child was waving at him incessantly.

"Well, I guess I won't be able to stroll around the streets today," Luo Feng muttered to himself as he quickly walked forward.

"Brother Lao Quan, sister-in-law, shopping?" Luo Feng walked up to the couple and greeted them.

“No way, we don’t have time for that. We’re here to visit relatives,” Old Quan’s wife replied. Old Quan, standing to the side, simply smiled and nodded without saying a word.

He had always been rather timid and cowardly, so Luo Feng wasn't surprised.

"Zhu Zi, is it fun in the county?" Luo Feng turned to Zhu Zi and asked.

"It's so much fun, I don't want to go back," Zhu Zi said without hesitation.

Hearing his son's words, Lao Quan glared at him with displeasure.

"By the way, have you had breakfast?" Luo Feng asked.

"Not yet, we just arrived," said Lao Quan's wife.

"That's perfect, let's go back to my shop and have something to eat," Luo Feng invited.

"No, no, let's just find somewhere to eat something." Old Quan scratched his head a little embarrassedly.

"Don't worry, it's free," Luo Feng said with a smile.

Upon hearing this, Lao Shuan's wife perked up.

"Then I'll have to trouble you, Fengzi."

Luo Feng smiled and nodded, then led the family of three to his shop.

It was almost past breakfast time, and the shop wasn't too busy. Luo Feng found the three of them an empty seat and went to the kitchen to prepare some breakfast for them.

Having not seen the villagers for a long time, Luo Feng simply instructed Zhugan to take care of the business, while he sat down at a table with them and chatted over a meal.

The old couple at least ate in a more refined manner, but Tiezhu didn't care about such things. He grabbed a meat bun in one hand and a shumai in the other, stuffing them into his mouth endlessly.

Luo Feng watched Tie Zhu eat with a smile. Lao Shuan saw this and was about to speak, but Luo Feng stopped him.

"Brother Lao Quan, it's alright. It's a blessing for a child to be able to eat." Luo Feng said, handing Tie Zhu a bowl of soy milk and gesturing for him to eat slowly.

When Lao Quan heard Luo Feng say that, he stopped talking and just glared at his son.

"That brat, he never eats this much at home, I don't know what's wrong with him today," Old Quan's wife scolded her son.

"Sister-in-law, what are you saying? Haven't you heard the saying, 'A half-grown boy can eat his father out of house and home'? The child is still growing, he should eat more." Luo Feng chuckled.

Then, Luo Feng started chatting with them. The old couple envied the booming business of Luo Feng's shop, Tie Zhu envied Xing Hua who was in school, and Luo Feng praised the harmonious scene of their family.

As they chatted, the conversation turned to village affairs.

"Have you heard about what happened after the village's map was drawn up?" Old Shuan's wife asked, full of gossip.

"What's wrong with him?" Luo Feng asked, puzzled.

"To tell his story, we have to start with his spendthrift wife," Old Shuan's wife began to recount.

After a while, having understood the whole story, Luo Feng finally realized that this was how it happened.

Don't let Liu the butcher's big, burly appearance fool you; he's notorious in the village for being henpecked. You can often see an old woman chasing after this big, burly man all over the yard.

It's common for couples to bicker and argue; most people are used to it. But this time, Liu the butcher's wife really went too far.

His wife always complained that Liu the butcher was useless, and she would beat and scold him all day long. Everyone said that his wife was having an affair, but Liu the butcher didn't care. This made the villagers think that he was a coward and a spineless weakling.

Originally, everyone was just speculating about his wife's affair, but unexpectedly, she moved out and is now reportedly living with someone else.

Originally, he left pictures or went to her home in person, hoping to persuade his wife to go back. But unexpectedly, instead of bringing his wife home, he was scolded by others.

This immediately pushed Liu the butcher to his limit, and he started fighting with the man.

Unexpectedly, the man turned out to be a complete fool and was quickly knocked to the ground, breaking several of his ribs.

Although Butcher Liu felt relieved this time, he didn't get a good ending. Because the fight happened in front of someone else's house, he was beaten up by several men from the other village.

Two fists can't fight four hands, and he was naturally no match for the group. Needless to say, after being beaten, even the butcher was injured.

He thought that after all this commotion, his wife would come home with him. But to his surprise, she was only focused on taking care of the injured stranger and ignored Liu the butcher completely.

In no time, the story became a laughing stock in the village.

Looking at Lao Shuan's wife's gossipy expression, Luo Feng couldn't help but sigh, "It seems that no matter when, gossip is always a woman's prerogative. Long-tongued woman, long-tongued woman, that's a pretty good way to put it."

As for Liu the butcher's plight, Luo Feng could only express his sympathy. What can anyone say if a man can't even control his own wife?

Then, Luo Feng chatted with the couple about some other things.

In addition, Luo Feng also accepted Lao Shuan's request. Lao Shuan said that a relative of his was having a banquet in a nearby village and asked Luo Feng to go and help out.

As for the price, it will be calculated according to Luo Feng's previous pricing.

Although everyone is currently in the county, and this round trip wouldn't yield much profit at the previous prices, Luo Feng still readily agreed.

He wasn't thinking about profits, but rather about his shattered interpersonal relationships. These relationships definitely needed repairing; after all, everyone needs connections in life.
