After swapping bodies, I became a domineering CEO in a melodramatic novel.
Chapter 60 What do you hope to gain from this?
"Stop pretending, Qin Reng." She desperately wanted him to be honest about his feelings, so she took a deep breath and calmed herself down: "I know you're afraid that she might have some kind of conspiracy behind her."
"I just don't want to see her continue to be so smug." Qin Reng's voice rose slightly, seemingly revealing a hint of anxiety, before falling back down. "This isn't my problem."
Yu Yuetong bit her lip, a fire burning within her. She wanted to vehemently refute him, yet she didn't know what to say. At this moment, her relationship with Qin Reng was no longer that of a simple husband and wife; it was more like that of comrades-in-arms who had weathered storms together, only their battlefield was this complex game of the wealthy and powerful.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Yu Yuetong tried to move closer to Qin Reng, her eyes softening. "This will only make things worse."
"I don't need your advice." Qin Reng suddenly turned around, his gaze as sharp as a knife. "I don't want to become like you, only knowing how to compromise and adapt."
Yu Yuetong frowned, feeling a pang in her heart. She had thought they could face these difficulties together, but his cold defensiveness left her feeling utterly defeated.
“You’re running away.” Her voice was rough like sandpaper, but it carried a hint of courage. “We were all forced into this game, there’s no need to hurt each other anymore.”
The car pulled up near a quiet café, Qin Reng's expression unchanged. His eyes, like a cold undercurrent, blocked any words from his lips. Yu Yuetong had no choice but to look up at the window; the sunset painted the sky red, as if it were mourning her loss.
A few minutes later, Qin Reng suddenly said, "Let's go to the coffee shop. I want to know her background."
"You—" Before Yu Yuetong could react, Qin Reng's tone had already sealed the deal. He closed the car door and walked straight towards the coffee shop, his steps firm, like a loyal warrior, always ready to attack.
Yu Yuetong reluctantly followed, feeling that this was too risky, but she knew that once Qin Reng made up his mind, she couldn't stop him. She quickened her pace, keeping close behind him.
Pushing open the coffee shop door, a rich aroma of coffee wafted out, filling the air with a relaxed and warm atmosphere, yet it couldn't ease the tension in Yu Yuetong's heart. She tried hard to look for any potential threats, but she didn't see Ji Momo.
“She’s coming.” Qin Reng sat down abruptly, his hands clasped on the table, his expression grave. “I can’t let her torment us in the shadows any longer.”
Suddenly, the café door was pushed open, and Ji Momo walked in with her head held high. Even though she was wearing an elegant long dress, her aura still exuded a powerful sense of pressure, like a gorgeous venomous snake, ready to strike at any moment.
Yu Yuetong's heart sank suddenly. Her intuition told her that this meeting would definitely not be peaceful.
"Oh? What are you doing here?" Ji Momo had a half-smile on her lips, but her eyes were calm and composed, as if everything was under her control.
"Ji Momo." Yu Yuetong's voice was firm and resolute, trying her best to hide the trembling in her heart, "We have something we want to ask you."
Ji Momo slowly approached, casually toying with the scarf in her hand, her relaxed demeanor seemingly proclaiming her victory. "Ask away, I'd be happy to answer."
Qin Reng remained silent, but his face was filled with intense anger. Yu Yuetong's heart raced; the atmosphere around them seemed to freeze, each heartbeat amplified, urgently foreshadowing the impending conflict.
She was secretly on guard; this confrontation had only just begun.
“I hope you can be honest.” Yu Yuetong’s voice carried a hint of firmness, “because what’s coming next is something you probably don’t want to face.”
Yu Yuetong's heartbeat was exceptionally clear in the coffee shop. Her body was tense, and she found it difficult to sit comfortably opposite Qin Reng. She knew that this confrontation would not be easy, especially with that supporting female character, Ji Momo.
"You came really fast." Yu Yuetong forced a smile, trying to hide her nervousness.
"If you don't want to talk, you can leave," Qin Reng replied coldly, his eyes devoid of warmth, as if to say, "I don't need your pale comfort."
Ji Momo sat down calmly with a hint of mockery, chuckling, "I thought you would run even further. After all, I'm quite a troublesome presence." As she spoke, an invisible pressure surged around them, as if the air itself had thickened.
"What do you want?" Qin Reng's voice carried a hint of anger; he didn't want to be led by the nose by her anymore. His fingers tapped lightly on the table, as if he were trying to bolster his own courage.
Ji Momo raised an eyebrow slightly, picked up her coffee cup with amusement, and secretly observed Qin Reng. "I want to know how you plan to face me. After all, the truth is something none of you want to face."
Yu Yuetong felt a sense of unease and wanted to break the deadlock. She turned her head closer to Qin Reng and whispered, "We can't let her lead us and let her control the situation."
"Really?" Ji Momo sneered, her gaze sharp as a knife. "But I'm the one initiating this conversation. Do you really think you can fool me with those little tricks?"
"Don't overestimate yourself." Qin Reng's tone turned cold, his demeanor nonchalant, his gaze as firm as a rock. "I don't trust you."
"Then why do you think I'll trust you?" Ji Momo scoffed, her fingers gently swirling the glass. "I know exactly what you're thinking, and I understand you've never respected me, but that doesn't matter. There's absolutely no reason for us to trust each other."
Yu Yuetong's mind was in turmoil. She tried to break the silence, gripping her coffee cup tightly, her expression incredibly serious. "Ji Momo, there's really no need for us to be hostile towards each other. We can solve problems in other ways, why do we always have to attack each other?"
"Interesting." Ji Momo smiled teasingly, adopting a skeptical stance. "Hearing you say that, I find it rather ridiculous that you're defending your choice." She asked with feigned concern, "Do you think there's any room for maneuver in your situation?"
"Don't get carried away." Qin Reng interrupted her disdainful laughter, his lips pressed tightly together, his eyes piercing like sharp swords. "You've misunderstood. Reality is far more complicated than you imagine." His expression was focused, and the coldness on his face made people afraid to get close.
Ji Momo fell silent this time, seemingly deep in thought, but a strange calculation flickered in her eyes. "It seems our cooperation is necessary; after all, I'm always fair."
Yu Yuetong was momentarily stunned, then felt a strong sense of crisis wash over her. She found a starting point and forcefully dispelled her unease. "What's your bottom line for this cooperation? What do you hope to gain from it?"
